Good beer, not much for snacks though. Service is at the bar and there is smoking everywhere outside. Beer is a euro cheaper by the glass vs at a restaurant, I’d rather enjoy this beers with a good meal. So yeah, come for a beer if you have the time, otherwise, enjoy the beer elsewhere.

This tourist haunt is famous because it is in a windmill which is only only a half truth since it is located in a side wing. It is also known for tasty beer — that’s a full truth — I enjoyed the sampler. Pricey at 9 euro for 5 very small beers but good. It paired nicely with the combi — half a sausage and a bowl of cheese — again pricy at 6 euro. All in all it was a fun splurge of a snack stop.

English tours are held Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 3:30. Tickets are 5 Euros and it includes a beer of your choice. You can’t purchase tickets online so I would suggest you get there early on the day of the tour as it is first come, first serve, and their tours have a max of 20. We got there at around 1 and there were still tickets available. We decided to get a flight of some of their beers and order some snacks. We had the dried sausage and the raw sausage(it’s been cured). I was hesitant about the raw sausage at first but I actually really liked it! It reminded me of a salty version of beef tartare. I could have done without the dried sausage. The texture was too hard, which made it really difficult to eat. If you’ve tried the food and beer, and you still need more ways to kill time, there’s plenty of chances for photo ops outside with the windmill(which, by the way has no relation to the brewery)! Even if you don’t get a chance to take the tour(which was alright), the brewery itself is definitely worth checking out.

Short bike ride from the city center with a route that winds along a pleasant path away from the mayhem toward the landmark windmill. My friends enjoyed the sampler and I liked my beer. You can explore what’s on tap while still knowing what to expect because of useful descriptions and bartenders. There were plenty of Dutch enjoying an early start to their weekend and some friendly tourists from Israel and other parts of Europe. Check it out!

Great beers, friendly bartender, lots of tables to choose from. Pairing with the meat and cheese was something I really enjoyed. One of my favorite stops during the few days I was in Amsterdam.

Best Amsterdam beer for locals and tourists! I guess this is one of my favorite hangout with my friends to drink Amsterdam special beers with funny names. And every time they brew another extra new beer. Now there’s a beer with coffee in it, my favorite! Just order you’re drinks at the bar. In the corner you can order typical Dutch good snacks: cheese, grilled sausage from the grill, ossenworst, dry sausage and don’t forget cooked eggs. Try the parsley salt, amazing! It’s just restyled, bigger and more seats. Looks good! Outside there’s a huge terrace with only sun. I still didn’t do the tour, that one still is on my bucketlist! After drinking you can buy a shirt as you’re new souvenir, a beer brewery to remember. Great atmosphere!

A brewery under a windmill. What more can I ask for? This is a great place to bring your friends to just hang out for a couple of yummy beers, and maybe have a cheese plate or two. Oh, and don’t forget the sausage. They have lots of seating and chill vibes all around. Especially when it’s nice out, this is the place to be.

One of the best places to tasty an awesome beer. Good people, good place and unbelievable beer. It is not close to the center of Amsterdam, but it is really worthy.

I came here as a recommendation of a friend who loves drinking and having a good time. I was pleasantly surprised by how peaceful it was there. You can sit at long tables outside(good for groups) or sit indoors if it is too cold or rainy outside. They are open every single day, no matter what! That said, it’s only open from like 2pm to 8pm, so it is best to go for some day-drinking. They have a solid selection of beer to choose from(only beer, sorry!) and for a good price. The beers have much more flavor and pack more of a punch than say, Heineken – haha. They also serve small cheese and meat plates. I didn’t try these, but it’s the only food items they serve. It’s all good though, because they have a dope windmill outside that tourists like me enjoy. Come here if you like relaxing with a few higher quality beers and windmills!

We were here on a saturday afternoon and luckily got one of the last seats inside. Outside it was packed even more. So the noise level at this place is really high. You literally have to scream to talk with your neighbor. The place is self-service. We had the tasting paddle, so you get 5 different beers in 5 glasses of 1dl. Unfortunately you don’t know which beer is which one on the menu. They just told us, it starts from the left to the right with the weakest one. So the last one on the right was a really strong one with like 9 vol %. I could hardly drank that one, it wasn’t my cup of tea(or beer in that case;)). They also have some sausage and cheese to order with your beer. All told, it’s a nice spot to taste some locally brewed beers in Amsterdam.

It’s a brewery. In a windmill. With sausages. And cheese. And great beer. :) The outdoor seating is nice, so are the barstools around the many taps in the center. It was fun to do a sampler to taste the whole range of beers they make. I was surprised at the hoppiness of a few of them, very northwest style IPA. My favorite is still IJWIT.

