Anne & Max

When walking past Anne & Max on a weekend afternoon, it is clear that this hybrid between a coffee bar and a lunch place is a local’s favorite; the place is almost always jam-​packed. Anne & Max is a nice place to sit down for coffee, since it serves a decent brew and has plenty of sweet options to stuff your tummy while drinking. If you feel more like lunch, there’s plenty to choose from as well; many creative dishes are available, but their execution is nothing too exciting. All in all, Anne & Max is a cute place to visit with a friend, since ‘decent’ is the name of the game. Though you should not expect any culinary masterpieces, you’re sure to find something that suits your tastes.

An unassuming place with free wifi and fresh, delicious food at reasonable prices. Full of locals chatting and eating with their dogs politely curled up at their feet. I really did enjoy this place. No english menu available but the staff answered our questions.
Some recommended specials:
-«Zoete Morgen» came with freshly squeezed juice, choice of coffee or tea, a croissant, warm flax-​seed scone, clotted cream (so good), strawberry jam, and plain yogurt topped with a fruit salad.
-«Een goed begin» came with freshly squeezed juice, choice of coffee or tea, two pieces of brown bread, butter, and baked eggs with bacon and leeks underneath.
-«Superclub» a layered chicken club sandwich with bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado, arugula and I believe chopped egg.
They also offer high tea, which I would have liked to have tried. Judging by how good their clotted cream and scones are, I’m sure it’s wonderful.
Everything was absolutely delicious and we loved it so much we came back again the very next day. The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is that the service, while perfectly adequate, wasn’t particularly friendly or welcoming on both occasions. Still, great place, great food, highly recommend and would gladly return.

Our favorite place for either weekend lunch or afternoon coffee.
Their food is very good, sandwiches and salads. Fair trade and organic ingredients, it all tastes very good. In the summer the outdoor seats are preferred. Coffee is great and the desserts are tasty, I recommend the white chocolate cake.

Really great place for relaxing, watching passersby and great expresso. Free wifi and great service. Close by to everything in central Leiden. Will go again!
