An absolutely brilliant experience. The food is fantastic, the staff are extremely friendly, the location is near central yet not so close the place is over crowded. It feels like a more local spot than a touristy place which was a nice escape. The café itself is also really nice, décor is pleasing and there is also and upstairs seating area alongside the ground and lower level. Highly recommend the French toast, and he Dutch breakfast, the coffee is also very good. My favourite place in Amsterdam.

We stopped for scones and tea. Slow service, decent scones, but amazing guayaba jam! If they had sold it in smaller, airport-friendly containers, I would have bought a handful home. Also, interesting orange, spicy hot chocolate.

One of my favorite breakfast joints in Europe. I would die to have one of these in my home town. I love everything about Bakkerswinkel… When you walk in on a cold morning, the smell of freshly baked pastries and comfort food drifts through your head. You feel as though you’ve been invited into a friend’s house for breakfast. The space is warm, homey and bright. We usually get there early, so they let you choose where you want to sit. They have tables and banquets, as well as community style bench seating. For those of us who don’t speak or read Dutch, flip the menu over to the English side to peruse their breakfast/lunch faire. My favorites: Quiche with Leek & Goat Cheese served with an ample side salad; or for something sweet, Scone, Bread, Butter & Jam… the Dutch breakfast is fun… you also get gingerbread, chocolate sprinkles and cheese! My husband loves the toast with fried eggs and cheese… I like them too. But I like the quiche more. Breakfast is served with coffee/tea and fresh orange juice. …now let me tell you something about their jam. It’s home made. They give you a selection of jams to choose from and they are out of this world. My personal favorite is the Passionfruit. I loved it so much I bought a jar to take home and we ended up eating it all before we departed the city. Their lunches are equally unique, comforting and consistently outstanding. Everything is made there. The service is always friendly… of course it is. They’re Dutch.

Perfect spot to brunch in the center of Amsterdam! The place is really cool and quite big. We made a reservation for four persons at 10.30 on a saturday morning. At this time the spot wasn’t that crowded already, but towards 11 am the café got filled really fast. So make sure to be there on time or to call them quickly or to make a reservation. We had the Baker’s Breakfast with a croissant, some sourdough bread, white bread, a fruity bread and an italian one. It was more than enough. This breakfast is served with ham, cheese and three different jams. Each breakfast is served with a coffee/tea or an orange juice/fruitshake. The ham is really fresh and tasty! The cheese is great as well and OHMYGODTHEJAMS!!! I loved them! Especially the one with basil in it! Soooooooo yummy! You should buy a glass of it! The service was perfect! Friendly and attentive. We asked for a cooler for the cava — they didn’t have one, so our waiter told us to wait a moment and then came back with a bowl with icecoldwater in it, perfect! The café is situated just in the centre, in a street running parallel the main shopping street. It’s quite fancy and has a smaller level downstairs, some places at the ground floor and some more upstairs in the gallery, from where you can see downstairs.

Amazing coffee and amazing food! I got the double Caffè latte and the French Toast breakfast. I am from the US so I expected the toast to be overly sweet and rich but it was light and delicate and I had no problem finishing it. Also, the coffee was included in the price of the breakfast. Fast service in a relaxing atmosphere. I would and probably will go here again.

This is a nice and cozy little spot for brunch or lunch! The main dining room gets lovely sunlight from the skylights and the large rustic communal table adds a very congenial feel. The quiche lorraine is fabulous and I also greatly enjoyed the fried eggs and cheese on toast. What a great little escape from the crazy hoards of tourists!

Good breakfast or brunch spot. Charming, open and airy atmosphere. Nice communal feel. The morning menu is heavy on local(?) specialties — meaning lots of breads, carbs, cheese. There’s a decent selection of egg-based breakfast foods below the breads. The bacon, egg and cheese meal was fine. Coffee was pleasant. I’d eat here again and would take my family. That said, my experience is similar to Diana H’s review. The service was so inattentive, even by Amsterdam standards, that I felt completely ignored after being seated. Forget about having your coffee topped off. I was also surprised that two waitstaff stood over a customer’s fallen jacket and neither reached down to the floor to pick it up(so I took the initiative and returned her jacket to a chair). I had plenty of time to observe that in a subsequent rush of customers, the line piled up right inside the door in a very crowded and inefficient way given the blustery elements outside. A colleague had warned me ahead of time that Dutch waitstaff tend to ignore customers(visitors?), which is perhaps just a cultural difference from, say, North America…

Excellent place for breakfast and lunch, their bakery and jams are unparalleled. I’d give a 5 star rating if it wasn’t for the extremely slow seating process. There is nothing more annoying than waiting to be seated when there are obviously free tables available + it feels like they are understaffed.

