We exchanged a timeshare week via Interval International for our stay at Bluebeard’s Beach Club. Being a Marriott owner, we have kind of high expectations, so we wondered about how Bluebeard’s would measure up. We have to say we were very happy. The resort is a bit older in style, but very clean and well-kept. They seem to be doing some upgrading. Our unit was a studio, with a «limited» kitchen. This was more than adequate for our needs. We bought groceries at the beginning of the week, and the full-sized fridge, two burners plus dishes, coffee pot, blender, knives and other accessories were plenty for our cooking needs. This was especially helpful, since there is no restaurant on the property. The resort would really benefit by getting their restaurant back up and running. It seems the facilities are there from some time in the past, but they probably need to renovate or maybe just get a concessionaire in. The pool bar is well-stocked an always had a few guests around it. They make breakfast for purchase from there but we never ate it. They also do a buffet one night and a BBQ afternoon. We didn’t participate in either of those. Most times you can get a hot sandwich with chips and a pickle at the bar for $ 9 or so, which is fine in a pinch. It seems expensive, but on St. Thomas it’s pretty much in line with what you get from any tourist spot. The pool was clean, and maintenance guys were out early every morning keeping the grounds, sweeping, etc. Cats in two«Cat Cafes» wander around doing their jobs too. The beach at Bluebeard’s is really nice. It’s small, but big enough to not feel too crowded. The resort felt secluded and very relaxed, which was perfect for us. We were left on our own to discover the island. Bluebeard’s does have relationships with various vendors, so if you want someone to do the work for you, it’s easy to sign up for day trips and stuff with the Activities Director. We liked how they kept things low-key, and would recommend it as a good value.

My sister and brother in law own a time share here and offered up for us for our honeymoon. It’s much less expensive than some of the other resorts but also a bit outdated. They are upgrading and redoing. One warning, they’re known for being horrible for sand fleas! Make sure to use some Off! Best part is the pool bar. People always come from their sister resort to use the pool bar. Overall a good value and a good option if you’re not looking to spend a ton.

The restaurant has now closed down — the ultimate review in itself. Nothing more need be said. Wait — I heard this week that it will re-open after a major upgrade. Let’s hope that the $ 100K+ is worth it!
