Stone’s is the second coffeehouse we visited in Amsterdam. Although it was a Monday night, the streets were teeming with European teenagers and early 20-somethings looking to get loaded. My middle-aged husband and I entered looking to buy several different kinds of product, but the guy behind the counter was so incredibly rude I barely had a chance to look at anything. Look, I’m not naïve. I know they deal with stupid kids all the time and must be all sorts of jaded, but the way we were treated, especially when we were trying to spend some money there, was awful. I asked for a recommendation,(which I heard was a sensible thing to do in one of these establishments) and he wouldn’t even respond to me. I know he understood and spoke English, but would only point and grunt. I picked out one type of joint, then he grabbed the money my husband had pulled out and had our change to us before I could order anything else. I said«I wasn’t done yet,» then pointed to a space cake. He tossed it at me, grabbed from the change he had placed on the counter, and he was done with us once again. A complete asshole. Had I not been so tired and generally fed up with the hippies in the streets, I would have told him to forget it. I smoked the joint on the way back to our hotel and it sucked. I would never, ever visit this establishment again. Be warned.

This Coffeeshop has an awesome vibe and a super friendly, knowledgeable staff. Located just minutes from Central Station makes it a great place to unwind after a long flight into Amsterdam. The menu is very green and always fresh. This Coffeeshop has a really nice laid back homie feel to it. They also have a no Tobacco smoking policy which makes the air much more pleasant to breath ;)

Very good quality stuff and cheap to be a coffeshop in centre of Amsterdam. Very small place, the team is cold but professional.

Best atmosphere of all the coffee shops I visited. Staff was very helpful and insightful, answered any questions you wanted to ask and offered suggestions. One of the guys that works there(seems like the owners helper) was very attentive and made sure to keep the place tidy as people came and left. You feel very comfortable there and there are a couple of bars directly across the street that serve drinks and allow smoking in their designated smoking rooms. All in all for vibe, selection, service, etc. This was hands down my favorite of all coffee shops! They even referred another shop on the other side of town where I was going to be later in the day. They wrote down directions for us and all. Hats off to the staff, doing a great job there!

NOPE! Walked in here to grab a quick beer while touring the area and this dude(the owner?) he looked like Uncle Fester from the old Addams Family series… he was yelling about something when we walked in. He was obviously hammered or maybe just messed in the head. Anyway, he sees me and goes, hey, it’s Shirley Temple! SHIRLEYTEMPLE! HEYEVERYONEIT’S SHIRLEYTEMPLE! This literally went on for a few minutes straight. I was super embarrassed but had already ordered the beer. We went to drink it outside. Then he comes out and starts banging on someone else’s table… still yelling about this and that. We chugged our beers and ran away from this horrible, horrible place.

Ah, Stones. You hold a special place in my heart. I’ve been through Amsterdam a couple times now and each time starts, almost ceremoniously so, with a stop at Stones Café. The pleasant, laid-back, chill atmosphere is great. Some other coffee shops in Amsterdam fill the air with low-volume house music(and sometimes not so low-volume), black lights, and other assorted distractions — and it is when you want that vibe. But when you want a laid back relaxed vibe, Stones Café is the place to go. I’ve been here when they’ve been empty and when packed with customers, and the vibe doesn’t change. Other customers will make you feel like you’re amongst friends, or will leave you be, determined by your own vibe. If you want to sit with a cup of coffee and a smoke and chill, have at it. If you sit near a group and chat them up, you will feel like you’ve found long lost friends and are just chilling out while the lighter gets passed around. The staff are all very friendly, polite, helpful, and welcome any and all questions you might have, including questions regarding the laws and taxes(the staff are quite knowledgeable and field these types of questions more than one might think). If you’re an amateur like me, the staff will roll your purchases for you upon request. Overall Stones Café is a great place! It is always my first stop in town(well, after dropping bags off at the hotel) and will remain so for there is no better way to sit back, have a cup of coffee, enjoy a smoke, just relax and enjoying just«being».
