Just got back from South Padre Island and did four days of lessons with SPI Kiteboarding.
I don’t know where to start it was so freaking good. From Wyatt and his team that helped us out and the amazing kite ranch location where they teach. To be able to stand in waist deep water during the lesson made it so easy to control the kite and water start. My first lesson was a jet ski assist with Wyatt. He rode next to me and fine tuned my posture. Within minutes of following his instruction I was riding up wind for the first time. The gear was new and in great shape. During the 4 days I kited everything from a 9m to 15m kite. Final day we kited in front of the ranch and we stayed upwind the whole time.
Kite Ranch has a awesome deck above the tide. Water is clear and warm. Sunsets are beautiful.
Place was uncrowded.
You gotta go check it out!

SPI Kiteboarding are good guys. They’re the only shop that can do lessons on the north flats. Jason and Lisa are the instructors now (Nov 20 120). Petra and [older guy] went over to Air Padre. Scott works the shop. Kenny checks the gates at the flats and rescues people on jet skis.
Go ahead and support them with business if you’re in the area for kiting.
