When I found one part of my glases were bent at the temple, I called them and they said to come on in and they fixed it without an appointment at no charge.
They also set up my next exam in March. I like this location better that Congressional North because its in the same building, but they’ve moved east a block to Massachusetts Ave, because they are renovating Techworld.

I have been going to the MyEyeDr in Dupont Circle for the longest time but since I moved to Chinatown, I now goto the Chinatown location. This location is just as great as the Dupont Circle (one which I always consider one of these best) location when it comes to amazing staff. And it certainly helps that one of their best employee moved from Dupont to the Chinatown location!!! Their people really do go out of their way to make you happy. And what an incredible selection of frames!

The Dr was great, but what really stood out were the optical specialists because I spent much more time with them. I worked with Candice to choose my glasses– she spent at least an hour walking me around to try evey option in the store and choose what looked best. When I discovered I didn’t have my most recent FSA card she didn’t blink. She simply ordered my contacts for delivery to my house, took the measurements for my chosen frames and put all the information in my file for when I returned. On my second visit I worked with Terrance to check the measurements and order the frames. He was quick and professional. He ensured that I received the best discounts, the lenses I wanted were covered by my insurance, and walked me through every cost on my bill. And then he ensured that Candice, the original specialist, received credit. Neither of these folks works at this location anymore, but when I picked up my glasses I worked with a third specialist that is a regular there (didn’t get her name) and was equally as thorough, but respectful of time. Everyone I’ve interacted with here has been helpful friendly and responsive of whatever I needed. Overall the experience was great and I’ll definitely be back when it’s time for new frames.

I got what I thought was a very thorough and professional eye exam from the doctor and excellent customer service and assistance from Terrance when I was picking out my glasses. I have to have progressive lenses (ie I’m getting old) so getting frames that will work, that still look good can be a chore. He was a great help and worked with me to get the best price.
It may be that I’m naturally cheap or that it’s been awhile since I’ve bought new glasses but I did have some sticker shock when I figured out what I was going to spend, otherwise I’d have given them five stars.

I had an emergency and needed a pair of contacts quickly. Luckily, I work right next to a MyEyeDr and I called to see if they could help… Reyes was SO HELPFUL! quickly and easily found my contact brand and prescription and had them ready and waiting for me with contact solution to boot– which of course is very necessary!

Dr. Neagle was pleasant. The staff was pleasant during my annual eye exam. I prefer to buy my frames online but Jerome was very helpful & let me look at & try some frames on. I forgot to get my prescription as I was leaving & since it was on a Friday I had to wait until Monday to call. It’s Thursday now & after 5 phone calls to have them email/​fax them the prescription I’m writing this. I’m calling them tomorrow morning at 8:30 & will stay on the line until I get the prescription emailed. Wish me luck!

I’ve had two very bad experiences here, and one pleasant experience, which unfortunately, could not make up for the hostile service. My wife, with whom I share insurance, likes Dr. Neagle. I went once, got glasses, totally fine. The next time I went, I made an appointment, confirmed, and arrived, only to be told, rather rudely, that they do t accept my insurance. I confirmed later that they did, and my wife went, had an appointment, and got contacts– on our instance, of course. I made another appointment. I was asked to confirm by text, which I did. I was called again and confirmed by phone. I was called a third time, this time to obtain my insurance information in advance. The person who called was blisteringly rude, and argued with aggressively that I was mistaken about what type of insurance I had, made some very strange accusations (?) about my not being honest about what was written on my insurance card (why would I do that) and refused to look up my insurance info on my wife’s account– which is under my name– to confirm I was covered. It was such a pushing conversation I just asked my appointment be cancelled. Nice doctor, my wife loves this place, but jeez have they been rude to me on these two occasions!

