Rock club The Cave

Fantastic metal and hard rock bar. Super friendly bartenders who love the music. Live shows are intimate and sound decent given the size of the place. As a metalhead in amsterdam, this is my second home. Bring cash as they don’t take cards.

Much better service, beer and music than Excalibur. Great location too, right near prinsengracht tram stop. We had given the up on hearing good metal in Amsterdam after the underwhelmingly predictable selection at Excalibur but this place had demonic growls and thundering axe tunes blasting out the doorway as we went past, much to our joy.

OMG Beer, beer and more beer of pretty much the same beer in big glasses, outlandishly huge mugs and small glasses served by this friendly, hand shaking, ginormous bartender. Okay not so much choice or finesse but the ambiance, the darkness, the OH so freaking loud, head banging, heavy metal music assaulting your eardrums causing you to shake your head in well… glee? Ehehehe there’s something gleeful in shaking your head to heavy metal music whilst you scream out the lyrics and play air guitar. It’s it’s refreshing. And this is a really great place to do it.
Black clothes, black leather, chains, long hair and well the absence of thought and well you blend right in. No no not mindless. Just being with the moment, in the moment, moment to moment. You might call it a biker bar because so many of the clientele look the part but they’re all friendly at least all the ones I met. I could do this all the time a few years back. Well, maybe more than a few because having a conversation by yelling at each other is somewhat draining and fun in a way. Actually, I love it. It’s everything I’m not and it’s great as a change of pace.
They also serve hard liquor here. I didn’t see a huge selection nor anyone drinking anything else besides draft beer but sometimes a shot of Jack with your beer hits you in the face the right way to break you out of the rut you’re in or knock you out from being overstressed.
And guess what? They’re also dog friendly…
