Just lovely. Lovely service, right on time dishes, a tidy little wine list. We had a fantastic meal and overall experience. Amongst the tourist traps, red lights, and bush league frite joints, sits Olivar. Not one complaint. Asked to speak with the chef about one of the dishes and he broke down every step of his process. Delicious and hospitable.

For some reason, the night we visited, one chef departed and they had one chef left and they had trouble putting food out. Six orders of 5 different kind of tapas + salad took over one hour to put out and the place was not crowded. We started with the Salad Granada which was presented nicely but nothing special. The rest of the tapas: MEJILLONES(Mussels) Dried out mussels, ok broth Not worth money or time waiting for it GAMBAS(Shrimp) These were ok. Shrimp was DRY as in OVERCOOKED POLLOOPORTO OK. Below expectations for sure. FRITATA Meh PATATASBRAVAS Fried potatoes came with three types of dip. They called it something fancy but the dips were essentially MAYO, MUSTARD and SPICYMAYO SERVICE: COLD and INDIFFERENT There are other places in the area that are more worthy of your time and money. I guess don’t order Spanish food when you are in Amsterdam. At least, NOTHERE.

Service to me is important, and the girls were quick and friendly. They served us boquerones(ok-ish), tortilla(nice), some skewers(cold but the meat was good), clams(i ate only one, just sayin’), smaller(meh) and big gamba’s(good!) and some salad and cured meat. Combined it all with 2 beers and two cappu’s the damage was about € 90. We considered to not pay for the flan, as we weren’t impressed. But greedy as we were and always will be we wanted flan and eat it too. Hence we did. Reluctantly. All in all it’s a nice place, nice interior, clean toilets. I think I will come back soon and try a main dish. Meanwhile if you have any tips, let me know, willing to try«everything»(yes brackets :))

I would come back to this place in a heartbeat. Everyone who works here is spanish. Super friendly staff. The tapas were some of the best I’ve ever had, even more than places in Madrid that I’ve been too. A bit on the pricey side but worth every penny if you want real genuine Spanish style tapas.

Best Spanish food outside of Spain, simply because the chef is from Madrid! Go there for delicious wine, fantastic service and amazing authentic Spanish food!!!

Really fresh, delicious tapas — not this greasy gross stuff that passes for tapas in Amsterdam — and delicious wines! As a vegetarian myself, I had enough options — not a crazy amount, but the kitchen staff were quite flexible and willing to help me choose. We were with quite a large group but the service was fast and very friendly. All in all a very delicious Spanish restaurant. I totally would recommend it and look forward to eating there again!
