Since the re layout of slims, I’ve found myself going here less and less. I would have taken away shakes and sometimes food from here as it was easily accessed and was clearly segregated from those sitting in, there was also a space area for those to wait if there was a queue for sitting in. Now it’s seems like those taking away or waiting to be seated are crammed together, and doesn’t seem as welcoming as before. If I’m going there I feel like I have to sit in. The food and drinks are nice, particularly the roasted pan seabass, so give it a go if you have never been before. Although it would be nice for a health kitchen to have a calorie breakdown of their foods.

This place didn’t appeal to me I been but I saw menu and nothing on there took my fancy at all. I mean what’s grass fed Steak??? The cow eats the grass then is killed and made into steak or is the steak taken to a piece of grass rolled in it and then cooked??? I’m thin enough I don’t need to lose weight so I don’t see the point of me going to eat healthy I’ve been tiny all my life so I think i will stick to a massive roast dinner, chips and burgers etc. May appeal to others but sorry not me.

I really enjoyed my meal in Slims, a fantastic Nicoise Salad with tuna which was lovely if a wee bit overcooked for my liking. The whole menu is really tempting and it’s the kind of place where you want to try everything from the really interesting sides to the amazing array of juices and smoothies. Definitely my kind of place with a nice buzz, friendly staff — just a good place to go when you want to be a bit healthier but still have a real treat.

So I’m going vegan for November, most sources will tell you that a plant based diet is healthier than a meat inclusive diet. I think someone needs to pass this on to Slims. My partner, being all lovely and supportive, decided to treat me to a meal out and he figured this would be a good place to go. As far as vegan options go, the menu was woefully lacking. It seemed more focussed on things like ‘Less than 500 calories’ or ‘High in Protein’ options. In the end I went for the falafel and beetroot burger served on top(Yeah I know, for some reason not in) a pitta bread. This normally comes with a cheese topping and a yoghurt and herb dip both which I had to omit. And I have to say I didn’t enjoy the burger. It was too thick so it had a VERY raw plant taste and it was bunged with huge bits of chilli which added very little but to try and disguise the flavour. Also the dishes are just small enough to need a side so make sure you take that into account too. The chips were amazing, but that could be because its the only part of the food I really enjoyed. The décor, while there was the odd nice piece had an overall feel of crossing a kids playground with a school cafeteria. The tables were too close together and the service was a bit lacklustre. Overall there are much nicer places to eat healthy in Belfast. This one feels like its been thrown together with a menu based on a George Forman grill cookbook and for me wasn’t a pleasant experience I’ll be rushing back to. I’d say add one star to this review if you are a meat eater.

Slims really filled a gap in the Belfast market for somewhere that gave healthy options for eating out. Love the wraps and salads very filling and tasty. However service has been questionable once or twice– not being rude I understand they are always packed and therefore very under demand. Pretty good food and I particularly like them putting the protein/fat/superfoods points on the menu for those who really are watching what they eat. Would like to see calories for each meal if that’s possible! Nice all round.

I am vegan for April, and its working out great, but its really hard to find places to eat out that have vegan options. Slims shakes are famous of their vegetable and fruit juice mixes that they dont add anything else but the actual real fresh fruit and vegetable to. I ordered a Superfood salad with no cheese which came in a good-sized bowl and looked super appetising! I asked for tomatoes instead of cheese that they havent charged any extra for, and the food came really quick as well. Unfortunately i didnt get the name of our waitress, but she was really friendly and helpful. I can definitely recommended Slims to anybody, vegan or not, everything is fresh and beautifully served. Thank you girls from Slims who served us today! It was delicious and the service was lovely!

After putting on more weight than I care to share over Christmas, a friend and I decided to give Slims a try avoiding the bun-fest we usually go for of a morning. Advertising itself as a sort of slimmers café(in my view anyway) I was surprised at the menu, which seemed to be pretty much like any non-health café with burgers and breakfasts and the like, but as motivation was high I went for a warm goats cheese salad and a juice. Despite asking for no nuts, out it came avec nuts none the less(picky me, though allergies are a common problem), but it was pretty tasty. My friend thought her flatbread was a little small for the money when it came out, but by the end she had eaten her words, describing it as ‘utterly delicious’ and ‘worth a repeat’. The highlight for me was the juice, a hearty mix of beetroot, celery, chilli and apple. Some places claim to give you fresh juice which is in reality a couple of bottles mixed in the glass, but Slims is the real deal. We’ll be back health kick or not, as with juices like that, there is nothing wrong with a burger…

Slims has filled a hole in Belfast and it’s also probably filled a hole in many Belfast bellies. The concept of Slims is quite simple — they aim to create fast food without it being unhealthy. If you’re in to burning calories or building muscle in the gym then you will love Slims. Their menu is full of ‘super foods’(try the Avocado salad) that not only taste great but also have nutritional value. Sometimes with health food cafes you find they lack variety but Slims is the complete opposite — I went in for lunch and struggled to pick from the menu that consisted of wraps, salads, burgers, grilled delights and stir frys. Slims lunch menu is also reasonably priced with most dishes under £10. If you want to get your 5 a day in one hit I suggest you pop in and try Slims Froyos. There’s a cool quirky vibe about Slims — it feels like the owners are on a mission to sculpt Belfast’s bloated beer belly in to a solid six pack.
