Wow! This place is so simple, but amazing quality! I’ve been here multiple times and never been disappointed! I would totally recommend getting the French onion soup or a Dutch pancake, both 10⁄10! Prefect for breakfast, lunch or dinner after visiting the Anne Frank Huis, as it’s right across the canal

Quiet, little café with good food. I had the toastie with peanut butter, chicken, cucumbers, and spicy Indonesian sauce! It was unique and delicious… and cheap!

Good if you’re on a budget, but not good if you’re pressed for time as service takes a while. My friends and I ordered sandwiches and pancakes(fairly simple dishes) and it took 20+ minutes for our food to arrive. My friends and I enjoyed our lunches and they were pretty much as good as I expected for the prices they gave on menu. The waiters were a bit rude though. They were somewhat dismissive when we asked to split our check. One of the staff’s expression was rather cold when I asked if we could split the check and he said«No, I’ll bring the check to you and you can split it.» I understand that it’s troublesome, but there are more polite ways to go about telling people that you can’t/would prefer not to split the check. If only he had said«No, but I can bring the check to you and you can split it» it would have made things a bit better, but the way he delivered it was on the more abrasive side.

We stopped in to have a Heineken and some lunch after seeing the line to the Anne Frank house. The club sandwich and French onion soup ended up being very good! We sat outside and loved people watching!

This pancake place is near to Anne Frank house(across the canal) so it’s quite handy to grab breakfast at if the queue to Anne Frank is too long. This place is in a great location and has some beautiful views(see photo I uploaded). We ate here at around 10am on a Saturday morning and they didn’t seem very busy in terms of all seats being filled but the service was really rather slow. The food and coffee was relatively cheap for Amsterdam but unfortunately, this showed in the pancakes. The pancake portion was large but unfortunately the savoury pancake I had didn’t cover the whole pancake and was the blandest pancake I’ve eaten in Amsterdam. The savoury pancake was bacon, mushroom, cheese and tomato but the only prominent flavour was the tomato unfortunately. There was hardly any bacon and the cheese was flavourless. Sorry guys but I will not eat your pancake again! I’m sure the sweet option was better though.

Great little sandwich/brunch café by the Anne Frank house. I had a pastrami sandwich, the first time I had seen pastrami on a menu since moving to Europe two years ago. It was awesome. Sandwiches are good, fries alright, and they make smoothies and shakes that are awesome. Throw in free wifi and really low for Amsterdam prices I was sold. This is a place to visit for sure, especially if you are visiting the attractions over on the west part of the old city center.

Upon our travels to Amsterdam on Museum business, we frequent a few places to eat. With«foodies» in our crew, we know a diamond in the rough when we see it and ROEM is it. Food aside, the kind man who runs this tiny restaurant on Prinsengraacht street near Anne Frank House literally lives to please his guests. Always a smile and an eagerness to do right by his patrons, he will customize any sandwich or meal as you wish and not rake you over the coals financially. And he will do it with a smile and never a need to write it down with his photographic memory. Everyone has their favorite entrée at any given restaurant; most order the same thing every time. After all, you can only order ONE thing and then you aren’t back for a while. With that said, rather than do a run down on all the entrees, we will recommend TWO, with really only ONE being«the one thing» you have to order if you venture here. First, go for lunch and second, order the triple decker Chicken Club Sandwich(we will post some images). Fresh toasted delicious white bread, just made pulled white meat chicken, thick buttery sliced avocado, tomato and incredible BACON cooked to perfection and with a flavor unavailable in the USA. Light mayo and onions compliment this beast which has a giant toothpick through it to keep it together. It doesn’t matter WHO we bring to ROEM, they always sing a song over the Chicken Bacon Club through the airport corridors on the way to the plane back to America. We have even brought this sandwich on board, only to see flight attendants drool. Now, if you are anti-bread, then a close runner up is the Chicken Avocado Bacon Salad with fresh butter lettuce. Can’t lose there, either. We are informed that ROEM is set to open a location in New York City. True story. Make sure and have a fresh brewed ILLY Cappucino. We are excited. ROEM is a combination of very fresh ingredients, huge portions and mom and pop friendliness. Recipe for success. Way to go. — Ground Zero Museum Staff, New York City

Slow service, average but cheap food. Service was slow and bad. Typical Dutch. Acted like they couldn’t be bothered. Reuben sandwich on toasted white bread with no dressing. Not horrible but not good. Prices were cheap though so good for budget travelers… i.e. cheap eats very near Anne Frank House.

Server was friendly. Food was really good and prompt. We sat outside under an awning and were covered from the rain. We ordered the blt with avocado and a club sandwich, both were delicious. The fries were crispy and ketchup was good!

Low quality food do not bother. Dry tuna, soft tomatoes. Dry hamburger. Fries were okay. Crêpe okay. Service was mediocre at best

It was our first day in Amsterdam and just wanted a bite to eat. My husband and I came upon a few cafes side by side along the Prinsengracht canal and though it would be nice to sit outside and enjoy the warm weather. The reason for the two stars is that(1) the service was not good and(2) the food wasn’t great. It took a while for us to have our orders taken and even longer for the food to come out. While we were waiting for our food, there was a short rainshower and we noticed a girl rushing over to put up some large umbrellas for the customers sitting out in the open air by the canal. Unfortunately, that was for the establishment next door and not for the café we were at. None of the servers came over once to see how we were as we all stood up and huddled under the one tiny umbrella they had that another customer actually opened up. Even a napkin would have been nice to wipe down our seats but no one came so we ended up just sitting back down on the wet seats. Our server then came out and served the people next to us by reaching over me with his armpits in my face rather than just walking right behind me. Our food came out next and the chicken in my chicken/tomato/gorgonzola panini was dry and didn’t taste very good. I had a few bites and that was it. We really wanted to enjoy our experience but it was definitely sub par. My husband had a club sandwich that was fine, but nothing to write home about. Maybe we just need to order the pancakes instead next time and sit inside, but not sure we will be going back.

Roem is a nice little café in close vicinity of the Anne Frank House and makes for a good stop for a respite and snack before or after the landmark museum. Friendly, prompt service and a value minded menu set apart from many of the other area cafes that appear to capitalize on the tourists flocking to the Anne Frank Huis. 4 stars for the friendly service and Roem’s obvious effort not to gouge the visiting touristswho are simply looking for a pleasant coffee/snack stop.

We had a pancake and coffee breakfast here before visiting the Anne Frank Huis. I had a plain one while my partner had one full of fresh fruit. Now I am not talking tinned fruit but freshly cut banana, melon, strawberry, apple etc etc. Unfortunately, for me, we had to walk back there the next day as she wanted another one LOL. Friendly, chatty service in pleasant surroundings, Very clean. If you are on the way to the museum, pop in, you will NOT be dissappointed.

This small place directly at the Prinsengracht is OK for having a cup of coffee or a snack — however, more tourists than Dutch guys. Quite nearby Anne Frank house.
