Needed to find a great, small and traditional sushi bar, so decided to try it… I got there at 5pm, sat at the bar, ordered yellowtail, ankimo, mackerel, seared albacore and a salmon skin hand roll and must say, the fish was generously cut and the salmon skin was great! I will go back…

good sushi in Valencia? we had our share of doubt as well… walking into the establishment, I was immediately greeted with jarring screams from the chef behind the bar… apparently he likes to toss comical insults to unsuspecting first time customers… Service was quick… We ordered OMG roll and spicy tuna roll… fish tasted fresh, good flavor to the soft shell crab in omg roll The good experience with the rolls did not carry over with the ramen… we ordered miso ramen w/extra pork belly and original ramen, broth is mediocre, the noodles are average, and there was hardly any substance in the bowl (This entry was written by my husband)

(Dined 03÷08÷13 F @ 1pm): Sushi?! Yeah! I rarely left my desk and ventured outside of the building to grab a bite since I always packed a lunch, but work’s been a bitch of late and I REALLY needed to get out. So I suggested Sushiya Bar & Grill because it was off the«campus» yet a close drive away, and my colleague and I craved sushi. We both liked to try new things, so with my handy-dandy Unilocal app I found this place with its 4-stars, and we were down for it. We hopped into my Toaster and headed out to leave work behind if only for awhile. We also wanted to be away from other colleagues, but most importantly to have a drink. We arrived halfway through their lunch hour, but the place wasn’t busy at all. I noticed three tables and a couple seats at the sushi bar that were being used. We were seated in the middle of the restaurant which was perfect to scope the place out. Armed with menus, it took us awhile to order since it was our first time and we were starving so everything looked good. We were dry and needed to buy us some time so we started off and each ordered a large Sapporo beer($ 6.95 ea.). Once those heavenly bottles came to our table, we poured the amber liquid into our chilled glasses, took a healthy swig, and we were ready to order: the lunch special Combo O(2pc sashimi and California roll or spicy tuna roll — $ 18.95) for me and the lunch special Combo N(8pc sushi and California roll or spicy tuna roll — $ 12.95) for my female colleague. We later ordered smaller bottles of Sapporo($ 4.95 ea.) and a miso soup($?) for her. Each of our combos also came with a nice simple side salad with thousand island dressing and potstickers, which merely whetted our appetites for the main event; nothing special to note for either. Finally our meals came out and it was on! The spicy tuna roll pieces were a good size and truly were a mouthful. Lacked the spiciness but I liked the sesame seeds and all ingredients were fresh. Now the various sashimi was impressive just by the size of each piece alone. God bless you for not skimping on the cuts! And again, the freshness was obvious as eat succulent piece appeared to melt in my mouth. I dipped them into some soy sauce and wasabi but they were better unadulterated. The service was very good from our hostess/server, Karissa, as she sat us quickly, promptly gave us menus and was basically ready to take our orders. Damn, chica! She didn’t offer any water, but we didn’t ask either. She checked on us periodically, got us our check quickly, and generally a nice person. Parking was decent as they shared a lot with many other business in this strip mall across from the BMW car dealership. Be warned that there were an unusual amount of green«10-minute parking» spots(WTF!?) and the spots are slim(thank goodness we were both skinny). Overall, Sushiya Bar & Grill was a good choice and the Unilocal reviews didn’t disappoint. I’m not quite sure about the«bar & grill» in the name, though. I found really good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above(total bill was around $ 66.00 before tip), so a bit more than what I expected for a lunch special, but I felt the quality of the fish made up for it. The atmosphere/décor was like any usual sushi place with wooden tables and chairs placed about in a fairly open floorplan, with ample seating at the sushi bar, but undecorated non-motifed walls that bordered on boring. There were two TVs behind the sushi bar at good eye level. Nothing fancy at all. The attire was casual, so on a non-workday, I’d be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. And they accepted my credit card of choice… AMEX!
