Few restaurants can say they’ve been around for more than 35 years. And there’s good reason why. Still one of the best restaurants around for good Chinese food. The place looks tired and old. But who cares? The food is reliably good. So what else are you looking for in a restaurant but good food?

New Formosa Restaurant has always been a favourite restaurant for my family and I. Since their opening in 1980, they have been serving delicious authentic Taiwanese cuisine. The owner herself is a Taiwanese and she has a very strict quality control on all the dishes that go out from her kitchen. My family loved their Steamed Prawns in Bamboo with herbs. The prawns were perfectly steamed and we could taste the sweetness of the prawns in the herbal soup. As for my personal favourite would be their Hand-made Haaka Glutinous Rice Pieces(Mua Chi) and Formosa Special Sweet Yam. The Mua Chi were so soft and coated with fresh peanuts powder. Whenever my family and I have our dinner over here, the Formosa Special Sweet Yam is a must order for us. They would serve the hot yam coated with honey, and soaked them in ice water in a very fast speed. Eventually the honey would harden, and there we’ll have our dessert — crunchy honey on the outside but warm and soft yam on the inside. It’s a must to make reservation if you are ever going to dine in the restaurant. This is because they are always packed with patrons. So, unless you don’t mind waiting for an empty table; otherwise it’s advisable to reserve a table to avoid any disappointment.
