I was surprised on the bad reviews. We enjoyed the food, good service, beautiful views, outside deck eating over looking the lake, large fireplace with a big bull Moose n large Deer or a Elk. The only negative thing is that there were not too many items on the menu, we went in the late afternoon in between lunch and dinner. My friend had the grilled chicken on Cesar salad. It was a large Cesar salad with ample grilled chicken. It had Crispy romaine lettuce with croutons, crispy cheese and shredded cheese as well, Greek olives, fresh grape tomatoes, crispy croutons. He loved and It tasted yummy. I had French onion soup with Gruyère. Very yummy. I had the delicious 1915 burger which it was a perfectly medium rare, juicy. I liked the Arugula instead of lettuce too. The fries were fresh and crispy.

Stayed at the Lodge this past weekend and contrary to the reviews I read the food was great. We had burgers for lunch one day – perfectly prepared and high quality beef. Dinner was outstanding – service was good, but slow – seemed like too many tables and not enough servers. We had the Sunday brunch as well, which I don’t recommend. The food was good, but the selection was sparse and ordering off the menu would have saved money and provided a larger selection. Overall I was very pleased. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars was the slow service at dinner.

Very disappointing. We had been to the Bear Mountain Inn before the renovation and it was a nice brunch. Not so any more. Though the setting continues to be lovely, the brunch is terrible. There are perhaps 6 heated bins, and that’s it. For vegetarians, there’s nothing there. We chose the a la carte menu. $ 7 for an omelet isn’t bad, until you add in the prices for potatoes and toast, both separately listed. So you wind up with a $ 10 – 12 omelet, which is pretty steep for an omelet, but maybe it’s worth it. It’s not. You can do better at a diner.

This was one of the most disappointing meals of my life. I had very fond memories of Bear Mountain Inn and was hoping for an experience like I had previously had. Unfortunately the grand buffet and exceptional service are a thing of the past. We had 2:30 reservations for Fathers Day 2014. We got there early and there were plenty of tables. We asked if we could sit by a widow. We were told no, they were for parties of five. We were a party of four including two seniors who clearly would have loved to sit near the window. Shortly later, a party of three was sat there. This set the tone. The staff was very confused. We got three different interpretations of what was included with the buffet. The buffet consisted of eggs, bacon, crepes and potatoes and no other hot choices. However, not only was the buffet sparse, but everything was cold. When brought to the attention of the manager they did nothing for the hour or so we were there. An omelet ordered off the menu came alone on a big plate. Everything was a la carte. The lack of attention to detail is astounding. What a huge difference a lit sterno under the buffet or a lousy piece of toast served with the omelet would have made. Hampton Inn’s free breakfast far surpasses this one. The NYS Department of Parks and Recreation owns the facility and rents it out to a vendor to run the concession. I can only hope that the contract is up soon!

This place is awful. DONOTPATRONIZETHISPLACE. The service was appallingly bad, the help appeared to be confused as to how to do their jobs, the food was served barely warm, and the portions were laughingly small. were on a bus trip which included lunch here. When we arrived at around 2pm, the place was nearly empty. Our group of 11 picked a table and sat down. In short order, we were asked to move to another table for no apparent reason. After moving and waiting for service, my wife asked a passing waitress if she could take our drink order. Reluctantly, she agreed. When asked, we were told that we could not order beer or liquor. They next brought out two baskets of rolls — eight rolls for 11 people. There were no bread plates on the table, so people were breaking their rolls on the table. Ugh! We each had a small salad, which had been placed on the table before we arrived. After eating the salad, other tables began to fill up. Almost immediately, the waitstaff began taking their orders. Each of us had a card noting our pre-chosen orders, chicken or salmon. A waiter eventually took our orders. Shortly after that, waiters brought alcoholic drinks to other tables, and started serving them their meals, even though they arrived after us. My wife reached her breaking point and asked a passing waitress why we waiting for our orders when others who arrived after us were receiving theirs. The waitress began a lame explanation, which we had no desire to hear. Minutes later, a waiter appeared with my wife’s order. At least another ten minutes elapsed before the rest of us, except one received our lunches. Finally, a waitress was wandering around with a meal and a person to give it to. As she walked past us, we had to yell to her that it belonged to the last person in our group. The food was barely warm when it was served andThey must have used a melon baller to serve the mashed potatoes. It was obvious that neither the management nor the help could care less about service. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Can you give a place No Stars ? We had visited this restaurant as part of Hudson Valley Restaurant week. When we arrived they told us that they were not participating, even though the web site clearly indicated they were. No special menu or pricing. We raised this to the attention of management with no resolution. We figured we traveled all the way here, and the place looked really nice, so might as well order and enjoy a meal. The service was non-existent, The food was bland, and overpriced for what you got. Save yourself the time, and aggravation and look somewhere else. Serious let down.

