Well we should have known it would not be all that great. I mean what Buffet restaurant is good? At first the food LOOKED good, but it all taste so bland, dry and over cooked. Definitely not worth the money and definitely will not be back. Sorry guys, it’s not worth your time or money at this Buffet.

Food sucks really bad! This place is dirty especially their restrooms! You’re better off going to golden corral

The food is good, but the bathrooms seem like they are never cleaned, they smell really bad and they are dirty. The people at the front desk charge you a higher price then what is on the sign… the sign says the price is $ 12.99, but they tell you it is $ 14.00. I would give this place 3 to 4 stars if the bathrooms did not look and smell like a bad gas station restroom.

A typical buffet with a difference. I like their selection of meats prepared in different ways ranging from American, Chinese to Spanish. The ribs here is humongous, so is the fajita meat.

After passing this place and always seeing it packed I decided to stop in and try it. First off you go in and you pay at the door. $ 14 after tax, which is about average for a weekend buffet. For as big as this place looks from the outside I was expecting a lot bigger selection of food. It looks like what they do is try to have a mixture of Chinese, Mexican, Seafood, and American foods. Which in theory sounds good, BUT the selection of each type of food is really small so it doesn’t work. For instance they have beef/chicken fajitas, tamales, taco meat, rice, beans, and tortillas… which is the extent of their Mexican selection. As far as the food quality itself for what they do have: it was so so. Some things better than others. Wouldn’t call it the worst I’ve ever had, but it’s certainly far from the best. The positives are the drink is included in the price of dinner, you serve your own drinks so it doesn’t seem like tipping is something you need to do here. All in all it’s not somewhere I’d return to.

Having moved out of the SW Houston area recently, I now visit Americas Buffet only every 4 – 6 weeks. In late January I returned to find the restaurant had AGAIN raised their prices. This is the second time within a 12 month span and the third time within two years. Lunch and weekend breakfast now cost in the $ 11 range. Dinner is over $ 12. Seniors still get a meager 5% discount. No longer a steal, Americas Buffet is now moderately priced. After having jacked up their prices, what new things, if any, have been added to their buffet spread? Nada, a big fat nothing. While food costs have spiraled upwards in the last two years, it is obvious Americas Buffet has also done nothing to control its costs. Employees still fill up styrofoam containers with food to take out to friends & family in the middle of the day. I’ve also noticed no take out purchases are checked and no rules are in place for what or how much can be loaded into the containers. Take Out customers regularly load up on high cost items like grilled steaks, beef fajitas, shrimp, and, on weekends, bacon. Want beef fajitas for two for only $ 7, this is the place to get them. At the Mexican restaurant next door you’ll shell out $ 15 easily. Everyone who eats bacon knows it and other pork products have recently doubled in price. Also, given the noticeable shrinkage in cooked bacon means a pound of uncooked bacon only yields 6 – 8 ounces when cooked. On my last visit I noticed an Asian lady and her son pick up take out styrofoam containers and heap them both with cooked bacon. Nothing else, just cooked bacon. I have seen this lady do this repeatedly on previous visits. Nothing has ever been said to «Bacon Lady,» as I call her, and no one seems to check the contents of her containers. Most cost conscious restaurants stipulate the container can only be filled with a quarter or third of any single item. Obviously not here. Where else can you get 16 – 32 ounces of cooked bacon for less than $ 6 a pound? People like«Bacon Lady» and her son«Bacon Boy» drive up costs, costs which Americas Buffet then passes on to other customers by raising prices. I pointed this out to one of the owner’s relatives, a Chinese lady, but I seriously doubt anything will ever be done to remedy the matter. The owners are indifferent and blind. They aren’t the sharpest pencils in the room. Losses will still continue and Americas Buffet will still pass them along to other customers. Personally I’m tired of paying for Bacon Lady and Bacon Boy’s weekly sprees and the restaurant’s financial ineptitude. Perhaps the price increases will result in fewer parents taking their rowdy children out to eat here. One can only hope.

If you are hungry and on a budget, this is the place to go for your daily basis. Dinner price is 11.95 for weekdays, and 12.95 for weekend adult dinner. If you are not picky about selections, it is alright place, but if you don’t like those fried and baked foods, there isn’t much options for you.

2.5 stars. Half a star for drinks being included in price. Went there for lunch($ 10.99 and 4.99 for kids 3 – 6). Decent selection ranging from typical American food, to some Chinese, and Mexican. Like most buffets, some things are decent and others not so much. Overall, the food was ok. Biggest disappointment was their salad and fruit selection. There were only 2 fresh fruit choices(cantaloupe and honeydew) and they weren’t ripe. At all. All the other fruit were from cans! Mac n cheese was a horrible watery soupy concoction(this matters if you have kids).

