Was in Amsterdam alone on business and decided to eat here once again… The friendly staff greeted me as I walked in and sat me close to the bar area.: beautiful and massive chandeliers light up the restaurant just enough and the table candles make it a nice spot for a couple — Had the days special 3 course set menu — started with the venison pâté — I am not a pâté fan but it was delicious ! Then followed by the duck breast and again super delicious — good portion size and great tasting veggies Finished off with a nice light desert !

Great food and service. Best meal I had while in the city. Incredible flavor and attention to detail on the plate. Both my wife and myself loved it and the service was attentive. Not stuffy what so ever in this beautiful 17th century building… like most on the street. Our hotel recommended and made our reservation… so thankful they led us to Van Speyk!!!

Great friendly service. We got the scallops and the soup to start. They were good. We got the duck confit which was crispy outside but very dry inside. We ordered the steak medium rare. could have been better seasoned. Crime brûlée was fine. For €€€ I would expect a bit more on the entrées

Hier sind wir auch durch eine nette Empfehlung einer Unilocalerin gelandet. Lustigerweise habe ich dann später auch in einem Magazin gelesen, dass es hier mitunter die besten Muscheln der Stadt geben soll. Wir haben für Freitag reserviert und als wir ankamen war das Lokal auch schon fast voll. Wir bekamen einen kleiner 2er Tisch. Man sollte nix Persönliches besprechen wollen, weil der Tischnachbar sehr nah dran sitzt:) Ich hatte ein Beef Tatar und anschließend die Muscheln. Man kann sich hier nicht aussuchen wie die Muscheln gemacht werden — es gibt nur die eine Art, die Art des Hauses! Das Tatar war lecker abgeschmeckt und reichlich(13 Euro), die Muscheln waren ebenfalls reichlich und lecker(22 Euro). Dazu gab es frische Pommes und einen Beilagensalat sowie verschiedenen Dips. Ich fand es echt gut und hab mit Genuss alles aufgegessen. Die Muscheln empfand ich aber als relativ«normal». Es war halt der typische Sud aus Weisswein und Gemüse. Die besten der Stadt? Ich kanns nicht abschließend beurteilen, aber die Muscheln hier sind gut, wenn auch klassisch zubereitet. Insgesamt entspricht der Eindruck den man auf Unilocal über das Van Speyk gewinnt ziemlich genau der Realität finde ich.

A Friday evening, we ate inside to avoid the boisterous drunks and smokers. It was very quiet by comparison. Service was there, but not attentive. One of the ladies rather have been somewhere else. The food was very good. The soda in the Campari was flat which sort of soured things for me. Escargots were very good but we had to ask for more bread twice. A decent meal though expensive.

Great tasting food(some things were a tad salty, but not too bad), extremely friendly and attentive staff, and a nice interior and location. Right across from the Renaissance hotel so it was very convenient for us as guests there. Their lamb was amazing, and their salmon entrée special for the day was wonderful. Desserts were also delicious!

Beautiful little place located close to Crown Plaza and the Renaissance hotel. A reservation is a must. Typical Dutch style service. We loved the scallops and the steak. While the pork chops was nicely seasoned it was so over cooked that it was difficult to cut and more so to eat. To be fair, they said it would be fully done and that was an understatement. Warning, the stairs to the restrooms are only for agile rock climbers.

This place is a solid 4.5 stars but I had to take off some points for the fact that our server forgot to put in our entrée order. Probably not that big of a deal but we wanted a quicker dinner than usual. My friends and I decided to come here since it seemed like a great place and it was right next to our hotel. We had the escargot which came out in the shell(rarely see this in the US). It was very flavorful. We also had an order of the steak tartare and fig salad. Both were delicious. And then the wait began. At about 30 minutes after our appetizers, our server told us that she forgot to put in our entrée so we didn’t get it for another 30 minutes. She was very nice and apologized and the restaurant even comped a round of drinks. That was a pretty good effort to win our favor back and I think my Jameson on the rocks complemented my lamb dish really well. My friends enjoyed their meals(tuna steak and braised pork chop). I have to give credit to the staff because there was only four of them and the restaurant was slammed. Except for the extra long wait(doesn’t appear to be consistent issue) it was a great experience and I’d come back if in the area again.

Great ambience inside an old brick building with beautiful chandeliers. Now the food… i was recommended the rack of lamb and it did not disappoint. It came with these baby broccolis that I’ve never seen before with potatoes and a few blue chips that all complimented the dish. The standout was the lamb cooked to perfection with a side of bone marrow paste? Not sure what was in it but it was delicious. It was the perfect compliment to the lamb. The staff here was incredible as well! They took their time explaining everything about the dishes and also had the perfect wine suggestions for each dish. I’m glad I stopped in:)

Liked it very much. Great energy and very nice people. Watch out for the stairs going down to restrooms! Very steep! So if you drink alot of wine, Be Careful. We had scallops, both tartars, and pear salad. All very good. Try the espresso martini!!!

Came here for dinner and it was wonderful. The décor was nice and trendy and the service was great. We had the soup of the day — white asparagus, which was wonderful. We also had the guinea fowl and the cod and both were delicious. Would definitely come here again.

My wife and I were in amsterdam for 3 nights, we went there for the first and last night. Really friendly and attentive staff that make you feel comfortable. i had the lobster which tasted really good and the crab cake was excellent(careful, really hot). She had the set dinner which was really value for $ and the cheese cake was great! Really pleasant experience.

The best food on our trip! Oysters delicious and loved the fresh steak tartar. Shrimp croquettes great as well. Entrees: duck breast moist and perfectly sweet. Beef stew tender and full of flavor. Dessert, crème brûlée and cheesecake=yum. Will definitely be back!

If you are staying in the Amsterdam city center, find Van Speyk. Had the Ribstuk with an amazing mushroom sauce and fresh mixed vegetables. Absolutely amazing. Staff was very friendly, the place is clean and a great design.

It is OK, but doubt I go back. Seems like they are trying to put a french spin on dutch food, or vice versa, but not really getting either. Décor and staff are great, but the food misses the mark I would have expected for the pricing.

The first night we arrived at the Crowne Plaza, we asked the concierge for a dinner suggestion. He said Van Speyk. However, we wanted to walk some of the city so we decided to venture away from this area. We came back the next night(a Friday). The décor of this restaurant is very nice. Beautiful chandeliers hang from the ceiling. We had a group of 3 and were promptly seated. I do not think this is normal as the night prior, the place was full when we walked past. I think it would be best to make a reservation. We had a huge lunch so I wanted something a bit lighter for dinner. I opted for the sea bass dish. My colleagues had the venison and duck. The food came out rather quickly which was nice. My sea bass was delicious! Everything on the plate was great! My colleagues also said their dishes were great! We ordered dessert. I had the White Chocolate Cheesecake which was light and fluffy with delicious berries on the top. We thoroughly enjoyed this dining experience.
