Oranjee

The dragon carrot risotto was absolutely beautiful. So beautiful your taste buds will dance. Pair it off with some champagne and you truly feel you are walking on air.

As I was in the Netherlands for a trip, I came along Oranjee’s. Oranjee is located in Amsterdam with a beautiful view of a canal at your window. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very simple but classy at the same time. As soon as you walk in, there is someone to greet you and to tell you how long the wait is. When we were there, the wait was only fifteen minutes. The décor is not to overwhelming and makes you feel relaxed. The waiters and waitresses were very kind and had lots of energy that filled the room.
We started with Oranjee’s dragon carrot risotto, which was very rich in flavor and the color was amazing. The way the risotto was plated made your mouth water and made you want to order another one once you were done with the first.
For the main course, I decided to go with Oranjee’s Belgian White asparagus with a lavender infusion. The flavor of the asparagus flavor balanced with the richness of the lavender infusion. My wife ordered the green garlic gnocchi with red mustard leaves. The dish was executed perfectly, and the bright colors of the ingredients made it look a hundred times more appealing. I did find it a little too garlicky to my liking, but I know that my wife really enjoyed it and she would recommend it to others as well.
For dessert, we went with the sweet pea sorbet and the crémeux surrounded by passion fruit. We were so full after our two courses, that we weren’t going to order anything but reading the names made us feel hungry again and couldn’t resist. Let me say that these two dishes were probably one of the best tasting desserts I’ve tried and I’ve tried many.
In conclusion, the serving sizes were a good size and would fill you up. I do have to say that the prices are a bit high but are still worth it at the end. Make sure to come at a good time when you can see the beautiful lights glistening on the water outside. Overall, I do recommend the restaurant Oranjee to someone who wants a nice, romantic place to eat with his or her loved one.
