We came in the Monty for a late pint after dinner and met with a friend here. Thankfully it wasn’t too busy but still had a small crowd. The service was very friendly and personable. The barmaid especially was lovely — even brought a top up to our table. Definitely visit the Monty when you’re in the area!

A venerable old boozer in the heart of Brighton known for its friendly locals and sport. Inside, it’s wonderfully traditional with swirly carpets and nothing too trendy. They have big screens for major sporting fixtures as well as a darts board. Outside there is a small smoking patio for those who want that and there is a good selection of real ale inclusing Harvey’s. It’s also on the cheaper side for pubs in Brighton and Mike the landlord will doubtless welcome you warmly.

Just a stone’s throw from Brighton’s main shopping street, Western Road, you’ll find the Montpelier.(A note on pronunciation. In Brighton Montpelier isn’t said in the French style. Go for Mont-PEEL-ee-ur.) It’s an honest local with a traditional vibe. There’s a long bar, plenty of buzz and usually some locals bantering at the jump. You can quaff a pint of Harvey’s, they do various other ales and lager fizz too. It’s a blokes’ pub. There’s often a game of darts underway and the talk is often of sport. They’ve got a big telly that’s always showing the latest live fixture, so it’s a lively(if serious) place to catch a World Cup match. If you don’t fancy the sport, you can sit outside and watch the world go but. By the road, it’s not the most picturesque spot. But it’s a nice feature of this veru normal, decent pub. Top tip. I usually pop into the Montpelier when I’ve ordered a pizza from La Cucina a few doors down. I’ll have a quick pint while they cook it!

The Baptist church use to be situated further down the road. It had to move due to a compulsory purchase order by the council so that they could build things like a carpark! This building is nothing special. In fact it looks very unchurch like from the outside. Inside its like a village Hall. But, if you attend the services here I bet its a lovely little community.
