You walk into a restaurant, have a seat on your own, and after 10 mins a person comes to take your order. Just by mistake, you order a lemonade(that is not on the menu) and guess what! You get shouted upon! Just so loudly that everyone turns to see you! Then you apologise, and carry on with the main dish, then again as you order something he moves to another table and shouts from there. ‘That’s not possible either’. So what do you do? You ask him to cancel all that you have preferred till now and start to move out. Voila! The guy is the happiest person! That was our experience with the restaurant called AKBAR! Horrible! Horrible! Horribly horrible! Oh ya! We have had good at this restaurant before with a friend and trust me it’s not worth it. Went again because we were really running out of options!

Hmmm… our experience was definitely better than the previous reviewer. Akbar was recommended by Frommer’s and we enjoyed the food, service, atmosphere and the AIRCONDITIONING!!! Being Indian connoisseurs, we were very pleased with our dishes of chicken tikka karahi and rogan josh. The garlic naan was OK, but I’ve had much better. Located in Leidseplein district and down an alley, we felt like fish out of water, but once inside we felt very much at home. I agree that the prices are steep, but isn’t everything in Europe??? We decided at the beginning of our holiday to stop converting dollars to pounds & euros in our head — it was just too painful. $ 10 for a large bottle of water… just don’t go there :)

Mmmm… service is slow and the food is really really heavy. I got out of the place after dinner feeling very heavy even if I did not eat that much. I consider it a bit too expensive for the quality of everything. I would say it is a real tourist trap. Too bad cause the ambiance is not not bad at all and it is indeed very central. I would not advice a stop unless you are really craving for Indian and everything else is closed.