This was my second time here. The first time, I came in to get my contact lens exam and it was fine. This time, I just got vision insurance so I wanted to get contact lens and a new pair of glasses. The exam was fine. I think the contact lens fitting is too expensive ($ 120) and unnecessary even though I am getting the same kind as last year. Candace helped me with picking out a frame and was super helpful explaining the price and working to lower my cost with insurance, discount and rebate. I would come back here

This is the second time I’ve had a bad experience with Dr. Neagle and his crew at the gallery place location. I was astounded to receive a $ 140 copay for a mere yearly exam which lasted no more than 15 minutes. I was never made aware that a retina picture (which I did not ask for and was not given the option to decline) was an extra $ 20, nor that my prescription had suddenly become «premium» which my insurance once covers 10% of the cost for instead of the regular $ 40 copay for annual exams. After this fiasco, I was told I couldn’t have my contact and glasses prescription because to «verify» the prescription I had to use the trial lenses — meaning they would try to strong arm me again into ordering contacts from them at a high mark up. Save your time and your money and go elsewhere!

My experience here was literally the WORST experience with any shop I’ve ever had. I spent almost 60 days trying to work with them to receive usable glasses, which ultimately failed, and they kept BOTH my payment and the frames.
Originally, when I went in, I did not like the assembly-​line feel of the whole exam, and I probably spent maybe 10 minutes with an actual eye doctor. But other issues far outweighed that. The first set of lenses the office ordered were made of poly-​carbonate, despite my high astigmatism. Office staff gave me a really hard time about coming back in 2 days later, but I had terrible headaches, and I knew something was wrong. People like me, with very football-​shaped eyes, need lenses made out of flat plastic, a wholly different material. That’s something trained, knowledgeable staff should know.
Four weeks went by and their lab was unable to create usable lenses for me because they kept cracking, and failing quality control checks. At least 3 sets of lenses failed quality control, before I got set number 5, more than a month later. I again wore these glasses for 2 days and still felt like something was off. I just couldn’t focus my eyes to read, let alone drive. I went back in only to discover that (they said) their lab had made another mistake, improperly placing the point of focus on the lenses. Back it went.
2 or 3 weeks later, and another trip back to their office, when set of lenses #6 came in. And wouldn’t you know it, the staff was unable to fit the lenses in my glasses, because they were too large. The staff kept my glasses, and without any communication whatsoever, proceeded to send them out to their janky lab. Had they bothered to speak to me, I would have told them not to, because I wanted to talk to my insurance about going somewhere else. When I was trying to resolve the insurance and payment issues, because both I and VSP had already paid out for the exam and glasses months earlier, they gave us the run around.
Ultimately, they KEPT both my frame and the payment I and the insurance had made for them — to recoup their losses, they said. (Total was approx. $ 130 from insurance, and $ 153 out of my pocket), Yes, they kept BOTH my frame and my frame payment. Honestly, it was UNPROFESSIONAL and UTTERLY RIDICULOUS. So no, I can’t recommend this place, or its staff, or really anything about it. What an utter fiasco.

Went here for two successful eye exams in the past. After the third yearly exam, which involved an eye exam, contact fitting, special tests, new glasses, and a prescription for contacts, I was told my bill was over $ 700, because they stopped accepting my insurance. Wouldn’t that have been good to know BEFORE the appointment?
Then they told me if I paid the cost upfront, all I had to do was fill out an «out of network reinbursement» form with my insurance and they would reimburse me. Not true– my insurance doesn’t accept out of network places.

The doctor was professional and the staff were great. Helped me pick out a cute pair of glasses. I had no problems with them processing my insurance– they helped me to get the best deal. I would definitely recommend their office.

I had a great experience here. I went in because I needed new contacts, and they were very helpful in explaining my insurance to me, and what my options were. I also updated my glasses, and they texted me within a week saying that they were ready. The girl who helped me with my glasses was great. Overall, I would definitely go back!

