Aghhhh, 3 or 4, 3 or 4! I promise Unilocal if you introduce half stars I will NOT later beg for quarter stars, I promise. Well, maybe I would. Perhaps Aguada deserves 3 ¾ stars and that’s why I moved to 4. Simple, unpretentious, extremely intimate and gezellig. The two story restaurant offers cozy, seat-yourself tables. The menu choice is concise, and in fact, written on the wall. We weren’t ever handed physical menus so I’m not sure if they even have them. I had eaten raclette for the past two days in a row, and although I could have easily indulged in a cheese-gorged third night, I shockingly went not with my belly but with my brain. No cheese for you. Well, actually cheese for you, just not for me that night, because for all intents and purposes this is a cheese fondue restaurant. And it looked fantastic, bubbling away in its little pots. I imagine that the 4 – 5(non-fondue) item menu changes fairly frequently. This evening they offered a white fish– thai style if memory serves, an indian vegetarian dish, a ribeye and Renpang. My friend and I took the latter two, respectively. The ribeye was served steak-au-poivre style and was cooked just right. It came with frites and some veg. The renpang– an Indonesian spicy savory stewed meat dish was beste lekker. It was served with crispy onions, rice with that addictive coconut-peanut mix, kroepuk and green beans. For a non-Indonesian restaurant, really, they nailed it. Price-wise, we had two rounds of biertjes, two mains and got out of there for less than 40 €. Ahh, but that ambiance! I arrived in let’s say, not the greatest of moods, and soon was seduced by the warm, intimate vibe. The lighting, the small tables, the satisfied diners. And let’s face it everyone was satisfied because everyone there(–2) were eating fondue. Simple equation for happiness. Yeah, what am I talking about half stars? This place is a solid 4.
