We both started with margaritas which were alot bigger than expected and pretty strong. Then we had the gaucomole which fresh and super yummy. For the main course I had the mixed fajaias, it come out sizzling hot and great portion. Loved everything about my meal.

Excellent food and not too expensive! We ordered a kids burger for a 4 year old that was well an adult portion which was great since she was very hungry. The pizza and pasta are perfectly cooked. The fried fish is very taste as well as the mole enchiladas. AMAZING margaritas on the rocks, seriously delicious. We got a 10% voucher when we were looking at the menu and said we might come back later on. Good attentive staff and very comfortable air conditioning.

My husband and I were wandering up and down 5th ave in Playa del Carmen trying to find a spot to get a quick bite. I am a vegetarian so we had to eliminate a couple places before deciding on Karen’s. The man standing by the menu on the street said, «vegetarian? Please! No problem! But do you eat cheese?» That’s when I knew I was in good hands. Our server took us to an air conditioned area. They have an area with air conditioning, fans, and outdoor seating. I ordered veggie enchiladas and my husband got steak fajitas. Mine was superb! Great flavors! Excellent mix of vegetables. The rice that came with it was so tasty. The whipped black beans on the side were out of this world. They also had live music playing. Really loved this place. Was very pleasantly surprised. They accept credit cards.

Food was okay, but very expensive as with anything on 5th ave. You are so so so better to walk just 1 block over to 10th ave and pay ½ to ¼ the price for even better food. Don Sirloin’s by the Coco Bongo is one I’d recommend. I had chicken tacos and a margarita, both were average, but at least the service was fast and it was nice to sit and watch the crowds roam by along 5th.

Walking down the Quinta Avenida in Playa del Carmen, it is difficult to choose between all of the restaurant possibilities. How to choose? For me, it finally came down to my namesake — Karen. Good choice! The food was fine. We shared a couple of appetizers and a margarita. The best was the opportunity to listen to the Andean musicians that were playing in the front of the restaurant. So good! Also, take the opportunity to look at the paintings in the back of the restaurant. The Frida Kahlo portrait copies are incredible!

We had nachos with cheese and a med pizza with h and sausage. Food was average at best. However, live music and service was good. BL — folks don’t come to 5 Ave for great food.

This place is right on 5ta Avenida. I would recommend trying the Karens pizza. It was pretty good and contained several different meats and mushrooms. They had a live band when we went which added to the experience. My only let down were the drinks! I ordered a screwdriver and my boyfriend had a tequila sunrise and both drinks were so watered down I wonder if it even contained alcohol but the waiter assured us it did. I found this to be common practice in most restaurants by Playa del Carmen. At almost $ 10 per drink you might as well just keep your money. I would only go back for the pizza.
