This place just feels like history, and with good reason. It’s a bar that’s not actually a bar. It feels more like a restaurant but the only items available on the menu are beer and spirits. Friendly and knowledgeable staff are ready to help you select what you’d like to drink, whether you are a local or visiting from out of town. The selection of beer is mouth-watering. And I highly recommend trying some of the local-favorite Jenever(Dutch gin) here. Even the five year is delicious, and very affordable. Can’t wait to come back here the next time I visit the Dam.

Tripped across this pub wandering with friends through downtown. Absolutely my favorite drinking stop in Amsterdam. When we came in, on a weekday afternoon, we were the only occupants. The manager was more than willing to chat and joke around with us. He and a regular who walked in later filled us in on the history of the place, confirmed it was a true bruin bar by sliding one of the pictures to the side so we could see the un-browned wall behind, and wre very helpful in suggesting specific jenevers and other beverages.

Also known as De Engelse Reet. This is where I fell in love with Wieckse Rosé — a fruity wietbier. This pub is so cool, an authentic brown pub with sand on the floor. Nice tiny outdoor seating. Superfriendly staff. Everything is perfect here for a brew! They do not have the selection of craft or micro brews as the proeflokaalen but it is still a perfect choice.

Gemütlich sind ja viele Kneipen in Amsterdam Hier begeistert mich immer wieder die riesige Auswahl an Biersorten in Verbindung mit der gemütlichen Atmosphäre. Ein Ort zum laaaange Verweilen!

Want an authentic bruin bar(brown bar) in Amsterdam with a ridiculous beer selection and reasonable prices? Look no further, you’ve found it. There’s actually no bar in this place, it’s just a several hundred year old room with photos everywhere that has a dozen wood tables to sit. The server has a little room in the back where he’ll prepare your drink and bring it out. Cash only — they probably don’t even have a calculator back there, let alone a cash register. This place has so much character and authenticity that it makes McSorley’s in New York seem progressive.
