Just got in from a long traveling day from Wisconsin, USA. Found Staring At Jacob on Unilocal… so glad we made the stop! Funky little brunch stop with different choices. Super fresh food. Great bloody Mary. The boyfriend had the«Dirty, Dirty» and LOVED it. I had the DYI tacos and wish there was a bit more flavor going on, but overall super fresh and filling. Fast, friendly service. Great locally owned place. Defintely recommend!

I loved the fried chicken and the ice coffee was quite decent. If you visit on a weekday it is not that crowded and you can enjoy the space better

Great atmospheer, helpful and nice staff, amazing and original menu… Staring At Jacob definitely is the place to brunch in Amsterdam! I tried the French Toast with its bacon, banana caramel sauce, topped with cinnamon and little fruit compote, it was SO good! I definitely didn’t expect banana and bacon to be that good together. Their coffees were really good as well, my flat white was perfect. Just beware of one thing: they don’t take reservations! So if you show up for brunch, don’t expect to get a table inside right away. However, you can wait outside with a coffee and a nice view, it’s definitely worth it!

Fried chicken with black beans and fried eggs was good. The americano coffee was good. Service is typical speed — not especially fast or slow.

Heard about this place and the pictures made me want to try for myself! I was here on a Monday afternoon and it wasn’t crowded at all. Had the ‘Dirty dirty’ which has fried chicken, waffles, fried eggs and black beans. So good! Would love to try the other dishes sometime.

Not worth the hype, especially if you’re vegetarian. And they don’t know how to make pancakes. I could make better ones without all the ingredients and when half asleep. They even burned them! Inexcusable. There was a tad bit of waiting time on Sunday for brunch, and even though we were told to expect to wait for half an hour, a table was offered in half that time. Once inside, the service seemed to slow down quite a bit. I asked the server for some recommendations and he just slid back and threw his hands in the air like I asked for a complex physics puzzle. I went with the omelette of the day, which I guess wasn’t the popular dish of the day as he had to step into the kitchen to enquire what really made it special. The omelette was alright. It tasted a bit like airport omelette. No explanation why. We also ordered a portion of the tacos which were good and had a slight smokey flavor. The servings were very straight to the point — no extra salad or dressing or garnishing. For drinks, we had the Bloody Mary. It was good. I love pancakes and since one of the reasons for my trek here was to try some — I ordered a side of pancakes. They arrived in a pair, with a little bowl of syrup. The pancakes were not fluffy at all! They were like these rounds of thick sponge. One of them was even burnt. All in all, an alright brunch spot that was overhyped to the extreme when it opened up — I am somewhat dismayed to see that it isn’t really all that. On the bright side, it doesn’t quite have the same wait time as other hyped spots around Amsterdam.

Great vibe inside, warm and brown. Nice location along the canal too. I was there with a big group — many of them with specific dietary needs. The wait staff was struggling a bit to keep everything smooth, but that was understandable. The food was good. I asked for scrambled eggs, which is a simple thing to make, but also quite easy to get wrong. My scrambled eggs were well made that day and I had no complaints. It was a weekend day and pretty busy on the floor, so it was a bit of a challenge for my toddler who wanted to move around a bit and explore the place.

Love it! Food was really good, nice atmosphere and location! It’s the only brunch place in Amsterdam where you can make a reservation!

Great food with expert flavour combinations. Sweet little hipster décor too. Service is a little slow but it’s so charming here who cares.

Had an absolutely fabulous meal. The coffee was some of the best I’ve had and the french toast and boar benedict were to die for. We went on a quiet Monday morning and had great service without a wait. Would very highly recommend.

Great food, all of the names and the recipes sound like they come from the South. The Dirty Dirty, Chiken and Waffles, all southern connotations. The only thing they were missing was the grits and cheese.

This place has been on my bucket list for a long time. Finally yesterday I went and it didn’t disappoint me! I really love the atmosphere, the people that where serving and of course the surprising dishes and drinks(Bloody Mary with homemade BBQ sauce!) you can eat and drink here. They have glutenfree options(which I choose to share with my friend who was joining). Especially the fish dish with octopus was awesome.

L.O.V.E!!! Atmosphere: Super chill. Chicken and waffles: Delicious, with the best dipping sauce I have ever had!!! Mimosa: Who can go wrong with alcohol before noon? Service: Excellent! Spoke with him and found out he went to school in Ohio(as well as myself) and actually went to University of Dayton with my sister’s fiancé! If you need a spot to go in Amsterdam that will not disappoint food AND service wise look no further! Best food I’ve had in Amsterdam in months!

This spot has become very popular amongst expats in Amsterdam for brunch. Run by a New Yorker, the menu reflects the roots of the chef. They have a great cocktail menu and American classics such as chicken and waffles. Highly recommended to Ale a reservation as this place is very popular and unless you have booked a table you will have to wait.

Food is amazing! Trust! I live in Los Angeles, home of the foodie hipster movement, and the food here will not disappoint! The Bloody here is on point and has a perfect kick to it. Great music selection, perfect wait staff, friendly environment, and did I mention the food? This is a must try spot for those that can do without the canal ring traps. I will be back for sure! Thanks Jacob!

Great spot for Bloody Mary’s and chicken n’ waffles! One of the few real brunch options in Amsterdam. Reasonably priced for the portions, which are generous. It can get pretty crowded for brunch, so call ahead or expect a wait.

Yep, I really love Staring at Jacob. Maybe a little too much. Part of that could be the delicious Bloody Mary’s which have been so hard to find as of late. That or the Chai Old Fashioned. Aside from the great brunch drinks the food is outstanding. My first visit was on New Year’s Day and we were certainly invested in trying it out proper. In fact we had three meals between the two of us. As a starter we shared fish tacos. They are breaded perfectly and covered in slaw, with what must be house made tortillas. Can you get corn tortillas in the NL? For the next two plates it was the fried chicken and waffles, along with the pork belly Benedict. Both dishes were great but the chicken and waffles certainly stands out. This coming from someone who hates chicken. Really, even though it was new year already I don’t think I had a bite of chicken all of 2014. Oh wait! No I did have a bite of the ones at Fraiche. Somehow, these were better. On the second trip it was a blowout too. We were celebrating a friend getting her permanent contract so we sort of had to, right? for this mail I shared the pork belly Benedict and the chorizo omelette. even though the Benedict is great I think the omelettes beaded out with flavor. The tree so was nice and spicy in the pico de gallo gave it a nice freshness. I will certainly be back here again and again. Even though it’s a little bit further bike ride then my local.

I went here a couple of months after I posted my original review, and I have to say that they have stepped everything up a notch! Service is lightning fast, friendly and attentive, the menu is polished and the food delicious, and the atmosphere is as wonderful as ever. The only«complaint» I still have is that all of their menu items are massive — I can never eat that much for breakfast. However, they have a hefty list of «sides» including things like 2 eggs any style and bacon, from which you can pick and choose to make your own(smaller, in my case) meal. And of course they make an insanely good Bloody Mary. I’ve just moved into their neighborhood and I think this will become my regular haunt!

Staring at Jacob has a beautiful interior overlooking the canal on the Jacob van Lennepkade. We were seated immediately in the back even when it was bustling at noon. We were helped immediately, asked what we’d like to drink and served with a smile. yay! I had the benny hill(a take on eggs benedict with fish instead of bacon) and my mister had a little bit of everything with fluffy pancakes, eggs bacon and potatoes. 2 cappuccinos and and orange juice later, we needed to be rolled out of the place. Nice food, great service and super reasonable prices. I’d go again!
