Whenever I pass O’sullivans I wished I had an artistic bone in my body. Can only imagine how itchy my fingers would get if I actually knew how to hold a brush. But last Christmas, I decided that I would try to be a little creative and make all my Christmas cards and save a few bucks in the meantime. Off I went to O’Sullivan, and voila! Got lall the supplies I needed: paper in different colours, glitter and glue and a couple of cool pens. It probably did end up costing way more than the cards sold in the supermarket, but the smiles received from family and friends made it worth every penny.

This shop is the kind of place that I really wish I knew existed earlier. Admittedly, most of the time I’m in the Camden Street area it’s usually because I’m heading to a pub or grabbing some grub, and thus I never really think to do some shopping. I’d actually completely walked by this place a bunch of times, until the other day when I peered in through the window. Staring back out at me was an amazing collection of art supplies. Now I’m not a real artist, but when I was little I used to go to art school(it was really inspiring they used to make us trace things and everybody’s work came out the same) and I’ve always loved creating random drawings and I really, really love pastels and getting my hands dirty. This shop is like a candy store for artists. It’s filled with a brilliant assortment of supplies that would make anybody want to prop up an easel and paint a rendition of the Grand Canal! I also have a secret, maybe not so secret, obsession with writing implements(oddly, my sister is also obsessed with them). I’m really partial to what kind of pencil I use, there’s this certain type of mechanical pencil that you don’t have to click and I’m always bringing tons of them over from the US. After visiting this shop I think I might just save some room in my suitcase the next time I fly over!

Having recently moved to Ireland with one a couple suitcases, I didn’t have room to bring all of my art supplies along with me, nor do I think it is even legal to bring turpentine on a commercial flight. Anyway, as a result I landed without even a single pencil to my name and almost immediately the urge to create became overwhelming. O’Sullivan’s to the rescue! I found the selection to be pretty good for a smallish shop, and they managed to cram in a nice range of art books, notebooks, and even printer cartridges. Of course my focus was mostly on the arty goodies and I walked away with a nice little watercolor set, a few brushes and a pad of watercolor paper without feeling like I spent too much money. Another really great feature of O’Sullivans is that they offer student discounts, which makes a huge difference when you’re buying a couple months worth of groceries… in paint.

I agree with John, this place stocks the most amazing array of supplies for all your painting, sketching, framing, spraypainting, artwork and drawing needs. If I had even one artistic bone in my body sure I would find this place most useful and exciting. It has a lovely feel about it and it’s great to be able to walk through all the aisles and admire all the tools of the trade(and indeed wonder at what some of them are used for… so technical, this artistic business!)

As well as being an extremely well stocked art supplies shop O’Sullivan’s is one of the oldest graphic design and art suppliers in Ireland. The shop also has a cool modern warehouse feel about it too. Although I’m certainly not an artist I like their range of art and design books and magazines. They also supply paints, pencils, markers, inks, mediums, papers, pads, card, canvases, brushes, easels, portfolios, computer consumables and stationery. If your an artist or in any kind of Visual medium you probably know all about them already. Although the place is pricey its pretty much the best in Dublin.

O’Sullivan Graphics have been in Business since 1935. Check out the website. I have used since they were first located just off Camden, At first I thought they were very expensive as I spent a small fortune on matrials for art college there. I was young then and very niave. They have since located onto Camden Street, and there prices are now very competitive. They always have sales on too, which is great if your into art/drawing/or just equiping the kids for school/college. Well worth a visit. Staff are Friendly, Efficient and know their stuff. Worth checking out, before you buy anywhere else, try them first, you won’t be disappointed.
