It is not fancy and it is a bit noisy, but they make fantastic fried shrimp and flounder, and lots of it, for an excellent price. Hush puppies are great. Mac and cheese is not very good, but that’s not why I go there.

I have been eating here for over 35 years. Their seafood was the best then and that hasn’t changed.

This place has been a staple in eastern nc for as long as I can remember. You will receive excellent seafood at a price you will not believe. You could go to some overpriced chain restaurant and pay $ 25 for a meal that will not be as good as the one you eat here for $ 10. Great food with large portions.

I’ve been eating here since I was a little kid and have never been disappointed. You can’t go wrong with the shrimp and the hush puppies are the best I’ve ever had.

Very good family restaurant. It is family run and simple. The price is very reasonable. The food is good and plenty. Restaurant is very clean. This place puts the city of Winterville on the map.

The food was ok, but don’t order the crab legs unless you want to dip them in grease. They serve them with a bright yellow liquid they call butter, but it is a gross oil. When you ask for real butter or even to have them melt some of the margarines down they won’t. In fact, they can’t melt down the margarine because, I was told, the plastic will melt. Anyway, the crab looked good, but due to the incompetence, I had to send it back. Yes, that’s right, they’d prefer to take the crab back to serve me real butter. I can’t make this stuff up! Sadly, I won’t be going back.

Fried seafood done right everytime all the time. There is a reason this place has been in buisiness decades on end. I can always count the food to come to our table fresh hot out of the frier. Thier flounder is my favorite. My wife will always order the fried oysters. They are always plentiful in portions. We go out here with the family and the inlaws. We never purchase plates for the children being as there is so much food on a plate. Sixty dollars will feed 4 adults and three children and everyone at the table can’t eat another bite. Their hush puppies are delicious as light as you can expect one to be. The crab cake is flavorful and tasty. It is not the mostly crab crab cake, which I love, but for a well seasoned bread type crab cake it is better than most. The service ranges from excellent to sufficient. We go often enough to know which staff members deliver either. If you are looking for NC fried seafood within a nice family owned buisiness with plenty of sweet tea then this is your place to be.

The seafood is to die for. I had fried crab cakes, scallops and clam strips. It’s a older restaurant, but the food and service will not disappoint you. I will definitely be back when I’m in the area.

It’s an old«mom and pop» restaurant that has the best soft shell crab and scallops ever! Everthing is super fresh… mac and cheese is pedestrian but the hushpuppies made up for it. Our server Loria was fabulous, ask for her.

Ate here recently and loved the food. Had the special(baby flounder and shrimp) along with sweet tea and two sides. Food was great. Atmosphere is busy but quaint as several people were regulars which seemed like you were eating with extended family. I’m moving to Greenville and will make this a regular haunt.

ABSOLUTELYWONDERFUL! Delicious, hot food. Great service. Very reasonably priced. It was crowded and I see why! Still, they sat us quickly — less than 10 minutes. There were four of us, and every person was raving about how good everything was. We all loved it. If you haven’t ever been here, you have GOTTOGO! You will not be disappointed.

what? off the hook? Who knew there were so many people that lived in this part of town? It was crazy how busy this place was– even the to-go line was mad. I think most people call in their orders ahead of time. I have to say their hushpuppies were very tasty with a decent marinara sauce. The clam chowder was decent but I like the coastal variety better– more clams. The Maryland Style Fried Crabcakes had a decent amount of crab in them and tasted decent but not extraordinary. Cole slaw was fairly decent but the mac and cheese needed more flavor. Definitely get a bowl of gumbo, if nothing else. It’s filling with hearty sausage and mild spices. I’m impressed by the variety of the menu, plenty to chose from. I’ll have to go back and try them all. Service here was excellent. Even though there was long lines and it was crazy busy, all the employees here were professional and friendly. It created a good ambiance.

