We really liked George Deli. Like many others before me have said, they were out of the sandwich that I ordered, but they genuinely tried their best to make it up to us. In the end, I ended up having the club sandwich and I thought it was super delicious… very reminiscent of sandwiches back in the good ol’ U.S. of A. I would avoid coming here if you are in a rush, as the food prep. was quite slow. All in all, we thought it was a good value for the money and we’ll definitely return.

I have been here 3 times before I managed to actually eat here, due to them never having food available until their stated closing time. They always seem to run out of food or close the kitchen early. I succeeded on a recent Monday afternoon, when the restaurant was empty, so me, my husband, and 1 year old had the entire place to ourselves. The service was friendly, and they didn’t mind our daughter walking up and down the restaurant and sometimes pushing a chair in front of her while babbling at the waitstaff. The food was pretty brilliant, though. I ordered the eggs benedict because that is difficult to find in Amsterdam. It was a little pricey, and a little small, but it was perfect. The hollandaise sauce was perfectly balanced and not too lemony or vinegary, or blue-chees-y(!) like I have tasted in other places. I just wish it came with more sauce, and that it was a little bigger, since it was only 6 bites or so and it was all gone. I was super hungry, so I also stole a quarter of my husband’s club sandwich, which was also delicious. It came with thin slices of real chicken, not cold cuts, that were marinated in a nice Italian-type dressing, so the sandwich was dry on the outside and moist and flavorful on the inside. In addition I ordered the french onion soup, but that ended up being too much food. It was also delicious, and flavorful, but maybe a bit too salty. Instead of coming with bread pieces and a layer of cheese on top, it came with two slices of cheese bread on top whose bottoms were soaking in the soup, so they could get nice and squishy if you left them in there. The broth was very rich, so it could probably serve as a small meal in itself. We also tried out the milkshakes — orange and vanilla, and those were subtly flavored and refreshing. They were kind of small for the price, like everything else. It was very tempting to order another one, just so you could get half of what a ‘normal’ milkshake would be here, which is like a quarter of what an American milkshake normally consists of. Overall, this is one of those fancy european food places that nevertheless has decent service, and rare American breakfast foods, but the price is a little steep. I’d save it for special occasions when you’re feeling a little fancy.

Today I went to George Deli for the first time. The location is great, above the Marqt supermarket, in the middle of town at Rembrandtplein. At this square aren’t that many good lunch options so George Deli is welcome. All the tables are in a long row in front of the long bar/counter. The place looks very industrial because of the big and wide space and everything is very open, it’s cool. Reminds me of New York. George does an all-day breakfast but have a lot of lunch options, like sandwiches(you can also order half sandwiches) and salads, too. There are also a few warm dishes like spaghetti and burgers. Unlike I read in other, older reviews, the staff was very friendly and very quick. The food also arrived very fast. I had a cappuccino and eggs Florentine. The cappuccino was good and the eggs were delicious, though a bit pricey for 9 euros because the dish was very small. I have no complaints about the foods taste and service. Only thing is that the tables are very close to each other so if someone sits next to you, you don’t have much privacy. There are quite a lot of tables though so this does not always have to be the case.

i really want to like this place, i really do! But it’s just a-ok. Maybe i should try other things than just their breakfast egg items and i just might find something i like? i do like the décor of the place it just lacks a certain je né sais quoi? Location is great, right on top of Marqt.

Service is cringingly slow. Waiting over 40 minutes for a cheeseburger right now. Seems to be no manager. No soap or napkins in the toilets.

I met a friend here for brunch on a Saturday afternoon. When I saw George Deli U.S.A. I was just literally excited about the concept. There is no denying they lucked on a great location in the city. I simply adored the fact that there was a deli located just upstairs from the«Marqt» which I enjoy shopping. The clientele here is diverse and ranges from casual jeans to semi formal. What I appreciate about this deli is that it posses something a little bit more refine for meeting up for brunch or lunch in the center of Amsterdam. On a Saturday afternoon it is not always so easy to find a quaint and refine deli in this distinctive and charming city. Here you can expect breakfast, lunch or dinner. They have an extensive lunch menu of salads, sandwiches, soups and etc. Now if your craving a well deserved breakfast then I would suggest living it up with a glass of champagne and Eggs Benedict. On the corner of their breakfast menu you will find a small selection of French, American and English breakfast to please everyone’s taste buds.

Think Selfridges Food Hall, but for people who actually want to buy food. My only criticism is that they don’t accept cash. Oh, and also this quote on the homepage of their website is just silly: «This morning, I put myself unreservedly in the hands of espresso and croissant au beurre». Well I had a red bull and a sausage and egg McMuffin for breakfast and I’m McLovin’ it.
