Let me start by saying that I was skeptical about going into this place but I am glad I did. The service is great. The food is excellent. I got the meat lovers lunch special; it started with a tasty salad, miso soup and I believe to be pork wonton. Then the meat and rice came and I have to say that the meats were well seasoned. I will be back to try more items on their menu.

Gyu-Kaku is hands down one of the best restaurants out there! Such great staff and the food is always amazing!

Friendly service and efficient. Server was happy to explain their extensive menu. You may grill your meal on a built in table top grill or option of other items cooked for you such as Ramen. Many option lunch and happy hour menu too. Food tastes great. Grilled our own beef, chicken and pork lunch special. Prices are reasonable. Outdoor dining with shade option.

Love this place and tried the tofu nuggets, asparagus, corn with cheese and of course the cheese noodles!!! My boyfriend had the spicy Kirk, shrimp and was very satisfied and we also saved room and shared a mango macaroon!!! Our new favorite place and we get points too

This is my favorite place to eat by far one of the greatest spots to enjoy a good meal and atmosphere. Plus you cook it yourself…

A very pleasant surprise. Came here about a week ago and the first thing that struck me was that the service was top notch. Our server was knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. The food was great. Got a bit of everything and while it wasn’t all to my taste I could tell that it was not due to a lack of quality meats. The appetizers were delicious, house sake was just fine(much the same as you get anywhere) and being able to make your own s’mores brought me back to my childhood. A great way to cap off a meal. I’ll be back happily.

Had an awesome experience last night here. Went for happy hour and made out like a bandit! First of all, the staff is extremely attentive and friendly. We were quick to be seated and seen by our server. We got appetizers ordered(HIGHLY recommend the ahi tacos. Delicious!) as well as a few a la carte items off the menu. The meats(filet mignon, beef short ribs, pork belly) were all seasoned perfectly. We also tried the teriyaki chicken bowl for the less adventurous little one. Everything came out in a timely manner, we didn’t feel rushed, and had a great dinner. Looking forward to going back again!

Pros. The hostess’s are fantastic and always remember us. The servers, Jasmine, James, Patrick, Ben Chris and all others make dining a pleasure, we never feel rushed and always very special. Oak is the Owner extroidinare and makes everything superb. Patti and Ice are the managers and answer any and all questions and special request to make your dining a truly great experience. Super happy hour is just that, Super. My personal favorites are the edamame, grill your own shishoto peppers, yaki shabu, and suki yaki bibimap. This is a fantastic place for casual dining. Cons. I rightly cannot think of any :)

I love eating here. It’s pretty much always happy hour. And they serve Sapporo in a mega mug. Make sure you get one of those. Try the sirarcha chicken wontons and the chicken garlic noodles. I usually order the torro beef and spicy yaki shabu and add extra spicy sauce to everything I order. Don’t forget to thank your chef joe.

First off, the food is good. It is small portions and a little spicy but there are a bunch of options and it’s worth it during the happy hour! The service and atmosphere were irritating. I’m not sure if it is normal or just our server, but it took us a minimum of 20 minutes to get our RAW meat. On top of that, we only ordered a few items and we were given them all separately with huge gaps of time. We got the cabbage first out of everything and there was about a 10 minute wait in between that and the next plate. Our server was nice. The worst part was it felt like we were sharing a table(we technically were) with another couple. Additionally, it was dark and the music was so loud I could hardly hear my father from across the table(and they’re small tables!!) and our server had to get really close to us in order to hear us, which was uncomfortable.

ALLDAYHAPPYHOURONMONDAYS! WOO! They recently changed their menus so a few things are gone, and a few things have been added. I’ve only been here during lunch time so I normally order either the Signature Cut Set($ 12.95) or the Meat Lover’s Set($ 10.95) since I don’t have to take forever to decide on what meats to get. The sets also come with miso soup, an appetizer, salad, and rice. My friend got the Shrimp Tomato Parmesan Garlic Noodle Set($ 10.95). The flavor was there but the noodles were slightly under cooked. *HAPPYHOUR* If you don’t come for the food, at least come for the really cheap drinks. You can get a bottle of beer for $ 2.95, a Sapporo Draft for $ 1.95, a 34oz Mega Mug of Sapporo for $ 4.50, or a jumbo hot sake for $ 8. Plus, they have $ 4 cocktails for happy hour too(reg. $ 5)! If you want a good appetizer, I highly suggest the Spicy Ahi Tuna Poke. If you download the Gyu-kaku app, then you’ll get $ 5 off your purchase and earn points toward free food. The only gripe I have with this place is that I wish all the locations had the same appetizers. If only they had the lobster nuggets and spicy tuna tacos like the one in Sherman Oaks, then this location would get all the stars.

