It was my first time here for lunch. If it weren’t because of my friends, I wouldn’t know this hole in the wall restaurant. We ordered bacones to share, which they recommended. It’s bacon in a cone shape and filled with mashed potatoes. And I ordered roast pork and a Japanese beer for lunch(Yes, beer during lunch on a working weekday). ;) Food is nothing to shout about. The service was okay, staff wasn’t very friendly. The place is really nice, all black walls and lighted up slightly by warm lights. It’s pretty dim that I couldn’t really read the menu. Overall, food and service is not on par for the kind of price they are charging.

If you’re a hardcore fan of pork cuisines(non-halal cuisine) and if you don’t mind travelling to SS2 Petaling Jaya. Smoking Hog is definitely on the very top of your list of awesome restaurants to visit before the end of time. Smoking Hog is actually a very unique/niche restaurant that specialises in western cuisines that revolves around pork. I visited this restaurant quite awhile back when it newly opened, I remembered at that time we were quite lucky as we don’t need to wait too long for a table. Smoking Hog has one of the more unique entrances as you have to go to the back alley and take an elevator to level 2/3(I can’t remember) to the restaurant. Smoking Hog has an awesome environment which has a relaxed and mysterious ambience(it has a lot of weird statues and it’s fairly dark as well). Their food is nothing short of fantastic as well, and all I can remember was their portion is huge and their menu is really unique and special. I highly recommend this restaurant to every pork lovers and foodie alike. I’m definitely visiting them again.

Omg what a gem of a find! Located sneakily along a hidden alley way, you will not find this restaurant unless you keep your eyes peeled. Even when found you will need to take the escalator up to the 2nd floor which opens into a beautiful and cosy atmosphere at the Smoking Hog where you will be greeted by friendly and amorous staff. Though cosy and smallish in size, the décor is pretty amazing. Being a group of about 7 people we were allocated to a long table which overhead large hanging ceiling lamps. I snuggled into my huge comfy chair and felt like a queen for the whole 2 hours I was there with my colleagues. The menu is kept simple but descriptive enough to let you know what you’re in for. Their signature bacones are AMAZING — The bacon is crispy enough on the outside and the flavour oozes out. Also had a few of the other entrees like the devilled eggs and potato hash and salad — all presented well and tasted delicious. My colleagues were all equally impressed with the quality of food(it’s a bit on the higher end of things but well worth the money) and friendly efficient floor staff. The only gripe would be the amount of space — I feel like once more people find out about this gem, they will need to either occupy another floor or move to a bigger place altogether. In the meantime I’ll keep coming back for more bacones! :)

Smoking Hog is awesome. It is pretty much the place to go to if you are hungry for some swine, and then about to choke from all the meat you are about to consume. Let’s face it, their dishes are amazing. Their portions are huge, and are usually filled with heaps of pork and sausages that will fill you with happiness, and then refill it with impending heart seizures. Their prices are not really the most affordable among all the competitors, but with the portions, who could really complain? At night time, Smoking Hog will transform into a semi-bar, with many patrons coming in just to have a drink and chill with their friends, while eating swine, of course. Life could not have been any easier, if not for the fact that we all are even sober in the first place.

A lot of you may have gone about your business in SS2 without realising there is a very interesting restaurant in your midst. Situated on top of Professor, which is on top of the Crab Factory, this hidden place features pork extensively in their menu. Another great place for pork lovers to try I feel. As with most restaurants that serve pork, the price tag from your meal may leave slightly reeling. One of their signatures, the Mancakes costs RM25. Expensive in my opinion for a brunch dish. However, I do find myself enjoying it thoroughly almost to the point I might burst from the sweetness of the syrup and the tastiness of the bacon with the pancakes. Another one worth trying, especially if you haven’t yet is the Dutch Babies. I can only describe is a lighter and egg-ier version of crepes. You’ll be surprised at how much you’ll like the texture of the pancake with some toppings. Great for brunch. The restaurant also has dinner menu where they serve more substantial dishes, so it worth another trip back. Their interior is also something mentioning, with black walls lined with animal portraits, it is both austere and quirky at the same time. The blinds are completely pulled down over the windows, creating a space where the daylight hours blur seamlessly into night-time. A place worth going for dates or for group dinners.

They have very creative and extensive menu. We ordered their Signature Bacones which is actually an all-day breakfast served in cone shaped bacon! The cone made out of bacon is stuffed with mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs and baked beans. The Massive Hog which is written ‘serves 2 piglet’ comes with 4 eggs scramble, fried or poached, grilled pork shoulder with Pesto, homebaked beans, waffle potato hash, sautéed mix vegetables, sautéed mix mushrooms, grilled sweetcorn, grilled tomatoes, smoked garlic pork sausage, Nuremburg banger sausage, smoked bacon served with toasted brioche, mini croissant and smoking hog tomato sauce. Because there’s four of us and The Massive Hog is written serves two, we got greedy and go on to order another Grilled Mac & Cheese with Pulled Pork and Bacon Sandwich. When the food is served, we nearly fainted. The Bacones was alright because there were only two of them but The Massive Hog is indeed massive, same goes to the portion of the sandwich we ordered. The four of us had a really tough time finishing what we ordered. Thank goodness their food is delicious, otherwise it will be a disaster. All of us ordered their coffees too. Three of us had their latte and my caffeine addict friend had 2 long black for herself. Besides coffees, they serve homemade ice lemon tea, lemonade some other soft drinks too. Generally, I enjoyed my brunch there very much but I find the lighting of the restaurant a little too dim. Nonetheless it is still a very highly recommended place for western food cum pork lovers. Will be back to try Smoking Hog’s Ultimate Soft Shell Crab BLT!

A hidden restaurant located at a side alley with no signboard? That piqued my interest! Finding Smoking Hog was a journey itself. Look for its sister outlet Crab Factory and walk towards the side alley where there is an opening revealing a door. At first glance, i thought i had accidentally stumbled into the kitchen but a lift going up brought me to the right place. Smoking Hog is a bacon heaven and serves pork in almost every dish. Its dark interior with wood lined walls and big heavy chairs somehow reminded me of a gentleman’s lounge, a place where you go to escape being seen given the scarce lighting. The menu is extensive from porky breakfasts to dessert options. Since I wasn’t very hungry i opted for Bacones which was an all day breakfast dish meant for sharing. Portions can come across as small given the price you’re paying for as almost everything on the menu was priced above RM20. My food arrived quickly as I was the first one among the dinner crowd but i was disappointed as it did not blew me away. Bacon was a little hard and i only enjoyed the stuffed mashed potatoes inside. It felt like something I could easily whip up at home without much effort. Smoking Hog also aims to be a drinking venue as its alcohol list is pretty extensive and i spotted liqueur choices that are rare around KL. Overall a little disappointed as I had high hopes but maybe I’ll be back for the drinks.