Came for a late lunch 2:30 ish. The building, grounds and views are beautiful. Service was very good and not a problem at all. I do have to say that we all ordered salads and the portions were laughable. It was like a cup of lettuce and ¼ grilled chicken breast on top. No bread on the table and 6 drinks we were at $ 125 plus $ 25 tip server was nice. So $ 150 for minuscule salads and drinks. Next time we will stop and eat someplace before heading there.

We drove all the way here for restaurant week. We called in the morning to verify they were doing it on a Sunday and we were pleased they said they were. We made 2:30 reservations. When we arrived we were told they are NOT doing restaurant week today. We were given menus and the first 2 items we ordered, we were told they were out of. Coffee came with no spoon or creamer. We had to ask for both. We asked for more coffee, it took forever to arrive. We have been waiting now for 40 minutes and the food we did order, still has not arrived. The building and the park are spectacular. The dining experience so far is crap-taclar.

If I could give negative stars I would. We went for Sunday Brunch. My DH has fond memories of going here as a child. The place has ad a nice make over, the addition of an inn and spa… All seemed promising. When we looked at the brunch it looked disappointing… As in the food had been sitting out for a LONG time. So we ordered off the menu. I had the worst omelette of my life… Way over cooked and the English muffin wasn’t toasted. The coffee gets cold in two minutes, slow on refills. My DH grilled sandwich was ice cold, and the cheese hadn’t melted. The prices are pretty high, and everything is a la carte. Ordering an omelette is just that… Toast, home fries… All extra. The service was very polite and friendly. They credited our bill for my meal. Need a new chef!

I hesitated in even giving one star for this review, we had a pretty bad experience overall. We went to celebrate a birthday. It took bout 15 minutes before we flagged down a waitress to even get a drink order in. We ordered a few appetizers and a bottle of wine. Once the food finally came out it was under whelming at best. No napkins or utensils were brought out. We had to once again flag down the staff to get them. When the bus boy came to clear our plates he proceeded to knock my entire glass of wine onto my bag and all over the floor. Yes he did apologize and immediately said he would go get me a fresh glass from the bar. Did it ever come… Of course not. I had to ask our waitress for a glass so I could enjoy the bottle we had purchased. It was terribly disappointing and I will not be returning!!!