After eating at the Dixie Queen for the last 30+ years, I can honestly say they have some of the best seafood for the Greenville area — short of a drive to Morehead City! I recently returned to the area on business and decided to stop in for dinner. The experience was all too familiar to those evenings during my childhood when my parents would take us there for dinner and the line would be out of the door into the parking lot. Word of advice — arrive early during the weekends for sure! While the building and interiors are not much to look at, if you are craving a good seafood meal, at a reasonable price, then this is your place. If you are looking to cuddled with white gloves, a 4 course meal, wine and expensive dessert — this is not your local place! I love their fried oysters but decided to cut some calories that evening and have their Broiled Scallops which were much better than expected because as I looked around, everyone else was ordering and eating the fried seafood! The salad was pretty standard but fresh and the hush puppies… I could have eaten a dozen! Overall, this is one of the restaurants which the locals will recommend if asked and as a former local, I agree — they still have it after all these years so give them a try if you have a hankering for some great seafood.

I moved away from Greenville years ago, but when I come back and visit my mom, I always try to get a Dixie Queen meal. It’s possible that my earliest memories of eating out in Greenville involve Dixie Queen circa 1982. This place has been around a while and has never strayed from its bare bones interior. Sometimes the staff is nice, sometimes surly and take-out probably accounts for as much business as eat-in. I’d love to say in all my years eating here that I have an encyclopedic knowledge of the menu, but I don’t. The reason for that is the popcorn shrimp. These are hands down the best fried popcorn shrimp you will ever eat. Fried seafood simply does not get any better. The shrimp are tender and the batter is wonderfully light. Serving sizes are huge and although you know you shouldn’t eat the whole thing, you’ll make a go of it anyway because it’s so hard to stop eating the darned things. The cole slaw is first-rate and the house made cocktail sauce is perfect. Hush puppies are also THEBEST! I’ve enjoyed the fried oysters many times as well, but have had better; same with the deviled crab. Fried flounder is good, but not as good as the fried shrimp. Don’t waste your time with the broiled seafood. Seriously, eat healthy for the rest of week and make this your self-indulgent, unhealthy meal of the week. I guess if I had one big complaint it would be that the french fries suck. They’re bland, mushy, and just waste valuable stomach space that could be filled with those delicious fried shrimp.

Wow! I was taken here for dinner on Friday evening by a friend while on a trip to Grifton. She’s been going here for years and that’s about all she would say. We popped in around 5:15pm — 5:30pm, seated immediately and the place was already 90% full. It’s very basic inside, almost like a cafeteria, don’t let this full you. Our waitress came by took the drink orders and and was back in a flash with our glasses of Mt. Dew and an order of hush puppies for each of us. There was a big bowl full those butter already on the table. BTW, hush puppies are pretty much unlimited, as the waitress brought them to the table at least 3 times each without asking for more. We each ordered the fried shimp dinner, which comes with two sides, and again within just a few minutes of placing the order the entrée was on the table. This was really good shrimp. It was lightly battered, cooked perfectly and very tender. The cocktail sauce was excellent as well. The best way to describe its consistency would be to say it reminds me of a marina sauce. Thin and served at room temperature, not lumpy or cold. It is delicious, perfect for dipping and has a little bit of a spicy kick to it! By the time the meal was over the place had filled to capacity and there were others waiting in the lobby to get inside. If we had a Dixie Queen back home in Va. Beach I dare say they would put a lot of these seafood places out of business. What a great meal!

I first tried Dixie Queen when I was a student at ECU(circa 1993), and I have been a fan ever since. Just to let you know, I am not the sort of reviewer that puts a star out there just because. This restaurant wins, hands down, serving the best, freshest seafood, hush puppies and sweet tea on the east coast of NC. I love my home state and to get a taste of fantastic seafood, east coast home cooking style, this is a must! Thank you Dixie Queen for consistant great TASTE! :)

Down home seafood doesn’t get any better than this! If you are looking for a luxurious setting for eating dinner — than this is not your place. However, if you’re looking for fresh, hot & delicious seafood than this is you place. Everything you would expect from a country dinner is served here with a smile and a good attitude. Your seafood can come fried, broiled or even Cajun style. The sides are all good as well. Take out is always fast — you might want to call in on the weekends as the place tends to get crowded — and accurate. Thumbs up! I love this place!
