Inconsistent. I work around the block and go to the Salsa Shop at least 2 times a month. In the last year I have worked in this neighborhood, I have watched the burritos get smaller and smaller. I just spent € 9 on the smallest steak burrito I have ever seen. The wraps they use are very large, but they either fill it with very little, or they roll it so strangely, it looks more like a fat lump than a burrito. This place used to serve a normal sized, normal looking burrito. I’m not sure why, but all of my colleagues agree, it is definitely falling off the charts. It’s a shame. The food is really good. Just not worth paying a high price and being hungry after.

This is a great place to enjoy a mexican burrito. You can either choose the burrito on a bread or in a box. I took the latter one and it was a massive amount of food. The ingredients are fresh, the price is okish to be Amsterdam and the place is good. I wouldn’t choose it for a formal dinner, more like a casual lunch or food after some beers with friends. If you are visiting the city and don’t fancy dutch food, it is also a good place to go to. Only think I can complain is that they charge you 2 extra EU for the guacamole unless you are veggie that they won´t charge you. I think is a bit of a rib off but for the rest everything is great.

Was anyone else super sad when The Taco Shop closed? I was. They had the best damn burritos in town. But then baby Jesus smiled upon us and opened Salsa Shop, and all rejoiced. Uitstekend! Best California/Tex-Mex in Amsterdam. They skimp a bit on the chips, and you have to pay for them, but you won’t even need them because their generous portions are super filling. Also, Cholula is the superior hot sauce over Tapatio and I’m glad Salsa Shop knows it. One time, a couple weeks ago, they ran out of carnitas(my favorite) and their pin machine was out of order and they could only take cash(which they’re not setup to do). The workers were all flustered, especially when they couldn’t give me back exact change. So I just gave them more money. They deserved it.

disclaimer; this is as good as it gets in amsterdam. Sure its not your abuelita’s authentic burritos and ultra soft tacos, but it comes pretty close. Salsa shop is basically Amsterdam’s own version of Chipotle, with fast service, build-as-you-go choices and cafeteria-style seating. Cholula hotsauce, for the win! The service is mostly good, though they seem to be surprised when its heaving by lunch rushes. I’m a regular here!

Thats an aaaaawesome mexican restaurant. Has everything, great food, funny cookers, good vibes, cheaper than others, and more things. Typical mexican food. Love chipotle and spicy sauces but there are other ones softer. Great taste and lot of fun this restaurant created with long tables to make everybody together like a mexican familia. MUST.

Basically everything about this place screams Chipotle Mexican Grill. In fact, it’s a near replica except it’s only 90% as tasty. It does have a more diverse selection of salsa to offset this 10% difference in flavor.

I had high expectations for this place. I was not dissapointed. Excellent food, friendly staff, great location. If you don’t mind paying for quality, this is a great option in a city(Amsterdam) lacking quality for value places to eat. Will be back… many times.

I was a big fan of Chipotle, and I am happy with this spot. All the meats I’ve tried are tasty, and the portions are generous. A note to visitors — they don’t take cash.

A near-exact replica of Chipotle burrito from the US, the owners have no shame in admitting they took the entire concept and used it here. Kudos to them because it’s pretty similar. And, for Amsterdam standards, a good burrito. It’s almost the same Chipotle experience in terms of ordering and pretty similar in food quality. Their rice is far off, and their beans are just okay, but they do offer a lot of salsa options and they make a pretty good burrito. So far, the top burrito in Amsterdam, which doesn’t speak much by US standards, but at least it gets us through our cravings with a satisfied feeling. Mmm…I almost want to go back for another one this weekend.

At least it wasn’t microwaved! Weak(but not horrific) chipotle wanna be with low/medium quality ingredients and semi-inedible chicken(Plofkip), lead to a fairly disappointing meal especially after all the positive reviews. Not sure if caught it on a down night, ordered the wrong thing(although who screws up chicken?) or if I’m just spoiled by their competition, but I won’t be I a hurry to come back.

To all Fans of Mexican food and burritos. The Salsa Shop in Amsterdam is definitely a place to stop. They have many choices of meet for your burrito as well and I had the Carnitas, tender, moist and delicious pork. This had really good flavor and was really fresh. The other ingredients are freshly prepared and the salsa is excellent. For the brave that like a lot of heat try the 3 flame hababero salsa. Great flavor but wow, hot, and I like heat. This place will defintely deserve a repeat visit the next time I’m in Amsterdam

As a non-American, my taste for Mexican food is pretty standard. I mean, beans, salsa, pulled meats? All pretty standard, wrapped with a generous serving of lettuce, cheese, sour cream and avocado right? Wrong! So much art and drama is involved in Mexican food and the flavours, well, many an American person has bragged about the most tasty burrito ever. But the reality is, in Amsterdam, this might be as good as you’re going to get. And you know what? I personally think it’s damn good! I’ve had the pulled pork(my favourite) and the grilled chicken and I’ve had both as bowls(a deconstructed burrito without the wrap), with lashings of mashed avocado and I’ve had them both with all the different sauce varieties. We’re talking run of the mill, colour not representative of flavours salsa to ohmygod, Ithinkmymouthisonfire hot. All the sauces are great, but be warned that the hot sauce is(actually really effing) hot! This little hot spot has definitely been on the radar considering when it first opened, we were often the only customers sitting around inhaling burritos. Not so any more so I think I’m right in saying, it’s not bad burrito for Amsterdam!

