Being a lazy kind of sort, I often get takeaways, and Tropical Curryland is one of the better ones in Brighton. Mixing Indian and other Oriental cuisines, nearly everything is available here for cheap, affordable prices, and the quality isn’t skimped on either. It isn’t amazing food or anything: it’s still take-away, it just isn’t as bad as take-away can often be. Of all the takeaways in Brighton, Tropical Curryland manages to stand apart for a variety of reasons. Most importantly, the food on offer is made to a higher standard than most take-aways in the area, and the food on offer is more than just your basic Indian or Chinese. By combining food from all over the Eastern world, Tropical Curryland offers a variety of different dishes from different countries, meaning you can combine all of your favourite dishes from all over the world. Not necessarily the most refined culinary idea in the world, but there’s nothing wrong with a bit of mix-and-match, especially when it comes to take-away food. As take-aways go, there’s really little to complain about at Tropical Curryland: sure, it’s a little dingy, and the mixing of different foods is a little gauche, but who cares, it’s flipping take-away. It least it tastes of more than one or two flavours!

Brightonians aren’t short for options and variety of most things. Cafes, pubs, clubs and curry houses all come under the umbrella of a heavily saturated market. And in these markets you’ll have your own personal favourites regardless of price or quality. Tropical Curryland happens to be one of mine. It has extremely good value for money and I haven’t been disappointed once. Hearty portions at acceptable cost. The Tropical Chef Supreme is a dish to keep coming back to. Chicken Tikka and Lamb with Kind Prawn Kebabs and egg in a spicy sauce all for £9.95, and comes with rice and popadoms.

One of the best Indian takeaways in Brighton. They serve all the standard Indian fare here — there’s nothing on the menu that will surprise. However, the quality of the food is excellent — good ingredients that are tasty and well cooked. I advise trying the Dansak here — always a favourite of mine but it’s particularly good at this place. Staff are generally friendly and smiley too.

It’s hard to fault Tropical Curryland. They do cracking curries(I favour a Chicken Dhansak) with breast meat as standard. The onion bhajis are great and the poppadoms and naan breads are as fine as you’ll find. In fact poppadoms are free! Free onion salads take the edge off and, moreover, Tropical Curryland are swift. Tropical Curryland, unlike some Brighton curry houses, also take card payments without quibbling