This was a decent buffet with various foods ranging from American, Mexican, and a little Chinese. Drinks are included in the price. Service and food was alright. There was a large salad bar and a good selection and amount of food. Food was kept full with no empty food trays, and most of it was all warm or hot. There was not a lot of selection with the dessert — just some cookies, cakes, cobblers, and an ice cream machine. My girlfriend and I had about 2 full plates each with ice cream for dessert. Stand outs were the mac & cheese, seasoned fries, buffalo wings, and ribs. When they give you your receipt at the front desk, they also give you a ticket to keep on the table to seat yourself and let the busboy know if you’re coming back/going to get food or leaving. Our table was cleaned and drinks put up before we even finished, and we didn’t even flip our ticket around to let him know we were leaving. So that was a bit irritating. Overall, it was okay. Nothing amazing. Probably would not go again unless invited.

If cheapness is the most important factor in deciding where to go eat, this is not it as you can pay less than half as much to fill you up at any of the fast food restaurants. If variety is the factor, then this might work as it has most basic stuff. If taste or dining experience is important factor, this is definitely not a place.

Typical Buffet… with a variety of meats cooked in all sorts of manners… they did have a decent salad bar and a good variety of steamed veggies… Kept clean… and service is good… A good deal if you on a budget and want to pretty much satisfy everyone’s wants… I am not a big fan of buffet cause I usually end up eating wayyyyyy tooo much!!!

A large amount of my family members were out of town during Thanksgiving holiday so the weekend after Thanksgiving when everyone returned, we decided to go out for some American food. Well. if we wanted American food, why not try a place that’s named for it? Thus began our journey to Americas Buffet. It seems pretty ironic, but I’m pretty sure the owner of this place is an Asian man. He seemed to be the«big boss» of this place and hired a bunch of Hispanic servers. So let’s just say, you might want to bring a Spanish speaking friend or an Asian friend to translate for you. Anyway, after my dining experience here, I think it’s undeniably true that they should step it up a notch… or 3. As we walked into Americas buffet, we saw the senior discount and the price per person. This place is pretty decent priced, it runs $ 10-$ 13 dollars per person. Not bad. Drinks are included(tea, soda, water, hot coffee, hot tea), you name it. Self serve, as much as you like, whenever you like. Then, onto the salad bar and fruit. There’s a nice variety; ruby red grapefruit, oranges, honeydew, watermelon, jello, pudding, bananas in that strawberry stuff… then onto the salad bar. Your typical lettuce, alfalfa sprouts, already pre-mixed salad, and just a few toppings.(I think they overlapped the baked potato toppings with salad toppings). There was your cheddar cheese, sour cream, bacon bits, olives, eggs, and tomatoes. How thrifty. Their selection of food is typical, you’ve got your fried egg rolls, baked fish, mozzarella sticks, fried chicken, and others… as well as some very sketchy looking crawfish, overly tough steak, and lots and lots of veggies. My favorite part of this whole buffet were the veggies. The broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, all of those were steamed to perfection and deliciously seasoned and buttery(that’s probably why I liked it– I’m deprived of butter and my parents are health nuts!). They have a variety of 4 different soups(beef+vegetable, chicken noodle, gumbo, chowder). I’m not sure if this changes on a daily or weekly basis or not. But the soups were decent. I really liked the beef and vegetable soup. To top off the night, I had some extremely good bread pudding, peach cobbler and vanilla soft serve ice cream. The bread pudding looks weird, but tastes like custard, it’s good folks. The reason for the 2 stars is that the food wasn’t served very hot… which makes this place seem a little sketchy, and the service was terrible. We ate fast, and we had so many plates piled up high on our table and still, several servers passed by and yet no one came to remove them. The tables and chairs were sticky, and the floor was extremely dirty(which makes you wonder how clean the kitchen is). Also, there was a fly in my grapefruit(fruit fly + fruit. I guess that’s «normal.» but still… I was really full by the end of the night, and I lived to see the next day, so I guess this place couldn’t have been that bad. If you’re looking to save a couple bucks and want some food to fill you up, then sure, come on in. You’ll live.

Oh those days where you just want to screw the diet, a buffet like American Buffet offers American favorites without the waiting. Conveniently located off of 59, I stop in when the what the hell am I in the mood for question doesn’t get resolved, and I have the big appetite going. Lunch is just a bit over ten dollars, with the drink being included in the listed prices. As for the offerings, my favorites include the buffalo wings, chicken fajitas, cabbage, and their to die for store baked chocolate chip cookies. The cookies are one of the best items here! A strange favorite of mine is the ambrosia salad. Where else do you get that stuff? I also recommend trying the mac and cheese if you are a fan of Luby’s mac and cheese. You know what I am talking about! They do offer steaks that are cooked on request by the grill, but be prepared to do a lot of chomping. Usually the cut it pretty bad. They also offer pizza, fried goodies, pot roast, tacos, chicken fried steak, and other familiar favorites. Much of their food does taste salty, but you can actually manage a semi-healthy meal here with their plentiful salad bar and cooked veggies as well as grilled chicken fajita breast and baked fish.. As with all buffets, come during the peak hours, preferably lunch, because I have seen food sit and not turn fast enough in the afternoons. Some of the patrons here can be downright rude, and there are often little kids running around, so you will have to deal with that crowd, but if you get lucky, you can find a nice quiet booth towards the back or sides.
