Best authentic thai food in EAst of Amsterdam! Also for take out, does not deliver sadly, but the owner always provides tea and a snack when waiting for your food!

A solid four stars for generous portions and great curry. The glass noodle salad is now my girlfriends favorite in town. Sometimes it can be a bit spicy for her but she now asks for them to turn down the heat. There are few vegetarian options on the menu but again, all you have to do is ask and they are happy to cook any of the dishes with tofu for you. Cash only but there is a cash machine at the end of the street. This place has been discovered so its wise to make a reservation.

A hidden secret in Amsterdam East, Thaicoon is a small restaurant with a menu that should have a Michelin star. The food here is delicious and the portions are generous. The interior is tastefully modern with comfortable chairs and benches along the walls. There is a baby chair for the wee ones. The kitchen staff(all female) greet the regulars from the open kitchen and the owner remembers your name even after months! My favourite meal here is the Tom Yam Kai(spicy, and I mean spicy! chicken soup) followed by the Kai Pad Med Mamuang, chicken with vegetables and cashew nuts. Other favourites are the different curries and the grilled beef with chilli. Most meals come with a generous helping of vegetables and rice. Vegetarians can be catered for with basically the whole menu where the meat is replaced by tofu. If you don’t like tofu: I’ve seen an Indian family eating there and they had brought Paneer(Indian home-made cheese) to use instead of the tofu. No problems from the staff. The restaurant also does take-away meals, and you can order them via telephone. It is advisable to reserve a table as the restaurant is quite small and filled to the brim most evenings. That in itself is a measure of the popularity and the quality of the food!

No vegetarian dishes on the menu but they made a lovely green curry tofu with a smile. Good service!

For some reason, Amsterdam Oost seems to be short on Thai places, so it’s a good thing Thaicoon is there. It’s the real Amsterdam-Thai deal: staff are mostly Thai, decorations include pictures of the King and they play Thai pop music. The food is «real spicey»(as opposed the watered down spicey for Western tastes) as it is in many Thai spots in Amsterdam. When we were there the staff seemed a bit overwhelmed by how busy the place was, but once we put our orders in they came through quick enough and… it was good.