I really enjoyed my chicken burrito from the Salsa Shop during a recent visit to Amsterdam. The wrap was soft, the chicken was plentiful and the salsa was just peachy. Overall this was a really satisfying lunch. Please not they only take card payments.

I’m seriously saddened to have to downgrade my previous review from three stars to two. Four and a half months after opening and my first visit I returned to Salsa Shop, hoping to see the kinks had been worked out. But unfortunately it seems they have not. First’s let’s highlight two positives: the grilled veggies that I mentioned last time are now cut smaller and were cooked the perfect amount of time. They had the fresh lemonade this time which was delish. Most ingredients were in stock and all personnel were wearing gloves, which as the unofficial Amsterdam hygiene police I immediately noticed. And now the negatives: there was a hair on top of my food. It didn’t look like mine but the fact that it was on top, and not weaved in, leaves the potential that it was mine. But I doubt it. The tacos come on nasty flour tortillas that got completely soaked by something that was put on them — tomatoes? Salsa? Like, totally entirely wet. But they tasted like cardboard to begin with so I wasn’t going to eat them anyways. They put way, way too much toppings on the tacos. If I had wanted to pick them up it would have been impossible. The lady working at the latter end of the counter was a total grouch. When she asked my dining partner what salsa he wanted and he replied«guacamole», she said angrily, «I said which salsa.» And then pointed to the menu to show that the list of salsas did not include guacamole. He tried making a joke of it and she was stone faced. He ordered the burrito bowl which — do not be misled friends — has no tortilla shell like you would get in other establishments. It’s a bunch of salad stuff plus rice and beans in a cardboard box. Which leads me to ask myself, what is the difference between the burrito bowl and the salad? Who knows. And finally, the tables were all dirty. IF I go back, I will get the shell-less burrito bowl and the lemonade and pray for no hairs, no grouches and no dirty tables. But it’s a big if at this point. Oh, and I should note they have changed the opening hours to midnight(not 3am as mentioned in my last review) on the weekends.

I read comparisons with Chipotle in the US, saw the wonderful pictures of appetizing food and figured I’d cater to my food craving here. Underwhelmed. I have not much positive to say except that the one young lad working at the counter was a nice guy. First off, asking people if they want guacamole in their burrito bowl and as a side and with chips is not the same as telling them that it costs a couple euros for each little serving. I don’t even mind it, because it says so clearly on the menu up there, but still. The idea of serving food in a cardboard box isn’t a good one, especially when you’re dining in. It’s far from convenient. The food itself was blander than bland and cold even. It required a generous pouring of chipotle sauce to add some flavor, and no, the mindless of my chosen salsa had not much to do with the flavoring. The chips were subpar, even worse than the wholesome ones you can find at the grocery store. The sour cream wasn’t sour enough. All in all, this was nothing better than other touristy and rip-off choices in the Rembrandtplein vicinity. Avoid.

We were excited to hear about a new ‘Mexican’ place in town. Seeing Cholula hot sauce in pics was all I needed to know — I was there in a flash! The menu is set up like Chipotle where you run down the line adding toppings. The tacos are soft mini flour tortilla shells.(I was hoping for corn though.) While cute, the tacos are pretty impractical if you like your toppings. If you are hungry, go for the burrito. The vegetarian option is grilled peppers. I always hope for something more interesting, as it just feels like another topping, but oh well. Note, while they add toppings mostly for free when you get to the guacamole, they might charge you. When I agreed to guac, instead of adding a dallop to the taco, they said they would just put it on the side. On the receipt I noticed it was an extra € 2, not so cool. The liquados were tasty — fresh lime, cucumber/mint options. Nice! They also have fizzy guava and other fruit flavored soda. The chips are just standard bag chips, neither here nor there. The habanero salsa indeed had a good kick. I really do want to like this place more, but there’s nothing that I’d really crave to go back for. Still, thumbs up for bringing more burrito options to Amsterdam. It’s always welcome!

We moved here 7 months ago from US and this is the closest we have gotten to a Chipotle, Qdoba or Moes. However, they do have some issues they need to fix. I wanted to try their barbacoa but they were out. They were also out of the steak and only had chicken and pork. Owner and head cook really need to keep an eye on this, I am not the first one to comment on the issue and there is no sense in offering something that you don’t serve. Staff was friendly but not really knowledgable on the menu or salsas. Weird as this is their main selling point! Now, I do have to say flavor was on point. I ended up ordering the chicken burrito with chips and guac and it was great. The place is nice and big, very comfortable and easy to get to. Owner must pay attention to some of the flaws and he will have a real gem of a place. Will be back, hopefully I will get to try the barbacoa.

Definitely as good as it gets in Amsterdam! I moved from Atlanta a few years ago and have been missing good Tex Mex from the moment I landed. There are a few places that do an OK job in Amsterdam, but most seem to fall a little flat —(stale store-bought chips, Gouda as the shredded cheese, weak salsa, overpriced, extremely small location, etc). This place seems like the real deal — delicious fresh guacamole, really nicely flavored meat choices, great hot sauces, big portions with more reasonable prices. The location is nice with plenty of seating. You also build your own burrito, so you can get a good proportion of the ingredients you want. I am totally in love and will be telling everyone I know about this place. Hope to see many more of these pop up around the city!

Their pineapple chipotle salsa is wow. Everything else is kinda meh at the moment — I’m hoping they improve quickly as it’s right next door to the office. I’m also happy that they let you grab bottles of Cholula to pour on whatever you’re eating — great job!