The deals during Happy Hour sounded interesting but I was concerned after reading the negative reviews. I’m afraid I ran into some of the same issues that so many others have. The portion size was fine but the prices were high and the flavor was so-so. I would have been happier and would have spent half the money if we’d gone to my favorite Thai place in Newhall. If I had paid full price I would have been angry. So you can probably skip this place.

I had NO idea what to expect when I showed up. I had my wife order for me, and ended up getting the meat lovers. From the picture I was under the impression that I was getting sushi. As my platter was presented to me, I picked up my chopsticks, ready to dig in. Fortunately the server stopped me and recommended cooking times to the associated stacks of meats that were sitting in front of me. Say no more– I won’t try and eat this raw. The times they tell you are a guideline, most likely to save them from lawsuit if you end up under-cooking all of your food. I had filet, rib meat, something like a flank steak, shrimp, and finally something that was very thinly cut and very fatty. Let’s call it beef bacon. Everything had a «healthy» ribbon of fat running through that made the grill catch on fire randomly and make for a delectable crispy crunchy bite, almost every time. As I said, the cooking times are a guideline, so if you just monitor your food, and don’t over-cook anything, each bite is exquisite. Couple that with their sauces, sweet soy, spicy/sweet soy, and ponzo and you’re setting yourself up for a nice little meal. We finished off our afternoon with a s’more– cooked to whatever done-ness you prefer. I don’t care how old you get, you’ll never be too old for a s’more. Now that I know what«Japanese BBQ» is, I foresee a lot more of it in my future.

First Time here. Everything was exceptional. I honestly don’t like to cook my own food when I dine in but hey mine as well try it plus kids wanted to experience the Japanese dining. They both enjoyed it food was great and worth the price… Staff was very attentive and very knowledgeable. I don’t do Japanese food like that, but honestly I prefer Korean bbq overall. But this place gets my 4 stars…

Came here for their happy hour. When we arrived to to our table, tongs were already set for us to use. They were not clean at all… old dried meat was stuck between the tongs. Pretty gross way to start off a meal… I guess they were really short staffed, because we waited over 10 minutes for our order to be taken. Several times during our meal, we had to flag someone down for assistance. But other than that the service was decent and the waiter was friendly. We ordered from the happy hour menu. I actually lost my appetite so didn’t really feel like eating much. The food tasted just okay. Nothing really worth pointing out or mentioning. I cannot imagine paying full price for the items we ordered. The prices during happy hour seem more reasonable. Gyu Kaku left something to be desired… Probably won’t be returning anytime soon…

I came here for super happy hour at 8:30 and loved this place! This is one of those bbq at your table kind of places, but there’s also menu items that don’t require any more than the effort of lifting the chopsticks to your mouth. I tried their spring rolls, garlic chicken, chili dumplings, and smores off their super happy hour appetizer menu. All of these were delicious! The chili dumplings were a bit too spicy for my taste, but I am pretty sensitive to food like that. Their drinks are yummy too! All of their cocktails contain sake or saju rather than hard alcohols. I tried their Woo Woo, it was pretty and pink and yummy! The chocolate lover in me was just too excited to try the smores, even though by dessert time I wasn’t even hungry. Smores taste so much better when you roast your own mash mellows over an open flame! The service here was also spot on. We were seated immediately and our waiter checked on us frequently to make sure we were all doing ok. Everyone was friendly as well. Best part of this place: the bill. The bill? Yes, the bill! For the three of us to share the aforementioned appetizers and our own alcoholic beverages our bill was a mere $ 20! For three people to be full at the end of the night, that is awesome! I will definitely be coming back here again!
