Awesome café! Used to live down the block from here and came here a lot. Quality coffee and espresso drinks, variety of snacks like granola bars and chips and Pop Tarts. It is also conveniently located by the 49 bus stop. Only downside is that it’s very small inside… you can only fit about 8 people inside comfortably. Nevertheless, it’s the only coffee shop in north Capitol Hill area and it’s a great one.

This is a rad little café! I love getting some morning joe here. The owner has a very cool story and sense of style in the shop.

Maybe I just came on an exceptionally bad morning but the place was overrun by really loud and rowdy high school students. The place isn’t conducive for hanging out and working — maybe just dropping in for a quick coffee. The barista was fine. I’m far from a coffee-snob but the coffee was actually absolutely terrible — burnt and overly bitter. I just needed a place to sit down and catch up on some emails on my laptop, and it turned out to be a total waste of time(and money). I didn’t get anything done aside from writing this review on my phone ;). Again, maybe just a bad day here, the other reviews seem good. Definitely not coming back though.

The good: * It is a coffee shop on North Capital Hill. You will not find another between here and north of the University bridge. Volunteer Park café is nearby, but can be crazy crowded and a bit of a hike east. * Interior is cute, actually fairly charming. * Lots of potential * Fine for a drink to go * Owner is friendly The bad: * Morning barista is not always friendly. In fact can be downright rude… * There are about 8 seats, however do not expect to be able to sit inside and have a conversation with a friend or to be able to create any sort of personal space or boundary. On the times I have been in here, all but once there are extremely loud regulars gabbing with the owner or an employee while they are working. You won’t be able to think or meet a friend and talk they are so loud. Really annoying. It feels a bit like you are in someone’s living room, like you are interrupting a conversation when you try to order or are seated, TBH.

I’ve become a regular at the Polar Café. The owner is absolutely wonderful to chit chat with, as well as the other people who work there. The coffee is not only good, but it’s also made efficiently. Another bonus is the cozy atmosphere and lovely décor. I enjoy getting my signature vanilla latte here every weekday. If you’re looking for a regular coffee place, I would highly suggest this place.

Love this friendly neighborhood gem where you’ll become a «regular» quickly. Gotten spoiled and have a hard time having an Americano or latte anywhere else. A daily habit.

Great coffee even if the name and owners have changed 3 times in 5 or so years… however one tip, one barista to another: if you’re not a morning person, maybe don’t be a barista?

I went on July 15th at 6:45 when they were to open. The were closed. I went later after 7:15 and they were still close. I peeked in the window and no one was there and there. The owner does not seem dependable.

Lovely little café off the beaten path. Barista corrected me very kindly when I mistakenly asked for a no foam cappuccino. Had decaf was not bitter

This is a great little neighborhood coffee shop, and really the only place to get a decent espresso on the north end of Capitol Hill(it’s in the former location of Dharma). The lovely baristas make consistently good coffee(Vita), and the pastries from a local bakery are great too. Aside from that, not a lot of frills in the small but cozy space. What also kind of sets it apart is the cool nautical and polar stuff on the walls. The owner is supposedly in the Coast Guard and stationed on the icebreaker that’s down in Antarctica now. They are helping rescue two Chinese and Russian ships that are stuck in the ice, so all my Russian and Chinese neighbors should head over there for their next latte! They don’t seem to have much of an internet presence, so I thought I’d help spread the word. Oh, and there is wifi there too!
