I’ve eaten here numerous times over the past few years. The food has always been consistent and was a nice reminder of American food. The owner is super friendly too.

I was dying for some mexican food, I hadn’t ordered since my first experience with the Taco Shop nearly a year ago, but after reading all the good reviews I decided to give it another try. I ordered one the most popular items on the menu, a chicken chimichanga and the super nachos. The delivery came promptly, but once I opened the package I was highly disappointed to find one super nacho and one chicken nacho. I checked the receipt in case I personally messed up the order… nope, 1 chicken chimichanga, one super nacho on the receipt. I was not interested in waiting 45 minutes for an fix of my order as it was already getting late, so we tried eating both nachos but they were not that great(I recalled them being better then this), and there were a lot of them in each order, and as stated, there were two of them. The chimichanga may live up to the hype, but I will never know. Two disappointing experiences and I will not make another one with the Taco Shop.

I have been curious about this Taco shop for a long time. So, I finally decided to try them out. I knew when I wrote this review that I would be some what critical, since I am from Cali, where authentic taco stands are on every corner in LA. Plus half of my family is from Central America, so they kick ass when it comes to making tostadas. I am giving them 1 star, because Dutchman loved the beef taco, it was a major winner in his book. 2nd star, because the customer service was good and 3 stars, because the tostada was alright. I would stay clear from the Spanish rice or Mexican salad side dish, it was a true disappointment in my book, but no biggie because the side orders was like 2 euros. Now as far as the rest, enjoy. The price is pretty cheap, you can get a lot of food for a reasonable price. Since Dutchman was happy with his beef taco, I am sure that I will be back again for him. Oh… by the way I saw a sign that said the shop is up for sale.

Nice place and people but food is series of can stuff that is microwaved. That said, still better than taco mundo but far far far far behind Tomatillo

«Feeders & Gainers», for the love of chimichanga… Ever since watching Meet the Fockers, I’ve been obsessed with the chimichanga. Didn’t know what it was — required some google intervention — but I knew I NEEDED it! However, where’re talking 2004, pre-yelp-expats-demanding-better-Tex Mex in a’dam times here and all we were left with was pathetic Taco Mundo. So…, where to get a chimichanga? Luckily, I just so happened to go apartment hunting in the Tolstraat around that same time. The turquoise tinted Taco Shop immediately drew my attention. Upon entering the words«Chimichanga» greeted my like a halo and I’ve never deviated from the chimichanga ever since. I always go for the smothered version with a side of nachos and some extra guacamole and salsa, cause it’s so gooood! Turns out, the apartment was absolutely tiny. With the whole apartment being about ½ the size of the Taco shop, there would be no escaping the fumes after eating one of those«refried» pinto beans laden and ranchero sauce bathed bundles of joy. Good thing the apartment was a mouse trap and I’d decided not to go for it. Because I consider the Taco Shop to be «Feeders» based on their gigantic portion size and I envision myself sitting in my cramp 1-room studio living solely on a diet of chimichangas, smothered. Which I would have delivered — cause Taco Shop does deliver! — eventhough only living a few doorsteps away, meanwhile rubbing my ever expanding belly. Love goes through the stomach and nothing against fat fetishism, but for the love of chimiganga I’m so happy that was just my imagination running wild… What was that again about Running Junkies…

Friendly owner and good Mexican. Slightly out of the tourist hub — bring cash if you don’t have a Dutch bank card. And your appetite– I’m pretty sure the burrito was larger than my face. Luckily that’s why they made the stomach a muscle right? For this kind of exercise. Oh and the guac is of the creamy cheesy variety. Not my usual favorite but super good!

Absolutely the worst burrito I’ve ever eaten ANYWHERE. Soggy, tasteless, greasy. Just such poor quality it’s unbelievable that they are even in business let alone seemingly popular on Unilocal?Portions are big but that’s pretty moot when the food is not good.