Steer clear of this place. I had been a customer of MyEyeDr. when they were at Union Station and while it wasn’t the best, I never had a bad experience there. This office, however, it absolutely terrible. I went in last fall to have my eye exam and get new contacts. The optometrist was wonderful but the woman who processed my contact order was rude and condescending. When I told her I couldn’t afford to buy a pair of glasses in addition to my new contacts because my new contacts were far more than I thought they would be, she didn’t try to help me figure something out, didn’t try to see what my insurance might be able to do for me, all she did was tell me that maybe I should put it on credit. I let it go thinking it might just be an off day for her.
Cut to a few months later and my husband goes in for his eye exam. Again, the optometrist is wonderful but he sits down with the same woman to process his payment for glasses and she doesn’t even bother to say hello to him or acknowledge that he is sitting in front of her. No eye contact at all! She was dismissive, condescending, and rude to him as well. Apparently, if you aren’t willing to spend a lot of money on fashionable eye wear, she can’t be bothered to treat you like a human being. As he was leaving, the front desk staff told him his glasses would be done by April 30 or May 1 and they would call when they came in.
It is now May 9^th and we have not received a phone call, email, text, morse code, carrier pigeon … anything that would acknowledge that my husband’s glasses have arrived. Of course, we can’t call them either because of their ridiculous store hours. My husband is a school teacher and works from 8am to 5pm — so the weekends are the only times he has to get errands done but this office isn’t open on the weekends (an oversight on our part in coming here in the first place).
So here we sit — almost 2 weeks after my husband’s glasses were supposed to be in — with no glasses, no contact, and no way to go down there and see if they are there. I am going to have to take a morning off from my job to go down there and hope that they are there. I work in retail, I get bad days, I get that it can be really hard to deal with customers sometimes. That is why I try to be as kind and understanding to people in similar situations as I can. However, there is no excuse for how my husband and I were treated in this office and no excuse for the poor service received at this location. Once my husband has received his glasses, we will be traveling all the way back up to New York City to go to our old eye doctor rather than having to ever deal with this joke of a doctors office again.

Gallery Place location. Hours and location are super convenient for me. Staff was OUTSTANDING. I went in for my yearly eye exam, find a pair of prescription sunglasses, and get new lenses for my eye glasses. Entire process was super easy. The gal that helped me (Candice? Corinne?) was fun and extremely patient as I tried on nearly 35 different frames :) She Was even a sweetheart when I couldn’t decide, and told her I’d come back the next day with my partner, who has much better taste than I do :) All said, I paid an extremely fair price, and had a lovely time with the staff.

I had a great experience here all around. I was particularly impressed with their policy on providing the PD upon request and free of charge. I will definitely be going back next year.

Honestly, they were great, and I didn’t have high expectations, so they blew me out of the water. I waited too long to renew my prescription so used this place as a last resort — never expecting to buy my contacts or glasses from them. In short, they got me in quickly, gave me an excellent exam (and Ive been wearing glasses/​contacts since childhood — I know the difference), the front desk did what they could to get the best insurance outcome, and Larry very patiently and reasonably helped me find a pair of glasses that I love. As for the earlier comment about homophobia and racism… I had the exact opposite experience. Guess you have to see for yourself.

The staff at MyEyeDr was wonderful. Jackie was patient and made sure I tried on various glasses before my eyes became blurry from the dilation. She even helped me compare the frames to my current ones and priced out the LivingSocial deal versus my insurance.

Wow. Most unprofessional place I’ve ever been. Not to go into details but the homophobic comments during my visit were disgusting. Hearing this, I can only imagine what they say about people behind their backs. This place belongs in texas or mississippi or something. Not DC quality. Avoid these homophobic, racist jerks.

The staff at MyEyeDr at Gallery Place were incredible and so accommodating. My sunglasses broke so I went in to try to see if the staff could put in a new screw and repair them. However, they weren’t repairable. Instead of just giving them back to me and saying sorry, Larry and another staff member said they could give me another pair of sunglasses without charge.
They went above and beyond great customer service! I recommend them for anyone looking for eye wear!
