There aren’t too many things that can tempt people to London Road, but this tiniest of Thai restaurant’s might be a good enough excuse. When I say Bangkok Express is tiny, this really isn’t an exaggeration. There are probably 5 tables in this bedroom sized restaurant. If you find yourself on one of the window facing tables, you’ll probably actually feel like you’re sat on London Road. The staff are very accommodating though, so don’t worry about the risk of not getting a table . In all seriousness, the intimate settings don’t do detract from efficient service, and more importantly, the very good food. The menu is very reasonably priced and all looks very good. This is definitely a rough diamond.

A tiny shop front Thai restaurant, Bangkok Express has the authentic tastes and spices of Thailand-especially the spices. Naturally the staff are adorable and friendly, and their extensive menus boasts of the favourites and more– I had the delicious Tom Khan Soup and the extremely spice Som Tam green salad. The exterior is deceptive, but it’s unfair to prejudge a place like this when it’s the food that really counts and this food is worth counting.

My favourite Thai restaurant! Cheap and authentic, what else can you ask for. Recommend getting a takeaway!

For two years living in the London Rd area, I overlooked this place, purely because of its location. For some reason I tend to be suspicious of takeaways that are too close to home– it’s a twisted self-punishing philosophy that has me believing that I must make a massive effort if I want tasty food. This is England, we don’t have nice affordable food on our doorsteps, do we?! Well I can now dispel this myth, as I have found the best Thai takeaway in town, right under my very nose! Delicious prawn toast, tom khan soup, pad Thai and spicy beef salad were among the orders from my flat this past weekend. The tom khan soup was literally the best I’ve ever tasted, it was just so lemongrassy… and it really helped to warm my cockles on a cold Autumn eve! The menu is vast with all the usual curries and noodles as well as more unusual fish and meat dishes. Prices are average. Now that I’ve started paying attention, this place is packed every time I walk past. It is not the loveliest of restaurants. Still, I am a fool for ignoring it for so long. Highly recommended.
