Small place with big burgers.
If you are a tourist looking for a nice place to eat, avoid Leidseplein and its tourist traps. BURGERmeester is really close and you will find great burgers for a reasonably price. And if you are not a tourist, you should go too!
The service is good, the prices are ok, and the burgers are glorious. The only think I did not like was that they don’t serve french fries, but you can enjoy a really good baked potato.

Great service and even better burgers; cooked perfectly with really fresh ingredients. I had the Cheeseburger (and added jalapeños) and my husband had the Meester Bief. I think I ate it faster than I’ve ever eaten a burger before! Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a quick, delicious bite. They do offer a couple lighter sides but no fries. At first I was disappointed but the burger was huge and I don’t think I could have eaten any fries even if we’d ordered them! Will probably be back during our trip!

I love any organic/​bio/​free range/​grassfed food options. This place has tasty burgers — I like the Royaal Cheeseburger with egg, truffle, and bacon. Definitely not light, but sometimes you just need a good burger. Reasonable prices, friendly staff. Not a sit down restaurant, but you can get a table after you order and they’ll bring you the food.

Ok burger but what kind of burger joint doesn’t serve fries!!! Trying too hard to be hipster! Try other places that serve better burgers WITH FRIES!

As a Southern California resident, it may come as a surprise when I say I’m not much of a fan of burgers. Its very seldom that I find burgers that I thoroughly enjoyed, and this place is one of them! My boyfriend and I were visited Amsterdam for a few days and just so happened to be around the canal where this gem was located. Since we were on a strange time/​eating schedule we walked in a few minutes before this place had opened, but the workers were kind enough to explain the menu and have us sit and wait inside the dining area until they ready to serve us (We think its because we looked like frail Californians who couldn’t handle the Amsterdam cold haha). I ordered the duck burger upon recommendation from one of the workers and devoured the whole thing in minutes. The patty itself was very juicy and well seasoned. It also had some very delicious green beans and other veggies to compliment it as well. My boyfriend ordered the burger with the truffle egg (sorry, I do not recall the exact names) and he enjoyed his as well, although we were told that they were all out of the truffle egg so he settled for a regular some. That just means we’ll have to try it when we find ourselves in Amsterdam again!

Sent here by locals who said it was the best burger in town and I was not misled! It was delicious. Simple and well done. The salad was very good too with grilled veggies and parmesean cheese. Overall very pleased! It is a very small location so there might not be seats! Lastly I wish they had fries!

I feel like this place was going for ‘old-​school diner charm’ but it landed somewhere between ‘school cafeteria’ and ‘mall food court’. The atmosphere is not only uninviting, but actively repelling — from the second I walked in I felt like getting out as soon as possible.
Nonetheless, their burgers are good, and I LOVE that they offer a ‘burger-​as-​a-​salad’ which is one of my favourite foods. Especially since aside from their standard menu you can also build your own burger with a bunch of delicious add-​ons like fried egg, avocado, pancetta, etc.
Basically it’s a solid ³⁄₅ stars, not sure I will go again, but definitely not a bad meal.

It was a good burger. Not the very best EVER but they use great meat. We tried the cheeseburgers the mini burgers and the chicken burger. And my 16 year old’s favorite– banana milkshake! They don’t sell French fries but when you see the size of the burger you know why!

I have a few rules about what makes a good burger. Here they are, in no particular order:
1. Well cooked patty
This one was OK, I guess, but one side got much more heat than the other which lead to a patty that was medium on the bottom and rare on top. –1 for technique.
2. Well chosen bun
Too crusty, with an outside that was more baguette-​like than bun. –1.
3. Well considered toppings
Cold egg salad. Really? It made the entire thing lukewarm. Also, next time, make a note in the menu that it’s cold egg salad, not «truffle egg.» A regular fried egg and some truffle mayo would have made this burger much better. Some sort of acid or vinegar would have made it even better. Mushy eggs and mayo craves for some tangy contrast.
So the burger was a fail.
There also weren’t any fries on the menu, which is interesting for a burger joint.
I felt that the burger was trying to hard. If it weren’t for the weird egg salad topping, it would’ve been pretty good for Amsterdam standards.
Also, please add fries to your menu!

Me ha gusta mucho este BurgerMeester. Me fui a Amsterdam por King’s Day y despues de unos dias comiendo las recetas tipicas de Amsterdam (que no solo son cervezas y patatas…), mi novio me ha aconsejado este restaurante.
OMG !! Los burgers son muy muy buenos y facil a comer. Pudes elegir entre un monton y te lo sierven con una patata llena de crema ! Que rico !!
Al nivel del lugar, hay que esperar un poco antes de sentarse porque es famoso el lugar pero el restaurante es super limpio, con cocina abierta (me encanta!) y puede hablar (mas dificil con todo el ruido de Barna).
Los precios son correctos por Amsterdam. Tienes que ir !

Je n’ai rien à reprocher à ce restaurant. Les hamburgers sont excellent très bien préparés et bien garni. Les pains hamburgers sont légèrement croquant et ça change des pains moût que les fastfood commercial nous vend.
Les serveurs et les cuisiniers sont très aimable, gentils avec les enfants.
Je le recommande vous né serez pas dessus.

A classic burger place in Amsterdam!
The first time I visited Amsterdam years ago, my friends took me to have a burger to the hippest and newest place in town, that place happened to be the first restaurant they opened.
I think they paved the road for most of the burger bars in town.
Their menu has remain the same over the years and they still don’t sell chips!
My favourite is the burger royal with cheddar but also the lamb burger is pretty good.
Additionally they always have the burger of the month that it could range from Kangaroo meat to a pork burger.
The only downside is the waiting time. I know that burger are no longer considered fast food but given the simplicity of the preparation process, having to wait 20 minutes for a burger feels a bit too much.

