I’m not even sure why I came here — I don’t really eat Macdonald’s at all, haven’t had one in at least a year! I was super hungry and this was the first place I spotted — it’s had a refurb so I thought I’d have a little nosey around. First thing I noticed, there is a lot less seating downstairs than before. Maybe this is because less people are eating at Maccy D’s these days? Secondly, and this is a big one — you don’t get served by a human any more! You have to go to this massive touchscreen device, select the food that you want and pay for it at the machine. It then dispenses a ticket with a number on it which you then hand over when your number is called.(It’s like Argos but for food). I guess it’s just another business that has had human interaction taken away from it. Less jobs for people, worse customer service. By the way, my cheeseburger was poorer than average, and my fries were stone cold.(No change there then!)

I was so happy when I saw that the 20 chicken mcnuggets sharebox was only £4.29, whereas back in France, it is about £8. What a deception ! To be honest they were really bad, tasteless and the lady only gave me 2 bbq sauce… I thought they were all the same around the world :/ Well, I guess I’ll have to pay more and have one of those in France.

I would give McDonalds only one star– for their sugar and salt filled burgers, their unethical work practices, and in the U.S., their huge sizes. I do grudgingly have to admit though that they have made an effort to update their design, their menu and their ethics. When I went in on the weekend, to get my dad a milkshake, I was amazed at how the dark greens made it look more sophisticated, and by their new café area with cakes and coffee. An improvement-their labour practices are still dodgy and their burgers are still not to up to much. The shake was pretty nice though, thanks dad.

In the not so distant past there existed a restaurant loved and frequented by millions throughout the world, perceived globally as a fun and acceptable place to take your children for a treat. Then, unfortunately, as it so often does, society had to come along and ruin it all. Children started enlarging to sizes far greater than nature intended, and, rather than blaming the individuals directly responsible for this consequence, the parents who allowed their kids to greedily devour meal after meal on a regular basis, society pointed her fingers at the innocent bystanders who offered fast food for those who so desired it, and suddenly, our nice, friendly restaurant chain become seen as a symbol of the degradation of modern society, a place which only the dregs of society would frequent. This place, this charming restaurant community, was Mcdonalds, a venue which I always looked forward to visiting when I was younger, during the rare moments my parents treated me with such a pleasure. They were enjoyable experiences, ones I remember fondly, and ones which did not result in myself becoming obese. Yet, sadly, because of the individuals who were greedy and stupid enough to gorge upon Mcdonalds meal after Mcdonalds meal, until they grew to the size of houses, and required their own post codes, I am no longer supposed to be able to see past the negative image of Mcdonalds, forced upon me by the media and wider society, who stigmatize it as a pariah. Personally, I have never grown to the size of a small cottage in the South of Devon, never become stricken with diabetes, and never necessitated the formation of hundreds of weight loss clubs around the country. However, I have always enjoyed the food served at Mcdonalds, and always experienced good, fast service. The Mcdonalds on Western Road is no exception to this rule. I headed on in there, ordered my food, and found myself eating it within five minutes. My meal was tasty, the coke was refreshing, and I left feeling satisfied. What more could a person want? Whether or not excessive consumption of their products causes health problems, whether or not Mcdonalds as a global brand is no longer fashionable, and whether or not the company engages in unethical practices, the actual service they provide in the industry they are involved is very good, and, regardless of whether it is completely uncool to say it, Mcdonalds, this one included, excels at what it does.

This is the transcript of a recent conversation I had with myself: — «I’m lovin’ it!» — «Lovin’ what?» — «Lovin’ the fact that McDonalds now offers free WiFi!» — «Free Wifi?!» — «Hell yeah!» A Big Mac, large fries and a side order of Facebook will do me nicely!

What is there to say about McDonalds that hasn’t already been said ? This branch is large and clean — but they are the only plus points. Go in during the weekend and it’s full to the brim with whining children and equally whining parents. Go in during the week and it’s just full of winos. Food is undercooked and undernourishing. Avoid this place like the plague !