I really love the taco shop. Well for me though burritos are in the same category as the saying about pizza and sex. When I first moved here I thought that Turkish pizzas were going to be the closest thing I could find to a real Tex-Mex style burrito. Lucky for me Amsterdam has been opening more and more good Tex-Mex burrito places. Now I won’t say that The Taco Shop only has burritos but it’s just usually what I go for. I have also had the nachos and a couple of tacos. Now the prices may seem a bit high here but keep in mind the portions are also pretty big. I was a little shocked when I saw the taco for the first time a lot bigger than the usual Mexican style again in the US. Another thing that I do like about this place is the owner. He’s always in a good mood and always happy to do specialty orders. There is no vegetarian burrito on the menu but I asked him to just throw all the veggies into one and wrap it up. He was glad to do so. I really like it when people seem to like what they do. It shines through in their product. The only complaints I have, which consequently is also why I haven’t eaten there more than just once. They don’t have any beer?! I really crave Mexican beer when I’m eating Mexican food, go figure. It actually might be bordering on a problem. If they could stock up with some Corona, Dos Equis, or Pacifico I would be most happy.

Holy cow the portions here are huge! Unless you’re starving, SHARE! I had the super chicken nachos. It hit the spot for sure. Some odd things: — the chicken wasn’t shredded or even cut into small pieces. there were gigantic chunks /cubes of chicken in there. — the guacamole was weird. i don’t even know how to explain it but it’s not like any guac i encountered. — no beans. boo. — i prefer steak nachos but their beef nachos were of the ground variety. My friend ordered the chicken tacos and the shell is a buritto wrapper deep fried. It was really more like a deconstructed chimichanga but hey it also hit the spot. Why can’t I give 3.5 stars here? Yes, I’m a fan with some reservations but it’s definitely better than a-ok! Oh and this is definitely a casual, as my friend described it, «hole in the wall». You go for the grub and that’s it. No beers. No margs. Just pretty good tex-mex.

Love this place! And just around the corner for me :) The Tace Shop looks really cool. It has the really awesome vibe and cool dudes working there. Also they are really friendly. You can take-away or eat in. Also you could eat alongside the amstel with your take-away in the summer, which would be nice. Food is just the best. I LOVEIT. Best burrito I’ve ever had. The guacamole is also really nice. Love everything here! For me this isnt a cheap take-away but definately worth it.

This little taco joint is an oasis in Amsterdam’s stormy seas of overpriced cafes and banal culinary offerings. If you love down n’ dirty Mexican food, this is one of the only places in the lowlands where you’ll be able to find it. The Taco Shop is owned and operated by a bloke from Colorado who knows his tacos. His Super Burrito is just, an enormous chunk o’ deliciousness. Better yet, the prices here are downright reasonable. They’re higher than what you’ll pay for similar food in the states but beggars can’t be choosers in a country that still considers«uitsmijters» tasty and hutspot anything other than gruel. There’s a good reason why the walls in the dining area area are covered with autographs and photos of US and UK rock stars. And that reason = quality eats at low prices.

This place was a godsend for an expat American looking for Tex-Mex in Amsterdam. Taco Mundo is not really very good(I’ll never forget when they gave me «nachos» where they didn’t melt the cheese onto the chips, claiming«everybody does it that way — we try to be unique” — this was ages ago, mind you)…Anyway, Taco Shop has just the right flavour beef or chicken tacos and an awesome red sauce. Haven’t been there in a while as I moved, but the people working there were always really friendly. Sitting is limited and the menu is not extensive, but the food is great. Hm, just writing this review makes me want to drive over there now and have some tacos!

Ok, so Mr. Cook man comes from my hood back in Littleton and all, but I really dug his food. Down-home Southwestern cooking with plenty of green chiles(it’s what sets the New Mexican kitchen apart from the rest). Smothered and with a side of everything. The chips are store bought and run-of-the-mill but the rest of the food is awesome. Could use a better seating arrangement but it makes me feel like I’m grubbing on Federal Blvd. in Denver. Love. Love. Love.

Whenever I get homesick for Chicago Mexican food, this place always hits the spot. Eating here really takes me back to El Gallo Bravo #5, the taqueria across the street from my old place in Chi-town. They have all their values straight here: lots of cheese(and the right kind of cheese), fresh guacamole, no corn!, more refried beans than you can shake a stick at, and if you get delivery or take out it’s all packaged in foil and an unassuming low-key styrofoam container. It’s like the opposite of Taco Mundo, which serves more like the fake cheese nachos you’d find at a baseball game, but their branding is all over the place. I can’t say enough good things about this place. Their delivery is pretty quick, and if you call them to place an order, chances are you’ll talk to a real, friendly American. When they say they’ll smother your burrito, they really smother your burrito. Anything can be made vegetarian, which I really appreciate. Their burritos have just the right combination of dry and wet ingredients, and they’re not too full or too empty. The only thing I wasn’t totally thrilled with was the bean burrito. I was really craving refried beans, but this giant thing had so many refried beans it was ridiculous. Still, it was a welcome surprise from the Taco Mundo bean taco, which has like 3 lonely red beans spread out over the taco, never to make each other’s acquaintance. One taco here is enough to fill me up, whereas it takes 3 Taco Mundo tacos to accomplish the same thing. If you order a Super Taco, then you’ll probably have enough for 2 meals. It’s basically a giant taco served in a taco salad shell. It’s so good, but so big! Bottom line: If you’re looking for Mexican food, come here!

