I couldn’t think of anything more suitable for my 100th Unilocal review than my most favourite bar in Brighton. Valentino’s is hidden away in New Road, it’s the kind of place that you don’t stumble on by accident but instead have to be introduced to. But once discovered you won’t be able to stay away. The only downside is that it’s quite small(I really shouldn’t be encouraging you all to go there!), but they are quite sensible with their door policy and only let a set number of people in to prevent overcrowding. Great idea, but infuriating when you are the one left out in the cold! The bar staff are really friendly, and are always happy to make suggestions if you can’t decide from the huge menu. They will even invent something special for you if you tell them what you like. My particular favourites are Bonzo Dog and the Dark and Stormy, but stay away from the Shakin’ Stevens! There is a lovely balcony out the front, great for the smokers but also for the rest of us to take in the beautiful views of Pavilion Gardens and to people watch in the street below. The cocktails are a little pricey but of such a good quality you don’t mind paying the price, especially if you can get a couple in during happy hour early evening. There is nowhere else in Brighton that even competes when it comes to top quality cocktails, but please don’t all rush there at once, I’ll be very sad if I can no longer get it!
