A decent fish and chips place. Nothing to write home about, but if you are in the area and want to fried grease food well why not. First and foremost this place gets crowded during the summer, so if you expect some great quality fish and chips when ppl and spilling into the side walk, then it’s your own fault. Good, crispy and not too oily fish takes some time to prepare, ain’t nobody got time for that at the Fish Pot. The prices are decent for the amount of food that you get, I can never finish the chips. My only issues here and with NZ restaurants in general is, you want me to pay for condiments? Excuse me, but no! Charge me extra for the portion but I want all the ketchup and tartar sauce my heart desires, and no I’m not paying you $ 4 for ketchup in a can.

The famous Fish Pot was not that impressed. The service was reasonable. The food was average, the presentation was horrible. See my pictures. It was like you were eating home made fish and chip in a very small town. The plate was extremely ugly. We have ordered some oysters for share, all 3 oysters that I had have shell in it. See picture. My friend’s one were fine, either he was lucky or he ate those shell. The environment was average. So many people walk around the restaurant and people were locking and unlocking the toilet. Come on, just keep the toilet unlock. No one will steal the toilet paper. Anyway, you can find much better fish and chip at the beginning of the beach.

We came in for lunch. My mother needed to use their restroom which their sign states is for patrons only but because we were only getting takeaway they refused to let her use their restroom. Rude. We went elsewhere for lunch.

One of my favourite places to pick up some fush ‘n’ chups in Auckland, hands down. Yes, it’s more expensive than your average takeaways, but you get what you pay for, especially if you get the larger sized fish fillets, with a large snapper looking like you have the whole damn fish! If you’re wanting to relax on the beach and eat some classic kiwi tucker with now hassles and great food, look no further.

I’ve only ever had chips from here but they are good chips. And I eat a lot of chips. I really should be fatter, but luckily training for a half marathon is keeping me in check(or means I can eat way more chips. I’m going for that option). In any case, as you’d expect a waterfront fish and chip takeaway on a summer’s day to be, it was busy. They use the numbering system though: you get issued your number when ordering and someone starts shouting it out when it’s ready. The queue was out the door but the wait was reasonable considering the number of patrons. The service wasn’t anything to write home about but the staff were pleasant enough.

It is amazing that you can get the ‘New Zealand eating fish and chips at the beach experience’ so close to Auckland CBD. I have had arguments with people as to whether Mission Bay is actually a beach, and I have heard some very convincing points which cast serious doubt as to whether it actually is. Yes I admit that it is not the nicest beach in the world, I am not asking you to buy a house there, but maybe you could grace it with your reverent presence for long enough to eat just one meal. Delicious fish and chips with a not so appetizing price tag, but a great way to catch the end of summer, sitting on the«beach» enjoying good food and the last bit of heat which is left in the day.

If you’re after some old fashioned fish and chips in a great location, you can’t go past Fish Pot Café in Mission Bay. Fish Pot actually comprises two establishments — the takeaway fish and chip shop, and the dine-in restaurant. Needless to say in the beachfront location, the takeaway is the more popular option — fish and chips on the beach is one of life’s cheap, carefree experiences. The food here is very good as far as fish and chip shops go — perhaps a little pricey but that’s expected in this location. If you’re health-conscious, you’ll naturally avoid the battered stuff — but the crumbed tarakhi is really good! Chip connoisseurs will appreciate the fries on offer here also — invariably perfect.

After missing some good ol’ fish and chips I decided to head down to Mission Bay and make a day out of it. I grabbed my sunnies, a towel, a picnic rug and a companion. It was summer after all and it seemed just right. I had heard amazing things about fish pot café and I was more than happy to pay more than I usually would for fish and chips. To say the least I was annoyed that the toilets where only for those dinning in the restaurant, what about the ones buying takeaway? I was not impressed by the serving size of my meal which was fish, chips, a drink and a fritter, and found the meal to be too greasy even for fish and chips standard. Meh. I have truly experienced better but I would go back just for the chips!
