I was really surprised by this place. It looks a bit like someones front room — albeit a cosy one. But guess what? The food was really nice! I went for an anniversary dinner — no pressure! — and we both really enjoyed it. Our salads were light and tasty, and wonderfully dressed. Mains were, again, surprisingly good, especially as it appeared the chef was also the waiter, barman, and possibly bottle washer as well! My grouse was light, yet crisp, and the mash potato was among the best I’ve had. My husband’s steak was cooked exactly to his liking and came with surprisingly tasty home made chips. The cheese board was varied, with a wonderful selection of strong and lighter flavours. And my panetone bread and butter pudding with home made chocolate ice cream was absolutely divine! I got the impression it could be a different story if the restaurant was booked to capacity, and it could very well feel too crowded at such a time but, for me, an eccentric treasure.

This is a lovely Kemp Town restaurant serves high quality Modern European cuisine and I highly recommend checking it out if you’re a foodie. The quality of the ingredients and presentation is outstanding and it doesn’t need to cost the earth, with a £15, 3 course set menu on offer. The interior is simple yet cosy and relaxed: white table cloths, wooden flooring and fresh yellow walls are unintrosive and make the emphasis the quality of the food and discreet service. The menu changes according to seasonal produce and includes a lot of Latin favourites. My starter was artichoke heart, tomato and pine nut salad with a chardonnay vinaigrette. Delicious. My main was Roast Guinea fowl in a red wine shallot and mushroom jus on mashed potatoes. Outstanding and surprisingly tender(hard to do by the way). Dessert was a banana flambeed with brandy. You just can’t go wrong with that.

Before I went broke, I decided to try something of high quality(and not something that had fish and/or chips in it). Due to me eating only a couple of hot crossed buns in the morning, and me losing my sense of direction, when I saw La Marinade Restaurant and saw that it served European Cuisine, my hunger and desire to upscale my meal for one lunch made me walk in. Everything is of high quality, and the atmosphere is certainly calm and serene. The neighborhood wasn’t crowded, and this was reflected inside, where it was me and one couple sitting a few tables away. We shared a pleasant silence and indulged in a very pleasant meal. A good place to go if you’re looking for something of high quality, without the high quality price.

Rather eccentric little restaurant in Kemp Town. The food is adventurous, comforting and generous. Unfortunately they have a severe ventilation problem, and added to the fact that practically everything is vigorously pan-fried, you end up stinking of oily kitchen fumes. Not a good thing! But it’s good value. I asked the chef to cook whatever he wanted for me, and he made real comfort food — boned rabbit pieces in a rich sauce with potatoes and chorizo. There’s a Mediterranean inspiration here which is very enjoyable. The service is chaotic but well-meaning.

Just off the seafront and in a more residential part of the city but well worth the visit. Really good menu and not expensive. You can dine for around £15 to £20 and the food is great.
