The first time I had a steak here, I knew that would be the last time. The portion of the steak is really small compare to its ridiculous price. If you are so desperate for a steak, please don’t put this place on your list. The service is one of the worst I ever seen as well. It’s so slow, it makes a snail laughing at you while taking a piss.

Fancy having some steak without damaging your wallet? Well this all american diner is the place for you! This steak house located opposite McDonald’s in mid valley megamall brings you the typical New york fast food menu which includes steaks, lamb, burgers, salads & more. On average a decent piece of steak would cost you somewhere along the lines of rm 50 above, however here you’d be able to get your hands on a a beef slab for less than that. Just like any of the restaurants in Mid valley, this place was packed to the brim so I assumed that the food would be somewhat above average. To my dismay, It wasnt close to being good. The meat wasnt flavorful & the mash served as the side tasted like as though it was out of the box. Pretty disappointing I would say!

Since this place first opened in Mid Valley sometime late last year, they haven’t been short on customers. It is always super packed at lunchtime though I think most people are lured by the deco here; which is very«American-diner» and the steaks are relatively cheap. But I guess you get what you pay for as sadly, nothing here really stands out. Of all the steaks I have tried here, the Country Beef tastes the best and I’m thinking maybe because it is battered and deep-fried! The ribeye was a bit chewy for my liking while my husband said that the sirloin tasted a bit bland. When you order your steak here, you get to choose between a few sauces, black pepper and mushroom among them(sorry, can’t remember the rest!) and two side dishes. The sides are typical french fries, coleslaw, mashed potatoes and corm. If you are a big fan of steak, then this isn’t the place for you. If, on the other hand, you are looking for affordable decent-tasting steaks with a quirky ambience, then by all means, stop by NY Steak Shack.

NY Steak Shack is your resident steakhouse that does not taste as good as it seems, and every neighborhood has one. For the residents who live near Midvalley, this is the one steakhouse that, well, taste pretty average. For what it’s worth, their New York strip tastes pretty decent, with its meat being tender and its texture seared to perfection… With its meat being fully cooked instead of medium rare, just as I have asked them to. Of course, I don’t mind that if the service is good, but it is not, and it is extremely hilarious to see that a steakhouse has its signature dishes being destroyed by their own chefs. Just sad. Perhaps the most mind boggling thing I found out when I ate there is the fact that this place actually exists, and how can it exists among all the Tony Roma’s, Chilis and TGIF around the vicinity. Damn.

In my opinion, steaks cannot be enjoyed in a fast food or diner manner. It is something that can only be savored in a proper grill house or restaurant where the chefs understand the value and art of preparing the perfect steak. Add mass-market or fast food concept to steak joint, it will loose its taste, significance and not to mention reputation, fast. NY Steak Shack is a prime(get it? Prime?) example of this. Against all my better judgments I still gave it a try. I didn’t want to totally hate the place to I settled on the steak sandwich because how bad can one screw a steak sandwich right? I was right. It was nice and light and the meat was perfectly cooked, albeit being a little on the dry side, it was nonetheless enjoyable and filling. My friend who had the same-sized balls as Evel Knievel ordered a NY classic rib-eye. It came in a sizzling pan and was dry and extremely chewy. Two words a chef does not want to hear when describing a steak. The place was set up to look like a typical New York diner or at least it tried to, the fast food joint concept is a little more apparent as you walked in. Give it a try, you might have a different opinion. I may be a little harsh in my review but I know steak, and no one messes with me and my meat.
