De Dampkring

Very quaint place. I was on a mission for a special space cake though. OMG the chocolate was fabulous. Just eat it in moderation. It’s no joke when they say you’ll have a party in your head if you eat the whole thing at once. Especially if you are not used to it. It was super tasty, it wasn’t anything like I’ve had before. I even questioned if it was real cake or special due to the fabulous flavor. After a while, it was special.

I can’t say enough about how awesome this place & its staff are. Whether you have 20 mins or an hour. Have a hot chocolate! TRUST ME. The smoke selection is wide and budtenders tips are very helpful. Plenty of drinks, shakes, smoothies and snacks! I dig the toasties & tea. Never too crowded. Even when full, heh! Just share a table & spark up a «conversation»! I managed to stop by every day I was here. If you’re lucky BOWIE, the cat, will bless your table with a snuggle.

Jeder der mal in den Niederlanden ist, spielt zumindest mal einen Moment mit dem Gedanken, ein «Coffeeshop» aufzusuchen. Ich stellte w´fest, das De Dampkring nur 3 Minuten von meinem Hotel entfernt war und machte mich somit auf zum very first coffeeshop experience.
Die MitarbeiterInnen waren sehr nett und hilfsbereit. An der Cannabis Bar arbeitete ein sympathischer ex Frankfurter, was die Kommunikation direkt einfacher machte. Die Beratung hinsichtlich der Wahl war sehr ehrlich und coo. Nach dem Kauf des Grases oder wahlweise einem fertiggedrehten Joint kann man sich an ein Tisch oder an die Bar setzen, die witzige nette Bardame hat beim drehen geholfen. Als ich fertig war, servierte mir einfach so eine reisen Portion Eis, was den Abend perfekt machte. Ich ging glücklich nach hause, um am nächsten Tag kurz zurückzukehren, um mal einen Muffin zu probieren, der auch köstlich schmeckte.
Interessanterweise wurde in der Bar eine Szene von Ocean’12 gedreht.
Wer für seinen coffeeshop-​Erlebnis eine seriöse Beratung in angenehmer Atmosphäre möchte, sollte womöglich De Dampkring in Erwägung ziehen.

Loved this place the ppl, décor, cakes, herbs and the cat! I went with a person who just wanted to try herb (not a smoker), which I do not recommend, this is a place I’d say for veteran smokers (the newbie was kind of annoying lol) it’s very chill with mellow happy vibes. I am definitely coming back with my sisters. I went to a few coffee shops in the area & this one was my favorite by far!

barmaid terrible — just gave her 50 euros bill (receipt was 13 euros) and gave us back 5 euros
we told her that we were short on money — it wasn’t s 20 euros bill .
She gave us huge attitude and got upset after us .
we were more than nice. she throw the bills at us on the counter .she probably thought we won’t pay attention … we were there just for the ambiance and mint tea … not for being high and being ripped off .
what a nice customer service… NOT. She needs to change job, if she’s so unhappy or take some accounting classes .
Make sure you give small change or coins.

De Dampkring is one of the best coffeshop in Amsterdam and they have really nice Milkshakes as well. Famouse place thanks to the movie Ocean’s Eleven and Bowie the cat. The interior style kind of reminded me of Gaudi.

Everyone was pretty chill. Its a no frill, hassle free environment. Ordered the house coffee was good.

I came here after my boyfriend told me this was the best coffee shop in Amsterdam, having visited it previously with his older brother. It was around 9 or 10 at night, and upon entering, was surrounded by an orange glow and happy energy. The inside of the shop is very lively, you can order different coffees and teas and special cakes. We met some people from Spain; and they thought that the section where you can purchase weed was the DJ booth– I’ll have to admit it did look like a CD section where you can pick different types of loud! We got some Fire Alien Romulan, and some Nepalese Cream, both of which did their job. The chart they have for the different strengths is subjective to how you want it to be. There were two types of cake available– Lemon Rainbow level 1 or Nutella Brownie Level 2. We got the Lemon Rainbow to try it out. The only thing I didn’t like was that the girl who was working there was very disrespectful to me. I waited for 20 minutes to order some tea and ended up talking to some people instead. When she saw me, she said ‘hey yourself’ and went into the back room swearing and complaining and who knows what. Overall, would come again next time in Amsterdam!

A great coffee shop stop! Friendly budtenders & baristas, delicious white chocolate raspberry shake and good variety of the good good :)

The «coffee» here was really weird, but I loved it. It’s served in an almost cigarette-​like dispenser and people were puffing away on those little shot glasses of pre-​grinded «coffee» like there was marijuana or something in them. I didn’t try any, but from the look on everyone’s faces it was some of the best «coffee» around.
I got pretty thirsty after about a half hour of being around other people drinking «coffee» so I ordered a kiwi strawberry smoothie. It was one of the most flavorful I’ve ever had in my life.
The people working at Dampkring were really friendly and that «coffee» menu is the most sophisticated you’ll ever see. It breaks down the smell, taste, and buzz of the «coffee» unlike I’ve ever seen, and once «coffee» becomes legal in my country or state or county or whatever I’m definitely gonna come back to De Dampkring and try some of it.