This restaurant saved us after an extreme Amsterdam night! The breakfast was unbelievably yummy(bread with eggs, bacon, & cheese) and the scones with raspberry jam were out of this world. Definitely stop in for brunch or even just a quick scone with coffee. Yum!

I’m giving 3 stars because I like their goodies so much and the ambiance is very original and hard to find elsewhere for Amsterdam. The service however is quite poor. I’ve had times where me and my friend were waiting at the counter without being welcomed for minutes. Then when I asked for the staff’s attention I got a very annoyed answer that they are full. No indication of how long the wait is, not offering to reserve a spot for later, nothing! I remember walking out once cause I didn’t feel they deserve my money. But like I said: the food is good and the ambiance rare. So I kept coming back every now and then. I’ve had lunch and high teas here, all very tasty. It’s a perfect spot for a date with some girlfriends. The experience could be even better if the service was better. I don’t like the way you’re welcomed to the restaurant. When it’s busy you’ll be waiting in the front and the more people are coming in, the more cramped it is. In the meantime you can look straight into the restaurant and see people eating. And on top of that you’re standing next to a counter with all types of sweets, breads and rolls. This place does quite well, so my idea is you could at least offer waiting customers a sample of something to taste and take their minds of the fact that they’re waiting.

This location was previously closed for renovations and has recently reopened. It is a great place for breakfast or to just sit down and relax. I highly recommend their delicious scones — available in savory or sweet. Savory is served with cream cheese and sweet is served with clotted cream and jam. They are buttery and so perfect with a cup of coffee/tea.

Frische, selbstgebackene Brötchen, selbst hergestellte Marmelade, leckerer Kaffee was will man mehr?

Great place for breakfast! All sorts of home-made bread and marmelade(such as pineapple with lemon and basil!). I had Wentelteefjes which is a french toast(or Arme Ritter in German) made from fresh brioche. Delicious!!! Cosy atmosphere. A bit like sitting at home at the kitchen table with friends. Check the website for the correct location and other locations in Amsterdam as well as other cities in the Netherlands! The restaurant is currently at Zeedijk 37. which is close to the original location. It will move back to the old place at Warmoesstraat 69 end of 2012 after refurbishment.

This branch is in the more touristy area of Amsterdam and does it’s job very well. Food is fresh and very, very tasty. Décor is cosy and eclectic and you’ll be able to relax over a meal or a light snack. I quickly became addicted to their caramel and walnut tart and admit to eating my way through 4 slices in only three visits… Yip, that good. This is a rich concoction of gooey caramel on top of a shortbread base(with a few walnuts floating in the caramel). Friendly staff round things off nicely. Try their other branch in Westergasfabriek too as it’s set in a beautiful building and the area is well worth the visit and surprisingly close to Centraal station. Did I mention that you can buy goodies to take away with you?

I love this place! Delicious all over! Also one of the only places in Amsterdam(affordable) were you can acutally have a typically English high tea. Ok, its not the same, but the concept is similar. The scones are something totally different(how come theyre named scones?) but the clotted cream and homemade marmelade is extremely tasty! Ofcourse we ate way too much, and had to sit down for a least an hour before moving. Not a problem though; the interior is really cute with long wooden tables, big chairs right from the livingroom, housecats(they were mean!!!), great service, and last but not least… the smell is delicious! Freshly made bread and pies all day! There is also one near the museumquarter, at the Roelof Hartstraat 68, and at the Westergasfabriek(Amsterdam-West). These are both smaller and located in a less touristic area.

Nett gestaltete Karte! Und normale Preise!
