Worst place ever ! Dance floor can only accom. 25max. Terrible music. Rip off drinks and unfriendly staff. Worst 5 € I have ever spent on a night club. Would not recommend. Irish girl travelling with friends

Anyone Who knows a little bit about the night scene in Amsterdam is well aware that aside from some very specific bars, most of what is going on around Leidseplein is aimed at foreigners after the wild times Amsterdam is unfairly famous for. The sugar factory is among those just mentioned places, where aside from very specific nights, it’s just another place full of high on beer tourists and characters alike. Additionally their pipe system must be constantly clogged because the vile smell was unbearable. Expect the usual main stream beers and spirits served in poorly rinsed plastic glasses. On the«positive side», it is open until rather late, so if you are in the area, bars are closing, and you are ready to endure the delicious aroma of steal beer and toilet, the sugar factory will be there to provide you with one last drink!

The crowd here is relatively young, the music is pure techno Eurotrash. Buying drinks will leave a dent in your pocket, and the toilets are amongst the most cramped I’ve experienced in a club. When collecting my coat at the end of the night, after having my phone stolen, the male member of staff on the cloakroom was disbelieving(as my phone had been stolen, and he felt my attitude toward this fact was too casual — what else could I do in a foreign country, I was leaving in 2 days!) and I was subjected to an extended line of questioning before I was even allowed to claim my jacket. Would definitely recommend friends to AVOID this place on any trip to Amsterdam.

I was here to experience night club scene during my solo trip to Amsterdam. This place has expensive cover charge during the weekends and It has more like underground party house feel. It was relatively more crowded after 12AM like many other night clubs. Drinks are pricey. Jazz isn’t my thing but I still wanted to give it a shot and see. I personally didn’t enjoy the music as much as I wished. Its mostly fusion of house and jazz music I would say.

The techno/house here on the night we went was off the chains. We saw Jean & La plastique here — proper. Dance floor was stuffy sometimes and had a lot of dudes — that seems to be the case in most clubs in this specific area, though. Smoking area is upstairs. No windows in a room — pretty gross. We were able to go outside for fresh air and smoke — just have to wait in the cue to get back in :) 50 cents for restrooms and there’s coat check. Bouncer was nice and no bs. Fun night if you just want to groove to some good music!

Been to the Sugar Factory a few times now. The feel is very underground, and quite cozy. When there is a dance party, you can dance on stage, which is cool. The music system is pretty good, loud, but not ear popping. I am not a technician, so I have no clue how they do that. but it feels good when you cycle home the next morning at sunset… yay, I can hear the birds! The drinks are not super expensive, just the normal price for Amsterdam night live. What’s cool though is that when you order water, they always ask you if tap water is OK. And of course that is free. So that makes it a bit easier to stay hydrated :) All in all a nice club, good vibe, nice people… just go there! :)

Came here on christmas eve to see what i could experience of the dutch club scene. Was very interesting experience. They had a local DJ playing what seemed to be a lighter more relaxed version of what we consider trap music in the states. It sounded very pleasant and was nice/chill to dance to. By no means rave status or anything. A few hours into the night they had a performance, which i did not quite understand because of the cultural barrier but did enjoy due to the fresh experience of never seeing anything of that nature before

This is THE place to be on a cold Sunday night in Amsterdam! Think of it as live Jazz meets House music with pretty good sound system and lights. I have to admit I was super skeptical of this place when I first heard it was live jazz but still electronic but there was literally nothing else going on that night. We got there right around midnight and the place was still pretty empty. Cover was 9.50 plus 1.50 for a coat check for both myself and the lady I was with. By 2 am this place was absolutely PACKED with locals. It felt like we were the only tourists in the entire place(which is good in my book). It was classy, unique, very different, and easily one of the highlights of my trip. Everyone inside(patrons, bartender, security, everyone!) was so friendly it was incredible. There were loads of beautiful dutch girls who seemed fine dancing with almost anyone and it was a very fun atmosphere. The live band truly was extremely talented and really know how to put on a fun show. We left a bit after 3 and it was going as strong as ever — I couldn’t recommend a better place to go on a Sunday.

Not my jam. Cement floor. Uninspired décor. Expensive drinks. Lame clientele. Pretty much sums it up.

So on Saturday I was out to dinner with a few Dutch friends, and afterwards we went back to my hotel to swap some stories that required an internet connection. Once back in the room, my friend suggested that since a group of «a few friends» was going out clubbing for the evening, we should invite them over for drinks, then go out at a big pack. Smashcut to: 20 drunk Amsterdamians in my hotel room, tearing the place up. I incurred a great deal of incidental damages, none of which I regret. Bundled up around midnight, we set out in a veritable gang of taxis(cabs in Amsterdam are all S-Classes, take note, NYC) for the Sugar Factory. Getting into the club was a breath of fresh air when compared to the U.S. equivalent. Five minutes, tops, and the club was quite popular that night. The dance floor was packed, and the DJ was spinning stereotypical Dutch electronic. Very fast paced and high pitched rough beats, not my specific cup of tea, but I can appreciate the culture, especially when I am so deep in a group of enthusiastic locals. I found the venue itself, at least the downstairs part, to be kind of drab. It reminded me of those large indoor laser-tag places out in the suburbs we used to go to as kids for birthday parties, minus the obstacles and décor. Just kind of a multi-level matte black box. Upstairs was fantastic though. Trendy like whoa, this section looked like a scene out of Julian Assange’s bunker(reminder: at this point, I am full-blown drunk). It is designated the smoking room, but the large layout, big couches, futuristic movies on monitors, and plumes of cigarette and pot smoke add to the hazy-futuristic dreamscape quality, and they had those huge smoke-sucking machines in the ceiling, so it wasn’t a problem for non-smokers to hang out with their fuming friends. Leaving the club? Yeah, I mean, we had to have. I mean, I’m here now. But for the life of me I can’t remember.