If you are looking for a coffee shop with a happy, chatty buzz instead of dead-​eyed zombies sitting in silence, this is the place. Drinks are good, staff is amazing and knowledgeable, and THERE IS A CAT NAMED BOWIE, who appears to be perpetually stoned.

Do you remember that scene in Ocean’s Twelve where Matt Damon, George Clooney, and Brad Pitt sit in a coffee shop in Amsterdam and have a conversation that came across as gibberish to some, genius to others?
That was De Dampkring.
While I found the Ocean’s Twelve memorabilia a bit out of place at the actual coffee shop, the service was warm, friendly, and helpful for those with questions. I didn’t get the same vibe as one of the other Unilocalers who commented on the aggressive security. This coffee shop is surprisingly small considering its popularity. They had an interesting selection of tea but I opted for the delicious hot Belgian chocolate when I went.
I hear their selection of herbal therapy in baked form is amongst the most delicious.

Helpful staff. One drink minimum to sit at the bar. There’s a cat.

I found this place online because I wanted to try a special cake, because I’ve never had one before. When we walked in, the first thing I noticed was the cat. The cat was on the bar, staring off into space, and smiling. Smiling! Yes, grinning ear-​to-​ear like the Cheshire Cat. Weird.
They have a extensive selection of teas, and I asked the waitress for her recommendation. She suggested the Sencha cactus fig green tea. With cactus, fig, melon, papaya, pineapple and mango pieces, sunflower and cornflour, it was a naturally sweet green tea… but it didn’t stop me from adding a packet of honey! So delicious, very refreshing, and smelled great!
The Rooibos African orange tea was also awesome – a tasty mix of rooibos, honeybus, orange peel and orange flower. I love their presentation of loose-​leaf tea in a little tray that you let steep in the hot water yourself. Served with a yummy little caramel biscuit and little packets of sugar and honey (which I loved sucking straight from the package), the teas were as beautiful as they were delicious.
The special cake was absolutely scrumptious, too! At first, I was a bit miffed when it came in a sealed package. I thought it would have been baked fresh, but it looked like something that came from a factory. But when I opened it up and pulled it out, the marble cake was moist and fragrant with a fantastic chocolate and vanilla flavor.
I like how the package had instructions on the back so we would know what to expect. It said not to mix with anything else (like smoking or drinking), and the effects wouldn’t occur for about an hour. So I kept checking my watch after eating the cake, and lo and behold – right on cue – I started feeling something after about an hour. LOL.
WARNING: I only ate half of the cake, and it hit me pretty hard. If I were to ever try this again, I would probably only eat ¼ next time. It’s kind of pricey though, so now that my curiosity’s been satisfied, I dunno if I’ll ever get this again.
The interior décor is pleasant and cheery and probably had the best atmosphere of any coffeeshop I’ve ever been to. Not that I’ve been to that many of them, but I liked the chill atmosphere and looking at the bright orange décor and large picture from the Ocean’s 12 movie hanging overhead.

TO much noise over nothing i would say… Ok it is the famous coffee shop that oceans 12 was shot but that’s all in my opinion
In essence it is just a coffee shop and pretty small to be honest. To be honest i did not feel very comfortable since there were so much security going around monitoring everything we did. Maybe i am a bit extreme since i did try their weed which was ok but i did get scold for getting a chair and not sitting on it (was talking to a friend at a time) form a security guy

If you sell weed and provide drinks for your patrons, does that constitute five stars?
Not sure how since Amsterdam is crawling with coffee shops that offer the SAME THING!
I can tell you more about this place. They have rules about wear you can sit (ongezellig), the staff is awkward and probably irritated from tourists (ongezellig), you have to order a drink if you smoke (ongezellig).
Unfortunately, I mainly go with friends who smoke so as a non-​high person, I can tell you there are plenty of better coffee shops in Amsterdam and even in the area. Isn’t the point to have a nice gezellig time while smoking?!
The name says it all though because the atmosphere and people here are damp.

I didn’t get the chance to sit down and relax here, although the ambience was very inviting.
Basically did take-​out quite a few times over my short stay in Amsterdam. The selection is good. The staff are very helpful in explaining the various products. The quality is unrivalled… a lot of the cafes closer to Central can’t touch this place.

The place is great, but the staff is not. We sat and listened to the waitress spend 20 minutes chatting with and taking photos of the group of Italian tourists behind us, but when I finally got her attention and asked a question, she responded, «What, you’re so lazy you can’t look at the menu yourself?» and grabbed a menu from the bar for me. When she came back to ask if we were getting anything, I said, «I’m not spending my money here, you were rude.» She then seemed to be offended that I called her rude and talked to her boss, whose excuse was, «We’re really busy.»
The totally unprompted rudeness and argument made everyone in my party uncomfortable and we soon left.