+ Large portion + Tasty + Fresh — As Miss Ally A. writes earlier, neither Amsterdam nor Colorado is known for their mexican food, and as I wrote, the food is tasty and fresh — but it’s not really Mexican. I have eaten really good Mexican food in Europe(Zagreb has a REALLY tasty place hidden in a backyard in the town centre), but this just doesn’t make it. — Our order took over 20 minutes(two burritos). I don’t know if that’s normal. My 3 is a strong 3, and I do recommend you going there if you want to eat tasty and fresh food. But if you are used to authentic burritos you will be a bit disappointed. (I am actually changing my rating to a 4 — after all. The food is good and fresh, large portions, and getting a smothered burrito for under € 10 in Amsterdam is well worth the money BUTBEWARE it’s not really Mexican)

We love taco shop! They even have corn tortillas, not easy to find in the ‘dam. Delivery is usually pretty fast, nice guys, and they give you TONS of food. We got the beef nachos last time, they were amazing. Sometimes the food is better than others, but we keep coming back for more.

You’re stoned. You’re in Amsterdam. Suddenly, you are STARVING. The only cure to that hunger? A burrito. Duh. The Taco Shop will certainly fill that growing empty space within your stomach. Their burritos are California large, which is just the right size to make you unbotton your jeans and spread out on the couch like a satisfied cat. Granted, we’re in Holland and the owner is from Colorado. Neither places are known for their burrito perfection skills. So, this isn’t as good as it gets. BUT, it’s probably as good as it gets in Amsterdam. Why don’t I give them a 4 star? They microwave everything. That’s just wrong. :( But, the warm tortilla encasing the goodness nearly makes me forget that they zapped it… so I give them a 3. :) I’ll return when I’m in need of a fat serving of food.

Nice, juicy, tasty and BIG burrito. I’m talking real girth here! Makes for some very messy eating!(stop thinking«that’s what she said». I said«BURRITO»!) Tip: Don’t walk while eating a burrito from here… not so good for your clothes. I had to learn the hard way. It’s not a place I would sit at to eat. Luckily they deliver, and otherwise I’d drop by to pick up some takeout. I’ll be going back here to pick up some tacos! Then I’ll edit this review. The only thing so far: The beef burrito(not smothered) that I ordered today was not at all spicy, in my opinion.

Having formerly lived most of my life in Canada, I had precisely zero access to palatable Mexican food(or Tex Mex, as it were) upon my first visit to The Taco Shop. As such I was both startled and pleasantly surprised when I found absolutely scrumptious burritos in Amsterdam. Come here for delicious, fast and CHEAP Tex Mex without the high cost of a trip to the southern U.S. Head honcho Logan is an American ex-pat from Colorado, of all places, who whips up a mean burrito that you’ll most definitely want to order in its«smothered» incarnation. Smothered = more sauce and sickeningly good accoutrements than you can shake a stick at, so don’t miss out. The Vegetarian Smothered Burrito for 7 € is truly where it’s at. Logan’s pop opened the original Taco Shop in Copenhagen some years ago and it’s been kicking ass in Amsterdam for nearly 20 years. Marvel at Logan’s likeness to prankster Jack Black and make pals with the friendly staff and regular customers who patronize this mostly anglo establishment. Definitely a repeat visit if you want something zesty while in Amsterdam.

California/Colorado style burritos filled with flavor and perfect for those missing that comforting taste of Cali/Colorado Mexican! These are phatboy burritos, so make sure you take that into consideration when ordering. A bit let down and represented in the 3 stars, that there is no carne asada, but the chili verde is perfect! Bring some cold beers with you and kick back on the banks of the Amstel River … well worth the journey from Centrum!

A great place to have a mexican informal borrito or something like that. The team is very friendly, the food is good and comes fast and in huge portions(very not common to stingy Netherlands), it’s not expensive and you feel great there. Not so much place to sit inside, they have also seats outside.