Been searching for a burger place with good quality meat and variation of burgers, today at the Burgermeester my girl and I enjoyed the Meesterburger and boy oh boy! Was that a treat!
Beef burger with grilled veggies, dragon mayo sauce and cheddar & Parmasiano cheese, all of that between brown burger bun.
Burgermeester will soon see me again ;-)

Nos recomiendan comer una buena hamburguesa aquí y la verdad que acertamos de pleno.
Además de buenas hamburguesas una presentación que invita a comer. Se nota mucho la calidad de los ingredientes.

Un truc pour en déguster plus est que vous prenez le trio de minis… Ils sont aussi succulents que les normaux.
Le thon est vraiment bon, le poulet est incroyablement bien assaisonné et le Master beef berger clôture la marche a amon avis mais ce n’est qu’une question de goût.;-)
La patate a la crème sur est correcte mais après tout il s’agit d’un classique ici pour les habitués donc on a presque pas le choix d’y goûter…

I don’t think their burgers are that exceptionally great. They’re OK, made from fresh ground meat, staff is very nice and there’s free WiFi.
The truffle burger I had didn’t taste of truffle at all and the overall experience taste wise was a bit like. .. meeeh. nothing special — despite the € 8.50 they charge you for it.

Kleiner aber feiner Burgerladen. Richtig lecker. Leider gibt es keine Pommes dazu. Trotzdem lecker.

Very good burgers. Pro tip: get a couple different mini burgers to sample the different types. Same price as one big burger. The Spanish lamb (with chorizo) was very good as was the ‘Royal’ burger. The falafel was also good. Oh yeah, they didn’t ask us how we wanted the burgers cooked but they came medium rare, which we like. If you like it done differently you should probably tell them when you order.
If you are visiting the zoo, I would recommend waiting to eat here afterwards rather than getting pricey mediocre snacks inside.

When all is said and done, I enjoyed this place a lot.
I went here on an «I’m so HANGRY» first date with a Dutch local. We had been walking around Jordaan for awhile searching for places, when we both realised how hungry we were and were like «welp. Let’s eat here.» It was already 21h by then, so we were desperate to find a place– so I like that this place is open so late! This place is sleek, modern and fast casual. (Which means it’s a nice concept that in familiar with as an American.) You order at the counter, and they’ll deliver it to your booth. It’s a pretty cozy space with ample seating (for booth parties.) It wasn’t all that crowded, which was good. The kitchen is also open to view, so you can see them cooking for you. As an American, it was also really nice to have the menu in English (they have one in both Dutch AND English at every booth.) I will warn Americans that you must order your own water– and pay for it. That’s just how they do here.
I’m really indecisive and wanted to try all the burgers, lol. So my date and I shared a slider trio AND the burger of the month. When I was there in May, it was the Kraken– a monstrosity (in a great way) made out of octopus, some sort of flavoured aioli and fresh greens. They do NOT have fries here… You can get a side salad instead? In any case, the burgers were delicious– YES, even the Kraken that we ended up devouring. Glad to find a great farm to table place that serves burgers in Amsterdam. Delicious, and I’ll have to head back again even though I’m not a huge fan of burgers.

I’ve been on a bit of a burger binge later but glad my bf and I checked out this place. Heard it was reviewed by the NY Times so it’s gotta be good right? Luckily we got there a bit early around 6 to grab a quick dinner before our comedy show at Boom Chicago.
It’s cool to watch them make the burgers — especially if you’re having it for the first time because you think… they’re HUGE. and looks delicious. I ordered the Meester beef, chicken and spanish burger as part of the trio. I started with the Spanish burger which was full of flavour. Chicken burger was also great, loved the mix of avocado and mango. The Meester burger was good but probably should’ve started with that because it felt a bit plain.
There are no fries but the baked potato is a good alternative. Also probably better that way because the burgers are very filling. The baked potato was nicely baked and do like it was topped with sour cream.
Interesting that they don’t have diet coke… even if it seems a bit silly to have it when you’re eating burgers but sometimes I just prefer it. Would love to try some of the other burgers. They had a special — geese from schipol we would like to try next time!

This is a gourmet burger place with interesting combinations. It is one of the better burger places in Amsterdam if you’re craving burgers.
Food: ³⁄₅
Their ingredients are fresh and you can really taste it from the food. Some of their combinations were a bit strange in flavor but they were very creative (example, feta and watermelon burger). The meat was a bit overcooked and though it was juicy, it didn’t melt in my mouth.
Their milkshakes are really strange and the flavor combos don’t work. Do not order…
Atmosphere: ⁴⁄₅
There is an outdoor patio that you can sit and people watch. Alternatively, you can sit inside and watch them make your burgers. Overall, a really nice location.
Value: ³⁄₅
You can order a trio of different burgers for 11,50 and that allows you to try different flavors.

Four stars because, of course there’s some place where the burgers are even better, but this is my favourite place for burgers!
Amsterdam is basically divided between lovers of Burger-​bar (which I reviewed earlier) and lovers of Burgermeester.
Everything that’s wrong with Burger-​bar is RIGHT at Burgermeester.
The meat/​fish/​poultry is fresh and from sustainable farms (I believe mostly even biological/​ecological certified) as are their other ingredients and you can taste it.
They have a set number of burgers and a burger of the month, created by one of their guests. Everyone can send in suggestions for burger recipes and one is picked each month.
If you can’t choose between their regular offerings and the burger of the month, simply choose a trio (or duo) of mini burgers. Super easy to eat, not too small not too big.
There are three locations in Amsterdam so you should never be too far away from one (-:
