Had heard a lot about this place but was a bit disappointed when I actually had time to stop by and try. We ended up getting a few things to take out — and while it wasn’t bad by any means, it just really didn’t blow my mind at all. It’s sort of a weird made-to-order-slash-whatever’s-in-that-day place, which is fine and probably what a lot of people would like about it but I really felt like there was a lot of room for there to be creative menu items at least offered and that just didn’t materialize when I was there. May have just been a subpar experience which could admittedly happen anywhere. Anyway will probably give it another go for a full, eat-in meal at some point when I’m feeling vegetarian food again, but as of now sort of unimpressed.

This is probably my most favourite place to eat in Dublin, not necessarily this particular branch but Govinda’s in general. The food is all vegan or vegetarian and it is super delicious and really cheap, too. You get what they call a ‘small’ plate for € 7.45 and they pile it high with whatever dishes they have cooked that day. They do a yummy paneer dish in a gorgeous tomato sauce and today they had a shepherd’s pie, which was so filling. This is the best veggie food in Dublin.

I couldn’t give this place more stars! It was so refreshing to eat delicious, vegetarian, Indian food in Dublin at such an inexpensive price. I ordered the small plate, which they stack high with all of the dishes of the day for about € 7. Unless you are positively famished, I’d stick to the small plate — I can’t even imagine what the large looks like. The food was delicious, filling, and fresh. The people there are absolutely lovely. Although it had been our first time in the restaurant, the lady working was very amiable and it seemed as though she knew a lot of the other customers by name. It really gave the sense of being a small, family-owned restaurant in a big city like Dublin. Although the décor is plain and nothing noteworthy, it doesn’t subtract from the overall ambiance of the place. You should definitely stop by if you want a cheap, quick, and filling meal and I would go out of my way to come here again!

Govinda’s is a fantastically cheap place to go for a cheap feed. It’s run by Hare Krishnas and is entirely vegetarian. For about € 7 you can get a big plate of delicious veggie Indian cuisine. It makes for a great hangover fixer. There are three portion sizes; small, medium and large. You order at the counter and they will fill your plate until over flowing with your choice(or even a bit of everything if you ask nicely). A small plate is more than enough for one person, the medium is nearly enough for three to share and I have never even dared to go near the large plate. The Aungier street location is a little bit bare but still quite nice. It’s brightly lit and the staff are always friendly. I would recommend asking extra paneer. It is absolutely amazing.

Superb place! I usually do a take out and the food are all mush up together so I don’t take a picture of it. But I love this place. Food is good in both quantity and quality. Students gets a discount so it only cost me € 6.25. I love the paneer the best!

I’m not a veggie, but scored an online deal for Govinda’s. I like my bargains! It was a lovely sunny day, so I didn’t really feel like eating inside(the restaurant itself is not of the cozy kind anyway — more of a café), and luckily they also do take-aways. I didn’t know what to order, so basically they filled a tray with 5 or 6 different dishes for me, I think there was a chickpea stew, spinach/potato bake, veggie stew, dahl, rice, paneer in a tomato sauce.(it would help if maybe they could put some signs next to the dishes!) I really wanted to take a photo, but it didn’t look all that appetizing, so skip that, as it wouldn’t do the food any justice, which tasted just fine. Nice for a quick(very affordable) lunch, but not somewhere I would hang out with friends for atmospehere.

This place has it all for vegetarian eaters. The food and value are absolutely amazing, and the portion sizes are massive. There was so much variety that it was hard to discern what I was eating but every mouthful was great. The décor could use some work but apart from this, a really great restaurant.

Delicious vegetarian food! I have been to the Govindas in Los Angeles and I was surprised a city as small as Dublin has 2 locations. I hope that is because people realize how good the food is. As everyone has said, the small plate is huge, and they gave a choice of 3 salads and an assortment of main dishes. Its really small inside, so not a good place for groups, but they have take-out(takeaway) and you still get a huge portion. Honestly it was probably the best food we had in Dublin for the week we were there, and we were eating at restaurants 2x a day.

Affordable, friendly, delicious, versatile, atmospheric, and right in the city centre. Couldn’t be happier.

