Super cool space, and love the outdoor seating area right on the square. The space inside is nice, but a little bit cramped. Nice bites menu and it’s a great spot to meet someone after work for a drink and some nibbles before heading home. The service isn’t that great, and I know people same that’s just Amsterdam, but it’s not. I rarely have a service issue in this city. I think the vibe could really be changed with some friendly faces and service. Cool space, but it’s obvious that something is lacking. Oh and yes, as in some bars and restaurants in Amsterdam, there is a cat. Not sure why this is a thing, but as someone allergic to cats, I probably won’t be back.

A land mark in the west! This café in mercatorplein really stands out because of it’s crazy design. The inside is very cosy with a central fireplace and an open kitchen. They change the menu often, mostly it’s uncomplicated comfort food with the occasional twist on a classic(marrocan tomato soup) Their wine menu is more elaborated that their beer menu as they mostly have the addict Dutch brands. In the summer every Sunday they live music ranging from Jazz to old Dutch classics!

Interesting décor with a lovely open kitchen — and a restaurant cat as a bonus! The beer selection is limited but the food is well done. Started with a fantastic tomato soup. We also got the burger which was pretty good, a little sloppy. I also got a large salad with chicken which was very nice but came with some large dry bread that weren’t great. We had a really nice meal here and would recommend it if you’re in the area.

Excellent food. Very hip venue and great service. Breakfast and brunch is always a pleasure here. Will be back on warmer days to eat on their extensive terrace.

I live right across of Mercatorplein, so it’s a nice place to go out for an easy dinner or have a quick drink. The menu is good and the food is well cooked. What I don’t like is the staff. They seem busy even when it’s not crowded, it’s hard to get their attention and it just doesn’t feel friendly. My favorite: the cheesecake. But: order it during lunch. You just get the cheesecake, which is perfect. Salty crust, creamy cheesecake and sweet and sour on top. Sheer perfection. At dinner they serve it with whipped cream, a chocolate thingie and some yellow fruit jelly or something. All those elements add nothing to the dish and take the attention away from what should be just an amazing piece of Holtkamp’s cheesecake. Oh! Order fries on the side. Lovely! And there’s a special treat in the bathroom for all you cat lovers.

Nice place and good food. If the weather is nice, sitting outside is the best option! The tap beer isn’t the best, but he atmosphere is very close to be! I’ve tried different dishes(mainly hamburgers) and they are ok, although they have dropped the quality a bit.

Cozy terras on Mercatorplein which looks really nice and even had a spot left outside on a hot Friday afternoon. I had a great time here and the place looks great too. I would have given four stars if the ‘borrelhapjes’ were just a little bit tastier. They lacked that something to make them memorable.

I only came living in this neighbourhood when they had already started renovating the square(Mercatorplein) so I can’t say what it was like a few years ago, but what I’ve heard it was pretty bad. The square renovation has done the whole neighbourhood a lot of good. And Zurich also plays a nice part. The strangely(I’m not a fan) shaped mushroom like building is actually quite cozy inside. In the winter they have a fireplace on and you can sit around it. When the weather is nice the terrace starts to get a good number of visitors. And strangely enough it’s one of the few ‘larger’ outside terraces in Amsterdam where you don’t have to wait too long to be served and whatever you ordered to arrive. If its a bit windy you can sit next to glass fences that indicate the perimeter or the terrace. The food is nice enough. A nice place for a drink outside with friends, or by yourself watching the fountains and children playing in them. The customer base is very mixed, just like the neighbourhood.

Super café in Amsterdam, with a really nice terrace for the sunny days and a cosy chimney inside to warm up during rainy day. The design of the café can seems strange at first glance, but inside with its round room, you feel really protected, a bit like in a yurt! They propose really nice sandwich for lunch time. But dinner is not the best, a bit expensive for what it is. A place to try definitely and a good time to explore an other area of Amsterdam!

I set the tea sampler box on fire(by accident, I swear, I put it too close to the candle on my table) and they didn’t kick me out. Seriously though, fires aside, the place has friendly service, decent prices and an expansive patio on the square there. It’s a good place to stop before or after a trip to Rembrandt Park. And even though it’s a bit of a lounge/bar on weekend evenings, it’s very kid friendly during the day. They have some toys, coloring books, etc.