I feel bad that the other reviewers of this restaurant had such a bad experience. My husband and my friend went here for brunch today and we really liked the place. We came at 11:00 am, which is a great time to come as they weren’t too busy yet. The only thing that kind of sucks is you have to pay $ 8 for parking, but the lot is large and we were able to find a good space. The only thing I would recommend to the Inn and/or park is to put better signs indicating the restaurants inside of the Inn. We accidentally went up the hill to the Overlook Lodge thinking the restaurant was in there, when actually it is in the Bear Mountain Inn. We got a nice table facing one of the mountains, but it would have been nice to get a table overlooking the lawn instead of the parking lot. Maybe next time we will put in a special request, if they take reservations(not sure if they do) to get a table overlooking the lawn. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful. It is all warm dark wood walls and high ceilings and gorgeous wood floors. There is a big beautiful stone fireplace on the far wall of the restaurant, and the restaurant itself is on the second floor of Bear Mountain Inn looking over the large lawn and the mountains. Our waitress, Rose, was super friendly, quick and attentive without being too intrusive. We had our drinks promptly filled and our check brought out timely as well. We all ordered off of the menu. I had a ham and cheese omelet, with a side of buttered wheat toast and apple smoked bacon. All of my food was very delicious — no complaints at all! And the portions were just right to be full, but not stuffed. My husband had the pulled pork sandwich which I had a bit of. I wasn’t crazy about the pickles(my own issue!), but the pork was flavorful and moist. And the french fries! Awesome! My friend had the belgian waffle, which was yummy and just the right amount of food, since she wasn’t all that hungry. The best part was that it was $ 34 for three of us! It would have been more expensive had we done the buffet, and it didn’t look like the buffet had a lot to choose from… however, you do get complimentary beverages with brunch :) I definitely will come back here for a nice romantic dinner and maybe sit at the bar for drinks and dessert.

If I could give less stars, I would. We came to Bear Mountain Inn to celebrate our friends getting married and the only reason we’ve eaten here(twice) was because there are no other restaurants in walking distance. We will never, ever come back. Read below for more details. For the first meal, we arrived for a late lunch around 2:30p and sat at the bar(Blue Tapas Bar). Not because it was busy(it wasn’t) but because the tennis tourney was on tv. We ordered quickly(within 5 min) and waited 40 min until we finally asked if our salads(yes, two salads — that’s it) where coming out soon. He went and checked and apologized because they lost our ticket. He said they were making it right away and that we would be comped because it had been so long. Finally our salads came out 10 min later and looked like someone just threw the ingredients in a bowl and sent out to us. Prob took 2 minutes to make. We ordered fries, because we were still hungry. We got our bill and we were charged the full amount of our meal!!! We had been there so long, we just paid and left. The second meal was for dinner. We were a group of five and the place wasn’t too busy again(should have taken this as a sign). We ordered wine, bread and a couple of apps. The $ 12 tomato app was not even a whole tomato, it was probably 2⁄3 of a tomato with a tiny dropping of goat cheese. It was absolutely ridiculous. The mozzarella ball was fine in the 2nd app. We then all ordered our meals. The veggie mushroom dish for $ 20 was two thin sticks with a few chunks of mushrooms on top… seriously? I ordered the large 14oz steak for me and my boyfriend to share with a few other sides. The steak was $ 36 and sides were $ 5 a piece. We got it and the steak was very fatty and definitely not worth $ 15 let alone $ 36! Yet, we had a birthday at the table so we asked for a cookie dessert and coffee. The cookie was decent… should not have taken another 30 min to get after we ordered though. All and all, we were at dinner for a good 3.5 hours. We got our bills and I was charged $ 8 for a share plate! $ 8 for a low grade piece of meat that probably cost them less than $ 8 to begin with. Once I leave, I will never, let me repeat, never come to this place again and will share with every person I know in or coming to this area.

For a small café in a state park, this joint has really good coffee. I don’t think I could say much more than that. Certainly not a place worth going out of your way for, but if you’re at bear mountain, and looking for a snack, this will suffice nicely.

This place was the pits. It took us forever to be served. After waiting a good twenty minutes for the food I had to get up and corral our waiter to ask what was taking so long. While I was talking to him the manager came over and tried to get him to stop what he was doing and have the waiter follow him. I said to the manager, not very politely, that he was engaged with a costumer. The manager just gave me a nasty look and left without a word. the waiter then went into the back and immediately emerged with our lunch. Ice cold. This was a burger and two grill cheese sandwiches. after we sent it back, it returned warm. when the check arrived I had to send it back just so it would reflect my order. Do yourself a favor and drive somewhere else. It is located in the Bear Mountain Inn, but If I stay here again I will just tell myself that there is no food available, and walk to the terrible, but better concession stand located a short walk from here, in the park. Or better yet drive somewhere else.
