Came here Saturday night for a 21st function– second one at this venue. Loved it the first time and loved it again. It’s a bit of hard one to find– you need to make a hard right after the main entrance from the Kingslander and up the stairs but it’s a very private space with both a lovely indoor and outdoor section with an open roof and real fireplace. The nibbles were delicious and had a great bar selection. Nice few tables dotted around with corner benches and the slightly elevated section with arm chairs and tables with windows. Really love this place– very good 21st venue!

A funky little upstairs bar above The Kingslander it is good for a quiet drink, but mostly it’s best use is for private functions purposes.

The bar staff are awesome, they have the overhead projector, the mic system, music if you need, and you get the total venue to yourself, it is quiet up there, you have different seating options, they can hold either small or large etc, and I have never, ever had anyone stuff up a booking. The food is great too.

I love Nectar Bar I really do, it is the place were you go for some interesting entertainment or something a little different. I have been there twice once for Zoh Zoh album release party and the second time for a reggae concert. It is an amazing venue which is upstairs right next door to the Kingslander. The outdoor courtyard at Nectar is perfect for a sunny night, I sat there enjoyed a glass of wine and talked to this man who was into some spiritual rituals. I loved watching people swaying to some reggae music which I grew up to with no shoes on. I felt so over dressed in my heels and dress and in no time I had taken them of and was swaying and singing«nobody can stop reggae». Beautiful times!

I didn’t even know this place existed until my friends’ band played a gig here. «Where’s Nectar?» «Above the Kingslander». «There an ‘above the Kingslander’?» «Yep.» So off we went, and it was pretty cool. It’s small, which I think is great for a good local band because with enough people the place packs out, and everyone seemed to be having a really great time. The bar staff were sweet, seemed a bit overwhelmed with the amount of people there though. There’s an outdoor area(that is covered in) for all the smokers, but it’s not that big so the smoke is quite overwhelming, but there are plenty of seats and tables to lean against, which is something I always look for. The toilets are downstairs, which is really annoying, and make it feel like a faux bar, that it’s just an upstairs, private room as part of the Kingslander, not a bar in its own right. But I did have a really good time there and would definitely go back.

I got to experience Nectar at its best when I attended a local musicians album release at this sexy little bar upstairs above the Kingslander in Kingsland. A private party, invite only, I mingled among famous film and media celebrities as catered food was passed around the room, platters of Garlic Prawns and Crispy Calamari– scrumptious tapas from the Nectar menu. The cool blend of cosmopolitan and exotic give this little bar a neat portrait, the outside kind of indoor/outdoor area is relaxing, and seductive. You are sure to love the amazing cocktails they produce at this bar; so a must to try for the girls night out, or perhaps a romantic date. I enjoyed watching live music here, and hope to attend another gig some time again.

Nectar! Cool! What a super place for a gig. I like the venue and the décor, and I like the couches except I couldn’t sit on them because that’s where the band was. Get a stage, Nectar. Seriously though, this was a great place to watch some live bands and a great space to rock out. Annoyingly the toilets are downstairs in the Kingslander, but conveniently the drinks down there seem to be cheaper so really you get a double whammy for making the trip. There’s an «outdoor» area at the back of the bar(covered-in except for one side), which is probably nice to hang out in if you want to smoke but terrible if you’re a non-smoker wanting some fresh air. I’m not a smoker so I wish those people would go blow their asthma-inducing cancer particles in the real outside, and not in what is pretty much still the inside. But other than that the bar staff were nice, the atmosphere was awesome with a good-sized crowd rocking out to some mean beats.

It’s always difficult gauging the identity of a spin-off. Is the TV show Joey a series in its own right, or is it just a sub-story of Friends? Similarly, is Nectar Bar really a bar in and of itself, or is it merely the upstairs room of the Kingslander? The answer is an unsatisfying ‘sort of’. While part of the same building and business, Nectar behaves semi-independently. You can hire it out for functions, and sometimes they host gigs which are unrelated to whatever’s going on downstairs at the Kingslander. The bar itself is a nice space with high ceilings and classy furnishings. It also has an outdoor balcony with sides but no roof, which you can smoke in. This is great if you’re a smoker because you get to smoke without leaving the bar, but a bit crappy if you’re not a smoker, because you get to smoke without leaving the bar. Some more ventilation would make a world of difference. The drinks aren’t particularly cheap(Kingsland is the new Ponsonby is the new Newmarket etc.) but they have drink specials which vary from night to night. And the staff are great — the night I was there it was packed and although they looked terribly understaffed, they coped with the situation well. Plus they were friendly, which must be hard to maintain over the course of an evening.
