Oh, I love this pub. Laid back 50s lounge and jazz, prosecco with a dash of Esprit de Juin, truly kid– and dog-friendly, and one heck of an adventurous, locally-sourced, regularly changing menu that changes according to what’s caught the chef’s fancy in the market that morning and has on one occasion included twice-cooked mutton with capers that was quite simply the best meal I have ever eaten. Go! And BTW the other reviews are old — this is under new ownership and is most emphatically not a sports bar…

I love this pub we have only ever been for Sunday roasts but each time we have been we love it. Very cosy, the review before talks about it being a sports bar but the pool table is at the back of the pub and at the front of the pub is just so lovely and cosy it never has effected us and to be honest the first time I went I did not even know there was a pool table. Well we have taken both sets of parents who also thought the food was fantastic and we have just booked for christmas with friends. Defiantly worth a visit for a nice relaxed Sunday lunch.

The portrait of the queen regnant and empress of India hanging outside this pub hints at traditional values, a barman who knows the name of all the regulars, a blue narcotic haze hovering over the snug the sort of pub that George Orwell described as offering draught stout, open fires, cheap meals, a garden, motherly barmaids and no radio. Once inside, the illusion is shattered. It’s a sports bar with a good pool table, racing on the television and a predicable selection of beer.

There is some rather loud music being played in this pub. Almost too loud. I’m accustomed to loud noises and have been to some pretty rowdy pubs in my life, but this was a tad too much. Perhaps it had to do with the small customer turnout, and there not being enough people to even out the music. I was told that The Queen Victoria holds music nights every… Wednesday I believe it was. You will be able to sing your favorite tunes while enjoying a decent beer, and snacking on olives. All in all, it was a very middling experience, which reflected at the table. I went with a few people from my apartment building, and it was mostly silent. We were hoping that something would happen(like more customers filtering into the pub) to settle the conversational awkwardness, but no go. We all just sat still, drank our beers, while loud music played in the background.