I love Govinda’s! Great food, friendly staff, and not too expensive. Only downside is that the restaurant itself is not terribly attractive. It could use a little cozying up.

It has been quite a while since my visit and rest assured it will be the last. I had purchased this on a deal website and thought it looked great. perhaps I should’ve researched it a bit better. I thought great, this will be lovely(my partner is a veggie), I’m always looking to try something new. I was absolutely appalled as we walked into the«restaurant” — I would call it a glorified canteen. the smell of the place was horrible however we proceeded to check out the food. Having gotten over the fact of the smell, I ordered some mixture of food and when we finally got a seat a cheap, dirty table, I tried the food. I stopped almost immediately and left within ten minutes. The service was unbelievably bad, the food absolutely disgusting. I walk past this place at least once a week and am shocked to see that it’s quite busy — this I don’t understand. I will never go back to this place!

I’m not a veggie but for a simple, tasty, loaded plate of goodness this is hard to beat. It’s unpretentious and does good food.

Go-Go-Govindas! This place gives me hope for the vegetarianization of the World. The place is always full of mountain climbers, security guards and generally lovely people. Govindas disbands the image of vegetarians being kooky and a breed apart. The food is manna to a rumbling tummy and it wouldn’t surprise me to hear the staff have had training days in How-To-Heap. The amount of nutritious and deliciousness that is benevolently bestowed upon your ‘small’ plate is akin to the sugar loaf. I always ask for a ‘little bit of everything’, two fresh salads are the accompaniment and with a healthy glass of water, the total is 6.95 :O It is absolutely as tasty as Cornucopia and about half the price. Its a hive of information for mind, body, meditation and spiritual practices that are going on around the city too. So have a gander at their noticeboard and ledge of leaflets to broaden your Dublin activities.

Love this Place! As a veggie it’s hard to find somewhere totally veggie and tasty, friendly and inexpensive. I’ve been eating here for years, the only downside although it isn’t one is that you always leave full, even with a small plate! My fav is the paneer, i’m addicted to it!

The meal is very large for me. Beet and apple salad is very nice and the brown rice and other sides are pretty good with the price. Only it will be better if the mix veggie did not cooked so long. I will make my next visit if happened to be around.

Easily the best vegetarian food I’ve had. The price is great, especially for a small plate with a bit of everything: it’s 6.95, and very filling. Two could easily share a large plate, which is 10.45. It’s almost always quiet, a nice place to sit down for a while with a few friends, or alone. Typing this is making me hungry.

Travelling with someone who is a Vegetarian can be good too… sometimes. We came across this place which serves Vegetarian/vegan food. Govinda’s is owned by the Hare Rama Hare Krishna group. The food is healthy and made using fresh ingredients. It is also very cheap and you get lots of it. The most memorable for me were the Samosas. dang those are kinda addictive. Nice selection on the menu and good choice of lassi and milkshakes. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff.

I was unwillingly dragged to Govindas last year by a few vegetarian friends last year and boy, did I feel like a narrow minded arsehole after I ate some good karma eats. You can get a big plate or a small plate and load up on the various vegetarian/vegan dishes they have for about a fiver and tenner respectively. Your plate is literally LOADED with food and it’s all hearty and nutritious. It’s generally wedged at lunch time so it might be in your best interest to get a portion to go. Try the lasagne and make sure you get a slice of the homemade bread. Best white in Dublin.

There are four Govinda’s in Dublin — Aungier St, Merrion Row and Middle Abbey St. All are vegetarian and all are delicious. It’s mostly Indian and European flavours they use and the food is so tasty. During the summer months they use their own homegrown vegetables as much as possible — which I think is pretty impressive. Except foods like flavoured potatoes, samosa, bean stews etc. Now I am a major meat eater — to me, a meal is not complete without a big hunk of meat. So when I first experienced Govinda’s I was really surprised how much I enjoyed it and how satisfied I was after the meal. The location in Aungier St is a little small, and always has quite a few customers. it’s known around Dublin as having a great reputation and it always gets great reviews. They also have a Kirtan centre — somewhere where everyone is welcome regardless of age, sex, colour or religion. It focuses on Eastern Philosophy, Spirituality, Meditation and Yoga.