The best place I visited during my 24 hour layover !!! The outdoor bench seating allows for you to mingle with other tourists and locals while bonding over their amazing in house brewed beer, while awing at the fact that you are drinking authentic freshly brewed beer in an old windmill. This place is a right of passage when you come to Amsterdam. Where else will you be able to sip beer in a windmill? Not only is the beer extremely cheap and tasty, the light bite selections are delectable. We had the cheese platter and the raw sausage. Both were unbelievable. Being a first time visitor to Amsterdam, they gave me a great first impression. I cannot wait to come back!

So you rock up in Amsterdam. You want to see a windmill? Tick. You want to drink some local beers? Tick. You want… a Hungarian hotdog? Maybe not, but that also gets a tick(on some days anyway). Brouwerij’t IJ is a small craft brewery located inside a windmill on the outskirts of the city of Amsterdam city that although ticks all the tourist boxes, is also filled with locals enjoying a beverage or two at the plentiful outdoor tables. You can get a tasting paddle of beers and move on from there, and there is a small snack menu available every day. We came on a day when they had a hot dog stand, and they were delicious. If you are feeling particularly active, you can also join in on a brewery tour which seemed to be running fairly frequently while we were there

Brewery is out of the way, but Unilocal reviews pushed me into coming here. Favorite thing about this place is the vibe. Met some great people, and good to chillax’ while it rained buckets outside. Beers: Beer flight provides chance to try 5 of 7 beers. All of them sure beat the other commercialized in town! Zummerblonde is not available in tasting size but is definitely. Food: No main entrees, but cheese and sausage small plates are available. Did not try but others liked it. Bonus: Get to see a real Dutch windmill and get your drink on at the same time. Bottom Line: Make the trip here. Worth picking over the alternate overly commercialized experience.

This place lived up to the reviews and then some. My girlfriend and I went at opening on a Monday, and it was very full, but wait times were actually not long at all. The beer is amazing, and holy gum balls does it taste amazing with the meat and grilled sausage. Something tells me we will be back. The natte beer is double brewed and probably the best I’ve ever had. It’s a must.

I had heard so much of this place both from friends and Unilocalers. I don’t believe the hype. Local brewery with their own brews on tap — that is great. But unfortunately, the beers didn’t appeal to me. If you love Belgian/Dutch style you might enjoy ‘t IJ. They have a great raspberry brew though — try that one! It is EASY to find bars that serves other beer than your usual Heineken — just search Unilocal.Either go for local Dutch, Belgian or worldwide — just take a pick. If you are in the neighbour hood — fine but I would walk the extra mile if I don’t just love Belgian style. Outdoor seating in the sun. Share tables with strangers. On a sunny Friday they were already full at 3 pm when we arrived. Bring cash They weren’t very keen on accepting cards when only buying two beers at a time.

It’s quite nice to find a local brewery in Amsterdam. A lot of the beer served at bars and pubs in Amsterdam is either Heineken or Belgian beer. Therefore finding this place gave us an opportunity to sample some Dutch beer. The place is rather big. There’s a lot of seats inside, and even more outside. It’s definately an afternoon kind of thing, with opening hours from 2 in the afternoon till 8 in the evening. Which is really affects the atmosphere; a very down-to-earth with a bit of family-outing feel to it. There’s a long range of different beers to choose from and with different style. All in all I thought most were a tad too boring. The most interesting being the Himbeer — an imitation of a Belgian kriek with raspberries.

It was a very nice spring Saturday, which packed this place to the gils. I don’t mind waiting 15 minutes in line for a few beers, but I don’t like getting yelled at by a cranky bartender because he didn’t understand the order. They speak perfect english, so I would expect them to understand it as well. The beer is great, reasonably priced, and the food is fantastic for bar snacks. We enjoyed the sausage, particularly the warm house sausage and the cheese wasn’t bad either. It’s a cool place to visit, take some photos and grab a few beers. A tip if it happens to be too crowded for your taste: grab a few bottles to go(they’re very cheap) and head around the corner to the canal and drink them.

My new favorite Belgian brewery. I hope to see your stuff in the SU someday! The brewery is located inside of an abandoned windmill, a massive one. The place is packed with local’s non-stop as it is popular but not near the touristy areas in Amsterdam. Beers are excellent and they do have a tasting option.

My favorite place in Amsterdam! Not only you get to drink at an authentic Dutch windmill, you will definitely enjoy some of the BEST beers in Amsterdam. My favorites include: –Zatte –IPA –Ijwit Sometimes they have amazing seasonal beers too. They don’t sell food other than cheese, dry sausage and hard-boiled eggs. It’s just a place to drink beer with friends. And if you don’t know what to order, you can get a beer sampler! A set of 4 different mini beers. Also, don’t forget to buy a T-Shirt