This place has gone way down hill. The tree is gone and now only pics of the owner with George clooney and Matt Damon hang up. The weed is decent but the atmosphere stinks now. I bought a joint from their bar and then was informed if i wanted to smoke it there that i had to buy a $ 3 coffee as well. I just bought weed and I can’t even smoke it?
The bar tender tells me they are a small shop but it was also an empty shop. So I told the bartender we would go somewhere else and he proceeds to try and lecture me how it’s illegal for Americans to smoke outside coffee shops.
Additionally they don’t mark their mixed joints as mixed so I was even further upset to find tobacco in my joint. All other shops clearly mark their pure vs mixed joints.
No more dampkring. Too bad we can’t go back 10 years when this was the place

Great atmosphere! Great service! Great goods! Great selection! Great options! Great theme! Great setup! Just goddam great!!!

When I was there, I got a chocolate mousse brownie — delightful. And actually unbelievably tasty!
It’s been quite a few years since I’ve been there, so now that Ocean’s 12 has been shot there, I bet it’s more expensive and more touristy, than when I went. Regardless, I would go again! It was a great, chill spot, that I absolutely recommend!!!

After hopping around the city, I remember we stumbled across Dampkring by accident. We walked in and found a place to sit right away. All I must say is I remember ordering a Mango Looza and a large piece packed with some stuff that knocked me off my feet! I remember having to go outside for some air every so often. Needless to say I think that I can spend all day in this place.
It may get a little crowed, but the quality, décor, friendly staff and music make it worth the stay. BEWARE OF THE SPACE CAKES

Un coffee shop culte !
Excellent coffee shop situé en plein centre d’Amsterdam qui attire d’ailleurs énormément de jeunes et de touristes — vraisemblablement suite à la scèné culte du film «Ocean’s Twelve » ! La devanture est un peu sombre mais ça change totalement une fois à l’intérieur car le décor est totalement psychédélique (grosses lampes en verre orange, murs aux couleurs flashy…) ! L’ambiance est plutôt cool, le personnel souriant, les consos pas excessives, les jus frais ont l’air plutôt bons, le chocolat chaud est servi de façon originale… Quant au «matos «il est servi en arrière-​boutique, et il y a du choix ! Mention spéciale pour la White Russian ;-)

Cet endroit est célèbre pour avoir été utilisé comme lieu de tournage pour Ocean 13 mais bon… ca on s’en fout si je peux me permettre.
Il est plutôt célèbre pour ses méthodes de détente. Il propose plusieurs produits relaxant et les prix, d’après mes amis connaisseurs, sont corrects. Le décor va avec et l’ambiance est tamisée par un rouge qui repose les yeux et l’esprit. Suivez les conseils des connaisseurs (ils sont nombreux dans ce coffee) et vous comprendrez pourquoi les hollandais sont très zens.
Bön le service est un peu sauvage et pas du tout accueillant mais bon ca aussi on s’en fout je pense.
En sortant de la, si vous avez les yeux rouges, pas de panique, c’est dû aux néons rouges qu’il utilise, ca partira après une heure ou deux à condition de né pas rester trop longtemps et n’hésiter pas à forcer la main à ceux qui veulent camper sinon le week end «visite d’Amsterdam» partira en fumée ^_^

Uno de los muchos coffee shops que podemos encontrar dentro de la ciudad de Amsterdam, se ha hecho bastante famoso desde que se rodaron en el algunas escenas de la película Ocean’s Twelve.
Está un poco menos masificado que los demás ya que está un poco escondido y no es fácil dar con el ya que no está dentor de las calles más tipicas del barrio rojo.
Tiene una decoración con bastante gusto y dentro de él podemos ver de forma ininterrumpida en los monitores de televisión las escenas que se rodaron en él donde aparecen Brad Pitt y George Clooney tomando un café.
También nos podremos encontrar un huesped muy especial que es el un gato que siempre está en el local, la mayoría de las veces en estado bastante relajado, será por los vapores del lugar jejejeje. Pero es curioso verle como se tambalea moviendose entre las mesas y sillas del lugar.

tres tres bonne adresse, faut juste pas etre pressé d’etre servi. mais quel décor. quelques photos de brad pitt et georges clooney, qui manifestement sont sortis plutot joyeux.lol.

Un coffee shop inévitable
Entrez et posez vous 2 min, décors dans le ton, tres large choix à la carte (dites moi des nouvelles de la NYC diesel), l’ambiance y est bonne enfant, des connaisseurs des 4 coins s’y rejoignent pour apprecier un bon petard avec de délicieux jus de fruits…

Le meilleur
Ce coffee est situé en centre ville. Sa façade est psychédélique tout comme sa décoration intérieure… j’adore… ! Les employés sont très sympas… les boissons sont abordables ! Et maintenant vous pouvez déguster l’herbe Ocean’s twelve ! A faire absolument car loin d’être touristique… ce lieu est très convivial.

La meilleure Jamaïcaine de Amsterdam!
Un coffee shop très sympa pour son acceuil, assez chaleureux. Un large choix de Beuhs et de Haschishs dont la Jamaïcaine est inoubliable! Un décor qui rappelle les cafés égyptiens de la rue Mouffetard à Paris. Commandez un jus d’orange pressé avec un petit joint de Jamaïcaine et vous serez aux anges…
