Coffee Company

This was me first and most likely last visit to Coffee Company. Amsterdam houses so many greated places to get great coffee that, if the best of Coffee Company can’t impress, then why go there at all? It’s not bad, at all. There’s just so many other places in Amsterdam that are better.
I had a flat white, which was reasonable; a bit too hot and the coffee at bit boring and too sharp, as well as a bit too bitter, but otherwise better than many other chain stores that I’ve come across. The flat white is served in two sizes. What’s up with that? Seriously, a flat white might not be the same to all of us, but a big flat white, that’s just not right!
The aeropress coffee was quite okay, but a bit too woody for my taste. I have had better filter coffee in Amsterdam. Here they actually have different options for filter coffee, but not all the personale can help you with even simple questions about the coffee, though others can, and do it quite well. It’s a shame. It counteracts what they’re otherwise trying to do here.
Coffee Company roast, at least some of, their coffee here. They have a rather big Giesen roaster sitting in the middle of the room. You then have the option of sitting around and watching the roasting or find a seat further away from the roaster. I would suggest to find a seat further away. Contrary to what most might tell you, roasting coffee doesn’t smell good. What you most likely associate with fresh coffee is the smell of coffee that is at least a few hours «old».

I pass by this place quite frequently, but I never knew it was a Coffee Company due to the placement of the sign. Anyway, I was a bit disappointed that this location strictly serves coffee drinks (coffee, lattes, etc.) but none of their other drinks like chai lattes. I was also saddened that they literally carry one or two types of pastries, and one of the cakes was covered in little flies… ewwwww! However, they roast coffee here and the roasters are visible for customers to see, which is unique. I will come back for the coffee tastings that they offer here, but not if I’m looking for an afternoon sugar boost.
