Nice taste and service! 5-course for 60 euro/p. It is even wonderful that i bought a groupon 90 euro for 3 persons. Couldn’t say any negative words.

My boyfriend took me out to dinner here last night. And, it was a great experience. The interior and feel was comfortable with class but not stuffy. We were heading to a Snoop Dogg concert after so you can imagine how casual we were. Anyway, restaurants that offer high quality dining and experience without the pretentiousness are my favorite. Anyway, vibe is nice and comfortable. Impressive and clean. We opted for the 4-course meal with wine pairings(of course!). I was immediately asked if I had religious or dietary restrictions, which I do. I don’t eat meat or fish. No problem for them whatsoever. At our table was fresh bread, fresh butter from the UK and fresh salt, served with an appertif. The food was all very, very delicious. The tom kha kai that my boyfriend had for an amuse was the only dish that was lacking. Everything else was rich in flavor, beautiful in presentation and absolutely perfect in serving size. Another Unilocaler here complained that her dinner took a few hours. That’s typically the way these kinds of restaurants go — and thank goodness! For a meal like this, it’s about the food, it’s about a savory, decadent experience and it’s about stopping for a while, together, with whomever you are, and enjoying the slow pace of a beautiful moment. We had to(very unfortunately) rush through our dessert(cheese cake and a cheese platter) to get to Snoop. But, I’d have happily sat for another hour and a half with that beautiful man in that beautiful restaurant. Dinner for two: 200 euros. Bottom line: they’re doing all of it right. If you go here, save yourself a few hours and really enjoy all senses. Eet smakelijk!

We came here during Restaurant Week and was super excited about the prospect of delicious seasonal food, but we were super disappointed with the meal. I’m not sure what the other reviewers are getting but I would not recommend this place at all. Maybe if I had gotten the wine pairing, I would have been more drunk and less likely to notice the lack of seasoning in my food. Food: 3⁄5 We had a 3 course meal, and it started off good with 2 amuses: corn/potato cake topped with chutney and cauliflower soup. However, the starter and main course were terrible. For starters, we had a ham served with pickled vegetables and a fish cake served on top of sauerkraut. Both dishes were flavorless and the components did not work together. It was almost disgusting to eat. For the main courses, we had a baked halibut and lamb served 3 ways. Again, the food was flavorless and the portions were tiny(I think our starters were bigger in size…). We also had like a dish between the starter and main course, and this was seared scallops served with an avocado mousse. I found this to be fairly tasty and it was nicely seared scallops simply done, nothing amazing but it was a very welcomed tasty dish. Dessert is where they managed to redeem themselves a bit. Since we were waiting so long for our dessert, they actually gave us a bonus dessert of churros served with cream of mascorpone. The presentation was super clever as they served it to look like pommes frites with a side of mayo. This was very tasty(but then again, when are churros not tasty??). Our dessert was also good, it was an chocolate mousse served with candied pineapple and a yogurt sorbet. The mousse was light and fluffy and was complemented nicely by the other 2 items. Overall, it was a very sad and disappointing meal because starter and main course were bland. Service: 2⁄5 The waiters are very attentive at times, but the time between dishes is ridiculously long. I understand slow Dutch service, but I should not have to wait 40 minutes for dessert. Our meal took almost 4 hours and when we were leaving, another couple had to wait 15 minutes for their coats(from coat check). Atmosphere: 4⁄5 It is an upscale place and the clientele are nicely dressed. There is a lovely view by the water and they have huge windows to look out of. It definitely felt like a place to go for a special occasion and they have a super extensive wine collection. Value: 1⁄5 For ~40ish euros per person this was a terrible value. I was still hungry afterwards and was eyeing the Febo across the water. Overall it was just so disappointing, the food was bland, the wait was ridiculous and I left so hungry.

Imagine you are in Holland, don’t speak the language, can’t eat dairy, and have high requirements for food. Yes, bad scenario, but a happy ending. We popped in to this restaurant because it was nearby. I noted no dairy to our server and he said no problem. We chanced it with the four course menu with matching wines, and… everything was perfect. Before our meal, we sat out with a drink watching the sun set as the sailboats and rowers went by and then we had perfect service and a perfect meal, with appropriate wines. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. :)

Wonderful place with an interesting fusion menu. Food is wholesome & organic and exciting and new. Beautiful wines to accompany every dish. My taste buds are crying for more. I eat gluten free & they made special bread & pastries for me so I could participate in all parts of the menu. Excellent food, excellent service!

This was my last meal on my most recent visit to Amsterdam and it was a perfect ending to a food-filled trip. My friend and I chose this place because it was within walking distance of his place and it was actually open on a Monday night, which is apparently many restaurants night off. At first the service was typically Dutch(read: slow); we let the staff know that we both had an early morning and requested that they pick up the pace a bit, which they did… sort of. We opted for the four-course menu. I started with the cold appetizer of the day, which was foie gras with prosciutto, and it was excellent and quite a large portion as well. Next up was scallops with leak, curry and coconut milk, grilled venison and finally the dessert of the day. I don’t remember much about the dessert other than the pear which was cut in half, one side soaked in white wine, the other in red, it was very fun and super good! All in all VandeMarkt was great, it would likely have a Michelin star if it were in the US. I will likely return on a future trip.
