The folks at Monterrey are the best. They were so friendly and accommodating when our Kindergarten class dropped in for an impromptu lunch while on a walking field trip. The food was great and the hospitality was excellent. Too bad the teachers couldn’t order Margaritas while on duty.

I tend to write my reviews based on what they are, so if you’re looking for a true five star dining experience, keep on searching. But if you’re looking for fast, friendly service, inexpensive, plentiful and tasty food, then read on. They have margaritas in three sizes, and lots of flavors. Raspberry is my favorite. If you order the large, you probably need to share with a friend or prepare to sort for a while. The servers are fast, friendly and funny. They will spice food up for you if you request it. Chips and salsa brought immediately and they start with the spicier salsa and you can request mild if you need it. Wife loves their chicken nachos, and there’s a whole lot of it for the price. I like to try something new from time to time, but the tacos asada is one of my favorites. This is one of our favorite place to go and unwind on a Friday night after a long week.

The mission was lunch, and the objective was quickly. Not knowing Spartanburg, I was at the mercy of those who did, to fulfill such conditions. Monterrey’s name came up, and it was pretty quickly decided that that’s where we were going to go. I have to imagine you kind of have to know where Monterrey’s is before you go there, or it’s the kind of place you randomly stumble across, because it’s not necessarily viewable off the main streets of Spartanburg. And even from the outside, it’s kind of a nondescript building. The good thing is that the exterior isn’t really indicative on what it’s like on the inside, because the interior is slightly dim, but full of spacious booths, and the requisite large televisions showing sports channels which appeases a nerdy jock like me. Otherwise, there’s really not a lot for me to really blab about; Monterrey’s wasn’t bad at all, but it’s really not necessarily a dining experience that anyone who’s been to a well-operated Mexican restaurant hasn’t had before. Chips and salsa brought with the menus, a menu that has a litany of mix-and-match options and combos reduced to simply numbers, and nothing that really couldn’t be had at any other Mexican restaurant. Seriously, there will be a time when I want to call up three different Mexican restaurants, say I want to order a combo #4, and see what I end up with upon picking them all up. Due to such convoluted combining, they actually messed up on my order and brought me out something different than what I had ordered. I mean it was an honest mistake, I wasn’t upset, and they rectified it quickly, but I think errors like that can be avoided if they deviated from the number system. Overall, no real complaints, but nothing that makes them stand out from all the rest. Four people can eat comfortably for lunch for around $ 40, and I left with a sated appetite. But it was quick and convenient, as was the desired criteria, so overall, it’s a positive experience with Monterrey.

The new glitter sign is fairly amazing. This is what it is — cheap, Mexican eats. It hasn’t changed much at all since college — just the prices have creeped up a bit. Definitely not the best food you will ever have, and the carpeted floor concerns me, but its good and cheap for big groups. Our waiter was super fast and very funny, which was a bonus!

Very great service! The menu was a bit pricy for the taste of the food but we had our meal within 5 minutes of ordering when the restaurant was approaching it’s capacity.

Great service, quick and attentive waiters. Delicious salsa and good variety of meal choices. The only reason they get four stars is because some of the menu items aren’t clear as to what they are. Great place to eat though!
