Larry’s Cookies

I love this place. The cookies are the real deal. Warm, chewy, freshly baked. The best I’ve had. They serve premium coffee and I come here every morning when I’m in the area. The pastries and donuts are good, too. They also have a few nice lunch items on their menu. I love their loaded baked potatoes! Bacon, cheese, broccoli, butter, sour cream, salsa… YUM! One is enough for a meal.
The service is always warm, welcoming, and fast. If I worked closer to the area, I’d be in here throughout the day to fuel up on all the delicious goodies they have on the menu. Oh, and now that the temperature is starting to climb as we get into Summer, their ice cream and milkshakes will really hit the spot!

It’s almost 100 degrees out and you decide that you want something chocolatey that hasn’t been done before near your building. You’re at Metro Center, you Unilocal «chocolate» and you see «Larry’s Cookies» come up. You think to yourself, «hmmm a nice chocolate chip cookie could be good right now. But I’m not going to the Old Post Office Building, maybe it’s time for a mini adventure!»
So you walk out in the heat, you walk towards the allure of a fresh chocolate chip cookie and you wander and review the directions on Unilocal indicating between 8^th and 9^th street. You finally find this plaza in between said streets and you wonder, «where could this cookie sanctuary be?»
You put your Nancy Drew hat on and decide that it must be in one of these buildings somewhere so you walk into one that says, «Food Court Downstairs.» You walk down the escalator and you see a sign that points you to Larry’s Cookies on the right. You make a right turn and what do you see? Why, the shiny, white interior of little Larry’s Cookies AND ICE CREAM!
«Well then.» You think to yourself, «I guess this is it. Let’s see if this journey was worth it.» At 2:00 in the afternoon you are left with a minimal selection of cookies, many muffins, ice cream and coffee and tea beverages. You choose to stay focused on your cookie mission and you choose the pecan chocolate chip cookie for $ 1.35 (including tax). You take your large cookie in it’s white bakery bag and you go back into the heat. You take a bite while in the plaza of K street towards Chinatown and you think to yourself,
«Was this worth it?» It’s a nice cookie, but not the best. It’s a little dry, it’s a little bland, but it’s ok. It is not worthy of another journey in 100 degree heat from the tourist haven of Metro Center to the wildnerness of lower K street. To paraphrase T-​Pain, «It’s two o clock in the pm. Work day got boring. You said you’re eating dessert soon. So I snuck off to K street…»

The cookies are amazing!

1. Cookies are not ready til 11:30am. Can’t satisfy my fix til then which is not good.
2. I arrived the other day at 3:20pm and didn’t see any cookies anywhere, only doughnuts and muffins. I asked where are the cookies and the cashier said ever so nonchalantly, «No cookies.» I felt like I was on an episode of Seinfeld w/​the Soup Nazi. I’m sorry but how are you going to be called Larry’s COOKIES and not have any COOKIES!!!
3. Larry’s Cookies in general are the best I’ve ever had. Next time I’ll go to the Pentagon City location which always has cookies in stock all day long.

Beat the line, order two of everything!!!
Everything is pretty good, but the vanilla ice cream is great!

I am a morning person. I strongly dislike afternoon meetings, especially sleep inducing high level strategery meetings, with the wrath of a thousand burning zzzzzzzzzz… I need something that will keep me awake!
Try to take notes? Then other people think I know what I’m talking about. Gum? Didn’t work last time. Water? Then I’ll probably have to urge to go the whole time. Chips? Too much crunching. Candy? Wrapper too loud. Cookies? Kind of messy, but sounds like a delicious plan. Larry’s will probably be out of cookies by now… how about MILK SHAKE!
So I made a quick trip to Larry’s with visions of milkshakes dancing in my head, but those came to a quick stop when I noticed they still had cookies. Chocolate chip pecan cookies. Hurray!
Hm…chocolate chip pecan cookies may be messy in this meeting and it’ll probably be bad to be eating. How about one cookie as a reward for making it through the meeting, and one more for making it without falling asleep?
In retrospect, the smart thing to do would have been to get a milkshake AND the cookies. D’oh!
P. S. Success! Two cookies for me!

This has to be part of the Larry’s Cookies chain, based on the name. However, I’ve been to a couple other Larry’s Cookies and this one is by far the best. The cookie recipe is undoubtedly different and much better — less cakey. The cookies sell-​out right after the lunch rush. The also make UNBELIEVABLE milk shakes. They are very thick and based on one of the dozen or so flavors of ice cream they offer. They also have coffee etc. Only local office workers and hotel guests know about this place since it’s located below ground next to the TechWorld Post Office.
